The Legend
The first king descended from heaven and claimed this land as his own. He named the kingdom “Infinite” because, in it, he saw infinite possibilities. Under the first king, the kingdom of Infinite thrived. The people were rich in food, money, and magic. One day, the king came across the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He took the woman as his wife and fashioned an enchanted ring for her. The ring could not be lost; if it was ever stolen or misplaced or if she simply removed it for a short while, the ring would eventually find itself back on her finger. In this way, the king claimed her as his and the ring was a constant reminder for the new queen and for all the people of the kingdom. They lived together happily for many years and the queen gave birth to two sons.
As the years went on, the king grew tired of his queen’s greed and selfishness. As his sons grew up, they became more and more like their mother. He began to realize that beauty is not everything. He had thought he loved his queen because she was beautiful, but that is not all there is to love. The king crafted a second enchanted object. This time he created a mirror that would enable him to gaze into it and view the face of the woman who he could love with everything he was and who would love him the same way in return. Gazing into the finished mirror he saw the face of a woman that was nowhere near as beautiful as his wife, but he was drawn to her all the same. He immediately left the castle in secret to find the woman.
After years of searching, he found her on a mountain deep in the forest. She lived in a small house all alone. He entered the house to find her grieving for her father who had recently passed away leaving her all alone. The king comforted her. He stayed with her for years falling deeper and deeper in love. They had a son together and he grew healthy and strong. Away in the forest, they were cut off from the rest of the kingdom. But the king eventually became aware of how horrible the queen was treating his people without him there to rule. Realizing he had neglected his people for too long, he left his love and his young son promising that he would return one day. He left them with only the enchanted mirror so his love could gaze upon his face every day and not forget him.
He returned to his kingdom to find his people poor and staving. Magic meant nothing to the people anymore because it did not put food on the table nor pay the heavy taxes the queen had implemented. For the horrible deeds the queen had done, the king threw both her and their sons out of the castle. He set about making changes and bettering the lives of his people. But the magic never returned. It stayed hidden and only a few people were gifted with the ability to use it. The king could have restored it, but without his love, he did not have the heart. As soon as he had righted all the wrong the previous queen had done, the king sent for his love in the hope that she and their son would join him at the castle. But she was nowhere to be found. She had passed away shortly after he left and their son had disappeared.
The king, brokenhearted, abandoned the kingdom of Infinite and its people and returned to heaven to be with his love. But before he left, he crafted one last enchanted object. He created a majestic sword befit a king. This was a sword of pure gold that would neither dull nor rust. And it could only be lifted by one with pure intentions. He left the sword on the tallest peak of the tallest mountain and told the people of Infinite that whoever could lift the sword would be the next true ruler of heaven.
To this day, no one who has searched for the sword has been able to lift it. Eventually, the land was split into several kingdoms and ruled by greedy men. The people still await the day that a single leader, in possession of all three enchanted objects, will rise and unite the kingdoms once again into the Kingdom of Infinite.
