Silent Witness

Description

Eyes that have witnessed it all; ears that have heard it all; but a voice that wasn't heard held him back. He was a witness yet he couldn't testify. He was a silent witness and no one can ever hear his cries.

Foreword

On the 12th of January, year 1993, as the snow glistened in the wide stretch of land in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, a young woman in tears, both of pain and regret, was rushed to a hospital nearby. "H-Hurry!" She yelled, feeling that anytime, the life that formed inside of her, the baby that she's carrying might be welcomed to the world in a few hours. After hours of painful cries and a cry as a sign of life, the room was quiet once again. The mother was leaning to her side as tears trailed down her cheeks. The nurse entered with something wrapped up in a blue blanket and handed it over to the mother. "Congratulations, you gave birth to a baby boy." The nurse smiled at the mother and the mother snarled at her. "Take him.. He isn't my son.. Nor will he ever be.." She  rolled over to her side and left the baby in the nurse's arms. She wasn't sad because she gave birth to a boy but it was because she gave birth to a boy that was a result of an act she didn't even want. The lady in the bed, with her hands covering her eyes, wasn't happy nor proud of calling him her own. But the man who got her pregnant told her otherwise. "Let's keep him.. He wouldn't really harm us, right?" The mother then looked at the man in shock, not knowing how he knew where she was. "I told you, I have my eyes on you, Myeongsun-ssi.." A sly smirked appeared on the man's pale face, causing the woman to quiver in fear.

Months after giving birth, she managed to slip out of her house, unnoticed by the people guarding the place. Though she wasn't proud to call him her own, she wanted the best for this child. She thought of just giving him away, but it would end up harming her and her family's reputation. So she decided that it was best if she just left the baby somewhere, a place where she would never be able to see him again. She went to a park nearby, a scarf covering half of her face to somehow hide her identity. It was usually this time of the evening when there was only a few people roaming around the park. She looked around and noted that there was no one in sight and she placed the basket on a park bench, contemplating on where to leave him. She didn't want him in her life, but she also didn't want him to have a life worse than what she's living. "Goodbye.. my.. son."
