(i have found him) whom my soul loves

Description

He was borne in the shadows and when he took his first step out of its womb, death walked with him. His eyes are bound to unsee the truth and his face is hidden beneath a brazen skull of ruin, masking the night’s star in his eyes and nobody shall know his face. He is cloaks in a veil of secrecy, wearing devastation like a wounded armor and his skin is painted in a cold and unforgiving tundra, making his touch a bitter frost on the bare skin. His weapon is a staff with two prongs protruding out on each side, the right is called Deliverance and the left is Damnation.

The mortals tremble at the notion of him, demons and monsters hold him in great reverence, and the gods in Olympus shy away from one who is so steeped in darkness.

His name is Hyukjae. He is the Lord of the Dead, the God-King of the Underworld, and the Reaper of the Sinful and he has fallen in love with Spring.

Foreword

The ground shakes and the sky rumbles and Donghae doesn’t have to be told twice to fall back. He quickly runs toward the border of Enna, the gated vines of Enna is a welcoming sign right now, where he’ll be save from the horror that is wrought by him leaving the confinement of Heechul’s domain but as he is nearly a third of the way there his legs give away when the ground is rip away from him and he lands full-body on the ground.

He tries to get up but the ground around him stirs and he hears a violent crack that made him turns around. Donghae’s eyes fly open when he sees several figure of impish shadows climb out of the crack made on the ground right behind him.

Black, bleak shadows that outline a vague shape made their way toward him and their bright red eyes are zeroed in on him, and Donghae is numb with fear. His legs refuse to move and his hands are pressed onto the ground, completely still, except for the slight twitch in his forefingers when every step the shadow-figures take get them closer to him.

Donghae’s blindingly reach a hand out to find a piece of rock, his eyes still on the shadow-figures rapidly approaching him and his legs gone dead still, when his fingers get in contact with one Donghae grabs hold of it and quickly throws it at the horde of shadow-figures coming toward him in hopeless desperation.

The piece of rock flies across the air and lands dead center of the horde, right at a shadow-figure head but as soon as the rock comes anywhere near it, the warped darkness that made its body separates like smoky cloud, and the rock passes through the shadow-figure as if it wasn’t there in the first place.

Donghae stares at it stunned silent and this is when his instinct to flee kicks into gear, overriding any fear that makes him weak and numb. Donghae gets up clumsily, his knee joints are lock and stiff but he tries to make another desperate run to confine of Enna’s border.

Big mistake.

His attempt to escape makes them more ardent to give chase and Donghae’s bare feet are not match for their vapid desire for Donghae and then--something grabs hold of one of his legs and pulls him down. He takes a stumble to the ground again and he could almost feel like his heart is falling out of his chest at this point.

The shadow-figures crawl up his legs and Donghae kicks and pushes them away, turning his whole body around to face the horde now completely on him. Their bony fingers wrap themselves around his ankles and wrists in an iron grip. He is caught and trapped, lying on the ground helplessly still as he could feel tiny rocks beneath him digs into his back almost painfully.

He hears the clicks and hisses from the shadow-figures as the familiar sound of footsteps approaching closer to him. Donghae’s heart starts to beat nervously against his chest as fear quickly takes hold of him again. He shouldn’t have left the protection of Heechul’s domain. Now, it’ll cost him.

Big, glaring horns that curl in on itself comes into his view first then he sees a skull adorning a man head, an obscure mask that hid the majority of his face, and his eyes are a sheer black screen.

Donghae blinks. Not human, he calmly notes in between bouts of his nerves spiking rapidly out of control. Another god, he could only assume but Donghae’s isolation in Enna makes it hard for him to recognize any brethren of his kind and Heechul had warned him that just because they are gods doesn’t mean they were any way kind or gentle.

“Treat all gods like wolves that are about to prey on a helpless rabbit,” Heechul would tell him and Donghae would unhelpfully point out that they are also gods and Heechul had narrowed his eyes and told him to quite frankly shut up and do his chores instead. Donghae had thought that was paranoia and overprotectiveness on Heechul’s part but now facing this unknown god that wears darkness like a second skin and exuding enough power to make the air around them crackles and vibrates violently.

Donghae is absolutely terrifies and he doesn’t even know what this person wants from him.

“I won’t hurt you,” the man says gently, low and grounded like the earth had been battered and worn out, and it sounds almost kind but shadow-figure’s circulation around his wrists and ankles tightens, and he is reminded that the harsh reality of his situation.

Donghae shakes his head and twists himself to break out of his bindings. “Please, let me go.”

He looks down at Donghae for a moment, searching for something that Donghae couldn’t decipher and then he leans down, till he’s kneeling on the ground. He reaches a hand out toward Donghae, and the open skin is so pale that it’s almost tinge with a blue hue like it hadn’t seen the light of day in couple of centuries.

“Everything will be alright,” he promises and Donghae’s mouth open to snap, no it isn’t, but the man’s fingers brush against Donghae’s forehead, a sharp icy cold that freezes him to the bones, and he shudders violently beneath the touch. But the fingers touch him with a gentleness that is normally reserve for some skittish animal and Donghae feels like one at this moment.

“Sleep,” the man orders, and hesitantly takes his fingers away.

Donghae’s body goes rigid and he feels tired and heavy, and the world seems to be caught in a drowsy haze. His breaths slow to a steady beat and Donghae could feel the tug of drowsiness that promises a welcome mercy from this madness, all he need to do his close his eyes and sleep--Donghae eyes fly open and he desperately fights against the sleep that threatens to take him under.

“It’s okay, Donghae, no harm will ever come to you as long as I'm here,” he hears the man say and Donghae wants to say, then who's going to save me from you? And doesn’t even have time to contemplate why the man even knew his name before his eyes obediently fall shut and he knew nothing more than that.
