The Adventures of SHINee

The five were out at the park after begging their parents many times to let them go. Even though the park was only across the street from their houses, their parents were very strict in letting them leave home without supervision. They begged and begged while crying their little eyes out thus leaving their guardians with no choice but to let them go. They anxiously looked on at their sons’ backs as they crossed the street to the field of unknown beyond. With sons like those… who wouldn’t?

“I call slide first!” Kibum shouted racing towards said slide. He climbed the ladder quickly and sat at the top. The rest looked up at him in envy.

“But I wanted to!” Onew called out pouting. His eyes started to tear up so Kibum gave in and let the older one slide down with him. Onew’s eyes brightened at the suggestion. He hurried up and sat behind him spreading his legs to fit snuggly behind his dongseng. “Let’s go!” Onew pointed towards the sky before they quickly slid down the three meter slope.

Taemin tapped at Minho’s shoulder. He looked up at him with his puppy-like eyes. “Want to go together?” Minho asked holding the younger’s hand. The two headed up the ladder, Taemin in front of Minho. Minho made sure to hold onto Taemin tightly before sliding down together.

“Everyone’s always together like that…” Jonghyun huffed stomping off to the playground. He sat down on one of the oddly shaped ladders leading up to the high platforms.

“Jonghyun!” Kikwang exclaimed placing a hand on the now startled boy before him. “You’re it!” When Jonghyun turned around to face him, Kikwang stuck his tongue out at him before skipping off.

“Hey!” Jonghyun shouted joining the other in running up then down the stairs, then climbing the ladders, sliding down the pole, then running back up the stairs and so on.

Taemin and Minho decided to take a break at a bench beside the play set. Minho pulled out a bag of crackers from his pocket and held them out in front of the maknae. Taemin took it happily, opened it and proceeded to munching on the salty snack. He stopped midway and stuck the bag out at his hyung.

“Eat up.” Minho told him smiling. Taemin only nodded happily before continuing to eat up the food. Eventually there were only a few crackers left leaving Taemin to hesitate whether he should eat them now or later. While he thought deeply about his decision, Jonghyun came running by surprising the maknae. He lost his grip on the plastic bag and it fell to the floor spilling its contents. “Taemin…?” Minho called out.

The maknae only looked down at the bag, tears building up in his eyes. “It’s okay, Taemin!” Tears started to stream down his big rosy cheeks. “Really, it is!” Then the youngling started to sob out loud leaving Minho in panic mode. “Taemin! I’ll get you more crackers later! Stop crying!” Still, Taemin didn’t listen because the one thing he hated most was when his afternoon snack was ruined. “Jonghyun-hyung…” Minho glared at the completely carefree boy running across the field.

Onew came over with Kibum tailing behind him curiously. “What happened, Taemin-ah?” The eldest asked rubbing his maknae’s back. Taemin only pointed down to his spoiled snack. “Aw, Taemin-ah, it’s okay! You’ll get to eat dinner later! And after that, maybe your mom will give you more crackers!”

“Really…?” Taemin said looking up at his hyung from over his hand. He was rubbing away the tears from his eyes. “Okay.” A big smile stretched across his face now. Minho only looked on in disbelief.

“So you listen to Onew-hyung but not me?” Taemin’s eyes started to brim with tears again at his hyung’s blunt and mean question. “Ah, no, I’m sorry Taemin-ah! I didn’t mean it. It’s okay. Onew’s nice.” Minho glared at his hyung from behind Taemin so as not to frighten the little boy anymore.

“Ki… kwang… stop… running…” Jonghyun collapsed on the floor in front of them panting heavily. “Ki… kwang!” His head circled many times, he looked lost and confused yet his friends weren’t stirred.

“This is what you get for not being fit, hyung.” Minho scolded him. He pulled out a small water bottle from his large outside pant pocket and gave it to the tired hyung.

“Th… anks…” Jonghyun mumbled before taking large gulps of the refreshing liquid. “So much better…” He drank half the bottle before returning it to its appalled owner. Just then, Kikwang came out of nowhere again and tapped Onew on the shoulder.

