The Dying Silence
Description
It all started when Hyunseung came home to find a man, bloody and broken on his doorstep...
Foreword
The moment Hyunseung had rolled unceremoniously out of bed that morning ( exactly thirty-minutes later than he had originally planned), he knew that the day was going to be a bad one. Waking up late was something that would naturally cause him to be late for work (if there was a universe in which it wouldn’t, he thought, he would love to move there someday). That, in turn, lead him to getting quite the lecture from his boss, which only meant he was to be the laughing stock around his co-workers for the remainder of the day.
Needless to say, by the time it had reached noon, the thought of returning home and sleeping was more than just a little bit appealing to the brunette. The moment the clock struck four, he bolted from his office, not particularly caring if he left anything behind, making a beeline for the door. Within a minute, he had excited the building, and stepped out into the company parking lot. He was quite disappointed, however, to find that driving didn’t seem to be an option for him anymore.
As if matters couldn’t have been any more stressful, his car had been towed for some reason or another, leaving him to walk home in the dying summer heat.
There was nothing he wanted nothing more, Hyunseung decided as he trudged through the streets, his head hung low, than to sip at a steaming cup of tea, or maybe even coffee, curl up under on the couch and forget the world. And, he thought with a shrug, that was precisely what he intended on doing; once he managed to get home, that is.
Little did he know, though, that God, or whatever entity it was that people chose to believe in, had different plans for him.
As he turned the final corner onto his street, stumbling a little over an uneven bit of sidewalk, he lifted his head to stare at down the path to his house (there were only three on the street, what with it being a relatively remote part of town, and all the other lots never being bought, so it wasn’t as if it was a difficult task). He frowned, taking note of a dark heap at lying before his door.
Probably just someone’s dog, he thought with a shrug, shifting his bag of things higher on his shoulder as he did so, and continued to draw closer. When he got to the front door, the thing would probably get up and leave; and if it didn’t, he would surely make it.
But, as he soon came to realize with dread, it wasn’t some stray dog come to take a nap on the front steps. Rather, it was a body.
A human body.
