The Beast Within

Description

In an act of desperation stemmed from the devastating recession, the owner of Liu Jewelry (a family-owned business) makes a deal with the cold Jung Daehyun - one of the youngest entrepreneurs in South Korea who started off small and whose company is now slowly monopolizing smaller businesses with his ever growing clothing line. In exchange for a business partnership, Liu's younger daughter is to be courted by Jung, the courtship inevitably leading to marriage after a month. But there is more to Jung than just a handsome face and cold personality. He is infamous for his heartlessness, and rumors are spread around to every employee in his company through hushed whispers. A feared man and widespread name, Jung Daehyun has his own dark monsters clawing within him. Still, Amber Josephine Liu is not one to be taken lightly with her tough personality and strong sense of independence. But can she dispel the beast within Daehyun before it's too late? Or will their happily ever after become a happily never after?

Prologue

The moonlight cast shadows on her already dimly lit face as she reached out hopelessly towards the vision of her lover. She scrambled towards the image, only for her foot to be caught between the gnarled roots of aged trees. An anguished cry befell her lips as her lover slowly faded and slipped through her grasp and into her mind, where he dwelled and continued to haunt her. She had tried to bury him under new memories, but the memory of him incorrigibly took root in the deep recesses of her mind, giving her no rest from him. She fell to her knees, crying out into the dark forest, and her only reply was silence. Not even the animals dared come out, preferring the warm comfort of their respective homes. She clawed at her own face, leaving trails of blood where her fingernails dug into. The dark liquid mixed with her salty tears, leaving streaks of blood on her fair face. Her eyes were wild with need and desperation, her hair unruly from her nightly expedition.

She knelt and wept as she still attempted to anchor the image of her dead lover. His clear, playful laughter rang through her head like a beautiful melody, taunting her pitiful self. Once, her lips emitted the same joyous sound, her baritone voice harmonizing with his deep bass voice. But now, it was rare to detect even the slightest hint of a smile on the broken woman's face. The cheerful memories of laughter seemed eons ago, a memory that only time itself could reach. Now, smiles turned to tears as sobs replaced the laughter, and perhaps happiness is never to be found again.

I'm so sorry, you guys. I keep making new stories when my other ones desperately need to be updated. But this was too hard to resist and I must say there was a bit of peer pressure LOL. But yeah. I hope you guys enjoy this story. It's my first time writing something like this, so this should be really interesting. Once again, I hope you guys enjoy this story. And all the graphics/edits I use in this story are all made by me, which will explain why they look so crappy LOL. So, consider yourselves warned? Haha.
