Special Birthday Present

Special Birthday Present

You plopped down onto your couch, exhausted. All day you had been busy celebrating your birthday. First with your family and then you spent the rest of the day with your friends and boyfriend. Now all you wanted to do was spend the rest of the night at home with your boyfriend privately without the invasion of your friends or anyone else.

A yawn escaped your opened mouth, eyes closing as you do so, and you covered your mouth with your hand. With your eyes still closed, you reached over to the spot next to you to grab onto Jinhong’s hand only to find the spot empty. One eye peeked opened as you looked to see that he wasn’t there. Your other eye opened and your eyebrow rose in confusion. You had thought he sat down along with you but apparently not.

“Jinhong?” You called out in the middle of trying to stand up.

“Hold on, I’ll be right there!”

You listened to him and sat back down onto the couch. And in a few minutes, he entered the living room and sat down next to you. In his hands he held a gift bad. Jinhong handed it to you.

“For you. Happy birthday, noona,” he grinned. You couldn’t help but smile back.

You set the bag onto your lap and you pulled out the card that was sticking out of the bag. Immediately, you could tell it was a homemade card. It was made out of yellow construction paper that was folded in half. On the front was “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written in English followed by your name. Beneath it was a poorly drawn birthday cake with a lot of candles and you assumed he put your age number as how many candles. At the bottom of the card, it read “I love you.” You giggled at it.

“I feel like this is something a little kid would make,” you laughed while turning to look at Jinhong. He pouted at you and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Well, excuse me that I’m not an artist. I thought it would be more memorable if I made the card myself.”

                “I still love it.”

You opened the card and inside were lyrics. As you read through them, you couldn’t help but feel touched. You were speechless by the time you finished reading them.

“Jinhong…” was all you managed to say. He lightly laughed, probably embarrassed.

“I had Aoora hyung help me write that. It’s what I truly feel about you…”

                “Thank you. I love it.”

Jinhong plucked the card from your hands and urged you to open the actual gift. There were faint pink tints to his cheeks.

You tugged at the tissue paper and hidden in it was a small box. You took it out and opened it. There was nothing inside. You were about to ask why it was empty but when you moved your head Jinhong had moved closer to you and his lips met with yours in a sweet, tender kiss. Your eyes closed at the action and you kissed him back. His was the best present you had gotten all day.
