The Dead Poetess.

Description

Soojung is forced to go to a trip outside his country and to stay in a house full of strangers. What will happen when she finds out she's going to share her room with SHINee's Taemin?

Foreword

So yeah, this is my first fic ever, so please, if you comment, be sincere~

Months ago I had that dream where Taemin and I were sharing a room in Broadstairs, a little town I went to with my school, and I wanted to write about it so I never forget it. The fic isn't exactly what happened on my dream, but the sentence you'll find written like this has been extracted literally from it. I hope you don't find it too cheesy, hahaha.

I don't really ship Taestal even though I think they look cute together, but it's the only girl I had seen with Taemin when I wrote this (WGM hadn't started yet), so that's why I've wrote about this couple.

Have fun reading!

P.D.: I'm from Spain and my English isn't the best you'll ever read, so please, forgive me if i've made some mistakes TT. Finally, here's the fic!.

The Dead Poetess

The sky was grey and it was starting to rain when I arrived at Broadstairs. “Are you reading my thoughts, weather?” I joked internally.  I didn’t even know what I was doing there and the only thing I could think about was how much I hated my parents for forcing me to go to learn English at some lost town in England.

We were driven to our respective houses. Almost everyone in my class had come to the trip and everyone went to their houses in couples, but I had no friends there, so I was told that I was going to share a room with another student from Korea but from another school. “Sincerely, I’d rather be alone”, I thought.

I arrived at home and I introduced myself to the family. I was very surprised to see that they had a daughter who was the same age as me, Amber, with whom I connected at first sight. She showed me the whole house; all the walls were painted blue and everything was made of white wood, just like in a dollhouse. My bedroom wasn’t an exception; bunk bed with white worn paint, two closets, two nightstands and a mirror. It reminded me of my own bedroom. At least not everything was that bad.

I was unpacking when I realised Amber was still in my room.

- So, uh, do you… Do you want something? Am I supposed to pay you a tip?

Amber burst of laughing.

- No, no, nothing like that. I just wanted to talk to you for a while. How is it like living in Korea? I’ve always been interested in Asian culture.

From that moment on, we talked about everything that crossed our minds. Amber was an easy person to talk with; everything seemed very natural by her side.

After an hour or so talking, she asked me why I had come alone. I told her I didn’t really like people and then I remembered about the person I was going to share the room we were at with.

- Uhm, Amber, do you know anything from the student that’s going to stay here with me?

- I think it’s a boy and he’s Korean like you, but I don’t know anything else.

A BOY?! I couldn’t believe that! I thought we were going to be the same ! “I guess my school doesn’t know it or they would have never allowed this”, I thought.

I was even more nervous than ever to meet him. Amber couldn’t stop laughing at my reaction, I guess things like that are common in Europe.

And in that moment, we heard the bell. Amber looked at me and said she was going to show the house to the guy the same way she showed me.

I felt very nervous but thought the best thing I could do was to just say hi to him and then ignore him. “I’ll go to see Amber in her bedroom when he arrives so he can unpack and we won’t have an awkward silent moment”, I thought.

And suddenly, he arrived. The door opened shyly and he came in.

I thought I was having a heart attack when I saw Taemin from SHINee entering the bedroom. I had never been much into k-pop but of course, I knew him. He was 18 and about to graduate. I heard in school that he suffered from bullying in his school for being an idol, so I guessed that was the reason why he was alone too and sharing a room with me.

By the smile on his face, I guess my face showed my surprise.

- Oh, ah, hi… My name’s Jung Soojung, I’m 17, glad to meet you.

I didn’t even know what I was doing; I couldn’t think properly and I just hoped what I said wasn’t as stupid as it sounded.

- Hi, I’m Lee Taemin and I’m 18. Hope we can spend our days together calmly and become friends. – He said, with his smile still on his face.

My face went all red and I couldn’t help but run outside the dorm to see Amber. I told her Taemin was a famous idol in Korea so I felt very nervous beside him. She didn’t believe me until I showed her his videos on YouTube. She was really shocked but I told her to act as if she didn’t know it. Of course, she didn’t listen to me, and during the dinner, she started asking Taemin about his job.  He looked very awkward and I didn’t know if it was because his English wasn’t as good as Amber expected or because he didn’t want to be treated like an idol during his holidays. Also, I thought very guilty because I had been the one who told Amber about Taemin’s popularity in our country. I was starting to feel awkward too, so I went to my- our bedroom before he finished eating.

I was already sleeping when he entered the room.

Next day I woke up before him and left the house to my way to the academy where we both were going to study while we were staying at Broadstairs. But, before leaving, I couldn’t help but stretch my neck to look at him sleeping. No make-up, a messy hair, a sleepy face and a smile on it. He looked like an Angel. I had never realized it, but he was beautiful.

And in that moment, I felt butterflies flying in my stomach and considering the heat of my cheeks, I probably blushed. What was that? “He’s just a boy sleeping, Soojung.” I thought to myself.

The classes were a bit boring and my classroom mates there were as stupid as my classroom mates from Korea; just how I expected.

I finally got home at 5:00 pm, so I had an hour before dinner time, and I decided to read for a while.

