Confession

Confession

It was a fine day, the 31st of July, actually. There were a number of people in a café, setting up what seemed to be party streamers and balloons, accompanied with various other party decorations. What for, you ask? It was the birthday of one of their best friends. It was also the day that the eldest of the group was going to confess. Five long years of knowing the younger male, and he finally managed to gather his courage to do it.

There were two identical twins in the café as well, trying their best not to piss the hell out of each other while they prepared for the surprise party that they were holding for their best friend, the only one younger than them in the entire group. “Kwangmin-ah, you don’t put the streamers there, you idiot!” the elder of the two shouted exasperatedly. Kwangmin looked up at his hyung in annoyance, already holding the streamers where he had wanted to put them – at the corner of the wall.

“Jo Youngmin, shut up and help me,” Kwangmin ordered. He didn’t need his hyung to shout at him any more than he already did usually. Also, it was their maknae’s birthday. How could he argue with his twin brother over something so petty on such a special day? It was the last birthday celebration of the year that the group would have, since everyone else’s birthdays had passed over a month ago. Kwangmin was quite close to the youngest; hence he wanted the party to be perfect.

“Put the damn streamers up there, ,” Youngmin instructed, pointing at where he was referring to. Kwangmin rolled his eyes and got off the ladder, moving it over to where his twin was pointing at and holding the streamers there.

“Is this fine?” he asked. Youngmin thought about it and nodded, leaving Kwangmin alone to fix the streamers while he went to blow up more balloons. By that, I meant blow the balloons, not blow them up like a bomb would. That’s crazy.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen were two other friends. They were busy working on the cake for their dearest maknae, his favourite in fact. Chocolate was the flavour, and chocolate lava was the name of the delicious cake. There inevitably came a time when people baking would get flour on each other, and thus start a flour war. The two were no exception.

Within seconds of getting flour on his face, the younger of the two turned around to fling some of the white powder on his friend’s, or boyfriend if you would, face. He shrieked when the entire bowl of flour was lifted off the table by the elder, running off to hide on the other side of the table. The elder sported an evil grin as he grabbed an entire handful of flour in his hand.

“Jeongmin-ah, come here,” the elder called out. Said flower boy Jeongmin shuddered at the overly sweet tone that his boyfriend was using, knowing that it was clearly a ploy to get flour on his face. He was not going to get more flour on his pretty face. Nuh-uh.

“Keep wishing, Hyunseong, because I’m never giving in!” Jeongmin exclaimed, yelping as the handful of flour made its way towards him. Some of it got onto his cheek, some onto his apron, but the majority hit his hair. That’s when Jeongmin officially declared war.

Jeongmin snatched the nearest thing within reach, and that happened to be an egg. Without even thinking, he threw the egg at Hyunseong’s apron. The egg cracked and the egg yolk starting to trail its way down the apron, making Hyunseong grimace and narrow his eyes at Jeongmin. Then, he flicked another handful of flour at Jeongmin who was still across the long table.

“Yah!” Jeongmin yelled, getting some cocoa powder into a bowl and aiming it at Hyunseong’s face, smirking victoriously when Hyunseong sneezed after the cocoa powder got into his nose. “Beat that, baby,” Jeongmin teased. Hyunseong sighed and got ready to hurl more flour at Jeongmin, stopping in his tracks when something liquid splashed onto his apron and face. He looked at the white liquid and glared at Jeongmin.

“Lee Jeongmin, just because you’re my boyfriend…” Hyunseong lost his train of thought when the door to the kitchen opened and the eldest in the group entered. Hyunseong and Jeongmin shared a horrified look before Hyunseong coughed awkwardly. “It doesn’t mean that you can laugh when I spill milk on myself!” Hyunseong shouted, turning to look at his hyung sheepishly. “Hi Donghyun hyung. What brings you to the kitchen?” Hyunseong asked, hoping to change the topic.

Sadly, Donghyun was smarter than that and he groaned.

“Can somebody tell me what the hell happened in here?”

--------------------

It took Jeongmin and Hyunseong approximately twenty minutes to clean the area up. In that time, Kwangmin and Youngmin had finished putting up the remainder of the decorations and were beginning to set the table with the food that Hyunseong and Jeongmin cooked. The chocolate lava cake was the last thing on their to-cook list since they needed the chocolate to be warm enough to remain as a liquid.

Jeongmin and Hyunseong had started to actually bake the cake after being told off by Donghyun. They had also been flicked on the forehead once each because they were too playful and weren’t focusing on the task at hand, which was to bake. They sulked while cleaning but got down to work as soon as the kitchen looked remotely clean.

