March 13th.

Seoul, Korea.

I stepped out of the airport, breathing in the familiar yet unfamiliar air. I had only been here once the previous year, for a solid three months, to get used to the new city — not to mention, the new country — and familiarise myself with the area; also getting a taste of my job while I was at it.

I was born in Daegu, Korea but moved over to Australia when I was only one year old with my two parents and my two older brothers. Despite being brought up in a Western society, I was still taught the traditions of Korea, the language and the mannerisms that came along with the culture. And now I was back to teach English in one of the district schoold in Seoul.

I had spent four years in university studying primary education — which apparently was what the Korean government needed: More people who could speak both Korean and English fluently and I guess I just happened to fall under that category. Not to mention, I was a full blooded Korean which gave me even more flavour.

Here I was, back on homeland, twenty one years old and by myself; my whole immediate family back in Australia. I was ready to create something new for myself, to explore the world and experience things I couldn't in one place.

Hailing a taxi, I told the driver the address to the apartment I had rented from my mother's high school friend who had a spare place to stay. From the airport, it was only a fifteen minutes' drive, but even then I was bouncing in the leather seat, really excited to arrive. I couldn't wait to turn it into my own sanctuary — fairy lights, surrounding sound speakers through the whole house, everything that would make it mine. I was looking forward to it.

Little did I know, soon there would be something extra in my sanctuary. . . Another person who I grew to love; a person who I fell in love with — he became my other half.