“Now you’re it!” He shouted before running off again laughing evilly. Just as Onew was about to get into a full spring, he tripped on a rock and came crashing down to the ground.

“Onew… are you okay…?” Kibum asked casually. “That’s the fourth time you fell today.” He held out his hand to the fallen boy with his thumb folded.

“I’m good!” Onew replied reassuring him before chasing the trouble-making child that was already at the other end of the park.

“Want to go play on the jungle gym?” Minho asked his dongseng who was looking on at the tag scene going on before him. Taemin gave a slight nod though his attention was still focused on his oldest hyung across the park. Minho waited a few seconds to see if the maknae was going to get up himself, but since he wasn’t, he decided to drag him to the play set. The two played a small game of ‘tag’ themselves on the jungle gym. Minho was it, but seeing as how Taemin was so much younger than him, he let his adorable maknae believe that he was too fast for his hyung. “Taemin! You’re so fast, I can’t catch you!” Kibum and Jonghyun watched on in disgust.

“Minho’s so weird…” Jonghyun muttered pulling out a NintendoDS from his pocket. He flipped open the top and the power.

“What are you playing?” Kibum asked shifting himself closer to his gaming friend.

“Cooking Mama 3.” He replied eyes still fixed on the screen. He pulled the stylus out of the handheld and started to tap it on the screen.

“Cooking?” Kibum questioned eyes firing up at his strength. “I’m awesome at cooking! Mom tells me that I make the bestest sandwiches she’s ever tasted!” Kibum swiftly took the console from Jonghyun’s hands and tapped down on the burger recipe. After a few completely concentrated minutes, Kibum finished all the steps. He looked down at the screen confidently and held out his result to his waiting friend. Jonghyun only burst out laughing. “What?” Kibum was genuinely confused. He took another look at the screen. “I don’t get it. This is gold! Gold is good right? I learned that from the Olympics. And look at her face! She’s amazed!”

“Um, Kibum… that’s a fail… you got 0 points… And plus, that’s like brown or something…” Jonghyun said between chuckles. After taking a closer look at the handheld he noticed the big 0 points on the screen. “Wow, Kibum. You’re so bad!”

“But mom…” Kibum looked down to the ground in defeat.

“By the way, what types of sandwiches do you make your mom anyways?” Jonghyun questioned.

“I make her cheese and ice cream sandwiches… I put in ketchup and lettuce and then put some cheese then put ice cream… She’s always said that she likes it… Then again she never eats it in front of me…” Kibum explained his mood now dampened by his failure.

“Uh… huh…” Jonghyun mumbled bursting into laughter once again.

Since the group was getting tired and the sun was starting to set, they decided to call it a day. On their way home, Kibum continued to play through the different recipes only to continuously get a big fat 0 for his result. Jonghyun watched his dongseng struggle with his game excitedly. Minho had to piggyback Taemin home since he had fallen asleep while he hid in the slide for when they switched to playing Hide and Seek. Like that, they ended a fun play date together.

Jonghyun was just about to get snug in his bed when his eyes shot open. He jerked up and rushed to the window. “What about Onew-hyung?! We forgot about him!” With his nose pressed against the glass, his eyes wandered around the park. Sure enough there he was now just dragging his feet along to catch the still energetic Kikwang. “I guess… I’ll call his mom…” He dialed in her number and waited for a response. Sure enough there it was. He had to hold the phone a few feet away from his ear so as not to go deaf. “Yes, yes Mrs. Lee… yes… he’s fine. He’s across the street… yes… I’m very sorry about that… yes… he’s still playing with a classmate… no… yes… okay… It’s alright… yeah… bye…” And so that completed his calm conversation with Onew’s overexcited mother. Why calm? That was the sixth time that he’s had to call Onew’s mother due to his idiocy in the last month.

“Ki……. k-k-…. kwang!” Onew said tiredly. He eventually gave up and passed out on the grass. Kikwang continued his gallop around the park still laughing with childish glee.
