Prologue

"You know I never got over you." I admitted silently, my legs tightly crossed, my hands grasping the coffee fearfully. He was sitting in front of me, that damned wedding ring on his finger. I kept eyeing it continuously even though I beckoned myself to stop. It was a dirty habit. His face lit up though, hearing those words. His brain may as well have swollen and exploded in front of me, his skull ripping itself apart breaking like china. I don't know why I had to tell him my feelings. It was stupid. I was a hefty, pregnant woman married to another soul and he was a man married to a typical, beautiful queen. I don't even know how we got to meeting each other for coffee. Neither do I understand the reason why I'm here.

"Really? That's great but it's too late now, you know." He smiled at me, moving forward with that familar look of interest and care, leaning over the table, getting closer to me, our feet touching. I nodded whilst gulping, putting the coffee cup towards my lips. But then his eyes flickered to my s. I raised my eyebrow and placed the mug to the table.

"I'm pregnant you dirty guy! I love another man!" I growled at this immature idiot. I didn't mean to give him the wrong idea but his reaction shocked me. He suddenly took a deep breath and his eyes fell to the ground. His body seemed to drop and slump against the chair. I remember thinking that I have never seen this man act like this. It was shocking, you know. Worrying. "What's wrong with you?" I suddenly asked him. His eyes stared at me suddenly, tearfully.

"Honestly, my wife passed away a year ago." He suddenly revealed, his eyes entwined with mine. I didn't know where to look so I continued staring at him, shocked and appalled. I felt guilty for thinking of his wife in a despising manner. He looked so dead all of a sudden. I noticed he was wearing old attire- his shirt was a dirty cream, his trousers were a little torn at the rims, his hair was a bird's nest. I don't know how I thought he looked as good as ever. He really didn't. There were bags under his eyes and he looked pretty miserable with his cracked lips and uneven skin complexion.

"I'm so sorry." I said after some awkward, uncomfortable silence. He nodded at me.

"Yeah. It's time I got home, I need to pick up my son." He suddenly shot at me- he had a son as well!?

"Oh, how old is he?" I asked with a smile on my  face, trying to lighten the atmosphere. I couldn't dwell on the sorrow in his life. And he dropped a bombshell on me.

"He's only nine months. I left him with my parents." He eyesmiled at me. I nodded and stood up at the same time he did. I remembered his parents; strict people who thought we were a good match, but it never happened. He fell in love with another girl and left me four years ago. I didn't hear from him and naturally I fell in love with my husband. It had been unfortunate but it was how life unfolded.

"I need to meet this little baby boy!" I tried to act excited even though I felt downhearted. His eyes were still dark and secretive, I didn't know why. He just all of a sudden looked down and depressed.

"Maybe one day. We'll meet up when we have spare time." He walked out the door, leaving money on the table, leaving me feeling confused at him and freaked out. Our conversation had been sweet and lovely earlier and it had become something so horrible to experience. He just completely changed right in front of me. I sighed and sat down to drink my decaf coffee.
