Chapter 1:
“The angels will fall. Angels will fall. Will fall. Fall” There was faint whispers going on through Jasmine’s mind. They got fainter and fainter with every word. She stood there alone at the edge of the world. Well more specifically at the edge of her world. Jasmine was an angel; she stared down only to see humans that continued on with their daily lives.
A faint sigh escaped from her lips. She wished that she could be a human and be ordinary. But no, instead she was stuck up there alone. No one knows how she got there; neither about her past. She was a misfit from the rest of the angels. It didn’t help that she had perfectly straight black hair. Most of the angels had blonde hair. What stood out even more were her eyes, they were the colour of the sun meaning that they were a golden yellow. She was wearing a simple white dress made out of silk. It was basic yet it suited her so well.
“Well if it isn’t my favourite angel,” Suho called out from behind her.
“Ha-ha very funny Suho. Your jokes are classic,” Jasmine retorted. Her brother Suho was always making fun of her with dry jokes.
“How about this then? What do angels and have in common?”
“Ewww why you’re so gross Suho... fine then what?
“They both have a 1 in 3,000,000,000 chance of becoming a human,” that one joke really pissed off Jasmine. Suho knew how much she had wanted to become a human. “Ahahaha,” all the while Suho couldn’t seem to stop laughing at his own joke.
Jasmine couldn’t take it anymore; he had really crossed the line this time. “Suho can you come here for a second I don’t feel well,” Jasmine bent down and wrapped her arms around her stomach. In that moment Suho stopped laughing and a concerned expression crossed his face.
He walked over and bent down next to her. “Are you okay?” he asked as he put a hand on her shoulder. In that moment Jasmine grabbed his arm and tossed him over his shoulder, since they were already at the edge of the clouds he was tossed off and began falling. Jasmine stood up and peeked over the edges; when he came back up he would surely be pissed at her. A few more minutes passed and Suho still hadn’t come back up yet. Where was he? What was taking him so long?
Jasmine had thrown him off the edge many times and he always came back up a few minutes later. She continued to stare down at the humans, seeing if she could locate her brother; but he was nowhere to be seen.
“SUHO!” she tried calling out. “Where are you?” No reply came and she became really worried. What if he had fallen? She would be in so much trouble; their father would murder her this time, literally.
Jasmine got up and began running back to her house. If she could get home and find her other brother and ask him for help before their dad came back; she would be safe. She passed many other houses each bigger than the last until she finally reached hers. The streets were quiet and there were no people walking around despite it still being day. Where were all the people?
Compared to the rest; size-wise hers was a mansion. There were around 20 windows visible from outside; and that was only the front of the house. She ran up the staircase only to bump into her youngest brother D.O. He may have been the youngest of all three but; the three siblings were only one year apart from each other. More surprisingly he also happened to be the brightest.
“Jasmine are you okay? You seem to be in a hurry.”
“D.O thank God I found you. I desperately need your help right now. You see I kinda did something, it depends on whether or not you see what I did as good or bad.”
“Well I’m sure that you couldn’t have done anything that bad. So what exactly was it that you did?”
“Umm, you see, I may have kinda pushed Suho over the edge . . . again,” Jasmine put an innocent look on her face and began fiddling with her hands.
“You did what! Dad will seriously kill you this time! No joke!” he explained. Plain fear crossed Jasmine’s face, this time she was truly afraid. If she didn’t get Suho back before her dad came home; she would be the one thrown off of the edge next.
Jasmine may have wanted to become a human but that didn’t mean that she wanted to fall and experience the agony of her wings detaching from her back; the mere thought itself made her cringe. The she gasped what if Suho’s wings had fallen off?
One small little joke could really cost her own wings. What had she done?
“D.O I’m gonna go down and see if I can find Suho. It’s the only choice I have left.” Worry clearly passed across D.O’s face.
“Jas no I’ll go. You’ve never been down there before and I have so-“
“You’ve been down there before?”
“Yes but that’s not the point. I’ll have a better chance at finding him,”
“No D.O you can’t if dad comes back you’ll have to be here to explain to him what happened.”
“You want me to tell him the truth?”
“No obviously not, improvise. He’ll believe you unlike me. Please D.O. Please?” Jasmine whined.
“Fine then. But if you’re not back by sundown I’ll tell dad the truth.”
“Yay!” Jasmine ran up and hugged D.O tightly. “You’re the best lil bro.”
“I know I am. “ He responded and Jasmine playfully punched him on the shoulder.
“See you later, I promise I’ll be back soon with Suho.” Jasmine went running off into the distance. This was her chance she would finally be able to see how the humans lived from up close. But there wouldn’t be much time to observe them; she needed to find Suho and fast. He could’ve fallen anywhere in the whole country.
As soon as Jasmine reached the edge she hesitated. Once she went down she refused to come back up alone. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly bent her knees and jumped off of the edge.
As she fell faster and faster the wind sliced past her making her skin tingle. She felt her wings appear behind her but something felt wrong. For some reason she could only feel one of her wings not both of them. Jasmine turned around and saw that one of her wings had caught fire. The feathers were slowly disintegrating and vanishing into thin air.
It surprised Jasmine as she hadn’t felt any pain. It was just as if it wasn’t there anymore. Another thing that Jasmine queried was ‘why hadn’t her other wing begun disintegrating?’ It was strange; usually they would both disintegrate until there was nothing left.
Had someone done something to one of her wings? However there wasn’t time to question that right now if Jasmine didn’t do something fast she would crash into a building. With all the power she could muster up she flapped the one wing she had and managed to head in the direction towards a lake. ‘Splash’ she made contact with the water and her body stung all over. In total she was left with one and a half wings.
Jasmine couldn’t gather the strength anymore to swim up to the surface and towards shore. She felt herself sinking deeper and deeper into the water. Just as Jasmine blanked out she remembered a pair of arms grabbing her and bringing her upwards.