I hadn’t thought about Taemin during the day, to be honest, but when he entered the room and found me reading Dead Poets Society in our bedroom, I could only think about how sweet he looked that morning and how it felt seeing him in such a human condition.

- Dead Poets Society? Wasn’t this a film?

I laughed.

- Well, after the film, someone wrote a book. – I said.

-Oh, I see. Sorry, it’s been years since the last time I was able to read a book for pleasure. I don’t have lot of spare time.

“Uhmmm” was all I said. Then, to my surprise, he sat beside me and started looking at what I was reading.  I couldn’t help but look at him, and then, our eyes met. We were so close…

- You’ve blushed. –He said.

-  Uhmmm… - I said again.

He smiled and a minute later I felt the weight of his head falling on my shoulder.

I spent the whole next day thinking about that. He woke up when Amber went to our dorm to tell us to go to have dinner and he seemed very awkward, and I thought maybe he was ashamed of falling asleep in a situation like that. I decided not to talk to him for the rest of the day in case he was angry with me, and he didn’t seem to miss me, to be honest.

That night I dreamt of Taemin telling me how much he hated me and how rude I was. When I woke up, I felt horrible and couldn’t think of anything but Taemin; maybe he thought I hadn’t talk to him because I was angry, or even worse, he was angry with me.

I tried to figure out how could that be possible, but everything seemed too ridiculous. I tried to focus on my classes and just let the day pass by. I was definitely going to talk to him that afternoon.

I arrived at home and Taemin wasn’t there, so I went to ask Amber. She told me she didn’t know and that he was probably just walking on the beach or something. Then, I told her everything that happened the past days and how nervous I felt every time I saw him and he looked at me in return.

- That’s probably because he’s very famous in your country, right?

- I don’t know, Amber…

- So… It’s not that it bothers me, but why are you both in my bed?

I think I forgot to tell you we were in Taemin’s bed, which was the high bed of our bunk bed. Oooops.

- Sorry!- Amber shouted while she jumped to the floor. – See you at dinner, take care of Soojung!

Then, she left and closed the door. I was still sitting on his bed.

- May I help you getting off?

He said gently, while raising his hand to mine. I took it, it was warm.

When I got on my foot again, our eyes found each other again, and something magical happened. Just like a drop of oil burns instantaneously when fire approaches it, I felt something inside of me telling me Taemin and I were meant for each other, no matter how cheesy it sounds. There was something between he and me, some kind of electricity that we couldn’t deny anymore.

I think we both knew it from the beginning, we just didn’t want to accept it.

He put his hand in my cheek and closed his eyes.

- Soojung… -He sighed. He opened his eyes again and I could see the sadness in his eyes.

- What’s wrong?

- When are you leaving? – He asked, before answering my question.

- In three days… I don’t want to leave you, Taemin.

- Don’t be sad, Soojung. Anyway, how much could our love had last?

- A lifetime.

I knew he was talking about the distance and his work, but it just pop out of my mouth. We had just met and I already knew so much about us… About who we were and who we were going to be, together, and how we were going to be able to overcome anything, together.

He kissed me and we fell on my bed. The touch of his lips on my lips and my skin made me lose my mind, and I swear that was the best night of my life. Lost in our blankets, just before I fell asleep, Taemin whispered something in my ear:

- I love you, Soojung. And I always will.

As I’ve said, that was the best night of my life.

On the next morning, I woke up alone.

I found a note behind my pillow that said:

“Dear Soojung;

I’m really sorry for leaving like this. I never meant to hurt you, but it’s better this way, believe me. I don’t think you have an idea of how much I want to be with you, know every little thing about you and walk with you on the beach with our fingers interlocked, and fall asleep every night kissing you. But some years ago I did a choice I can’t undo; I’m not like any boy, you already know that. You won’t be happy by my side, and I couldn’t stand seeing you crying even once.

I hope you’ll find love again. I sure won’t.

Be happy, Soojung, you’re special and you deserve it. I knew it since our first sight. I’m sure you won’t ever tell any of this in Korea, but please, don’t try to follow me. When you read this, I will probably already be hundreds of miles away from you.

I will find a way to let you know how much I love you again, Soojung. Just don’t forget it.

                                                                                                                     Taemin.”

I can’t remember anything else from Broadstairs or anything I did the first couple of weeks when I came back to Korea. I just felt dead inside.

One of those days I was sitting next to my mom while she was watching the TV, with my sight lost somewhere on my wall, when he appeared. I was so shocked I couldn’t even move; for the first time on months, I felt something beside pain.

“–So, you’re now going to sing one of your songs, even though it’s not the one you’re promoting right now, right?

- Yeah, Taemin has been singing this song lately and I think he wants to send a special message to someone with that song. –Said Onew, SHINee’s leader.

-That’s right. I’d like to thank my Dead Poetess for breathing. For existing, for finding me, for making me feel alive, for being part of the best night of my life. Thank you, my Dead Poetess. I will never forget you. This song is called Y.O.U.

And in that moment, I knew our connection could never be broken.

- Thank you, Taemin. –I whispered.- Thank you.