As soon as the clock struck 3pm, Donghyun put all the party decorations down and grabbed his phone and wallet, announcing to the others that he would be off to fetch the birthday boy, Minwoo, and warning them not to play around anymore. They simply didn’t have the time to do something as childish as that because they needed to make sure that everything was perfect.

Donghyun sighed inwardly as he exited the store, worrying about what the other four would do to mess the place up. He didn’t want Minwoo’s birthday party to be any less than perfect. He’d been in love with the younger male for five years now, and he finally grew some balls and decided to ask him out. He had the entire scenario planned out in his head. The only problem left was: would things actually go according to plan?

Knowing those four, the entire plan will probably go down the drain, Donghyun thought. He had spent a whole four months preparing Minwoo’s birthday, always mentally going through the list of what the youngest wanted. Minwoo had quite a number of things on his wish list, so Donghyun really had to pick the perfect present. In the end though, he ended up getting something that wasn’t even on said wish list. It was as if he’d known that the item was created for Minwoo, the moment he laid eyes on it. By a miraculous of luck, Donghyun had gotten his perfect present.

Minwoo’s school wasn’t too far from the café. In fact, it was only a fifteen minute walk. The five had already graduated from school, even though the twins were born in the same year as Minwoo. They’d gotten a head start in their education, which was good for them. Donghyun, being a whole six years older than the youngest three, had opened the café and the five were currently working there. Donghyun would fetch Minwoo from school daily and they would head to the café together. Minwoo would do his homework and help out in the café, since it was convenient for him to ask the others for help on his work.

Donghyun didn’t even realise when he’d made it to the school. He was early, as usual. Minwoo’s lessons ended at 3.30pm nearly daily, with the exception of Thursdays. It was only 3.20pm, giving Donghyun ample time to either rehearse his confession, or freak out about it. Even though he’d planned the perfect scenario to confess, Donghyun had a feeling that he’d just wing it.

There was only one issue bugging Donghyun. Would Minwoo’s parents accept their relationship? He knew very well that they weren’t homophobic, but he was six years older than Minwoo. That was quite the , and to be honest he didn’t think that he would actually accept their relationship, if put into his parents’ shoes.

Donghyun would have freaked out more, but he heard the school bell ring, signalling the dismissal of the students. Immediately, Donghyun froze up and he pretended to be using his phone, waiting until a familiar soft tap on his shoulder was felt.

--------------------

Minwoo groaned as he listened to his teacher drone on and on about some boring Calculus stuff that he already learnt. He was a little surprised when another small note made its way to his table and he mouthed a ‘thanks’ at his classmate, Changhyun. He opened the note up to read the birthday message that was written on it, a small smile gracing his lips as he folded the note neatly and kept it in his file.

So far, almost all of his classmates had wished him a happy birthday. Minwoo couldn’t help but feel a slight tinge of disappointment when none of his close friends had even bothered to text him. It was as if they had completely forgotten about his existence and Minwoo hated the feeling. What was worse was that the five others had never failed to wish him a happy birthday the moment the clock struck midnight, be it by call, text, or in person.

Hyungs, did you forget my birthday? Minwoo questioned no one in particular, merely thinking to himself. Minwoo was sulking and he knew it as well as his seatmate, Junghwan, otherwise known as Sandeul by everyone in class. Sandeul hadn’t wanted to disturb Minwoo, knowing that the latter was deep in thought, but their Calculus teacher was stalking towards them and she didn’t look too pleased. Hence, Sandeul hit Minwoo on the arm a couple times to bring him back to reality.

“What?” Minwoo asked, a hint of annoyance in his voice. Sandeul wasn’t surprised by the tone used by Minwoo, since he was quite used to it by then. He would always have to bring Minwoo back to reality because Minwoo tended to be absorbed in his thoughts too much too often.

Instead, Sandeul glanced at the approaching teacher and Minwoo had to hold back a groan because this scene had happened one too many times. Ms. Kwon would walk up to his table, ask him why he was spacing out again, and make him solve one of the many annoying calculus problems that she had written down on the board.

As predicted, Ms. Kwon stopped in front of Minwoo’s desk and tapped her foot impatiently. “And Mr. No, may I ask why you always space out?” she asked. Minwoo puffed his cheeks up, not even bothering to make an excuse for himself because he never did.

Minwoo merely stood up and automatically made his way to the board, lazily scrawling the answer to the calculus problem on the board before returning to his seat. When Ms. Kwon made no move to get back to teaching, Minwoo raised a curious brow at his teacher.

“BoA noona, aren’t you intending to go back?” Minwoo questioned, purposely using her name, just like most other students in the class. She was only nine years older than them, so it wasn’t that big of a problem calling her by her first name.

BoA narrowed her eyes at Minwoo and sighed. “Minwoo-ah, I know you’re smart but that doesn’t mean that you have the right to just zone out all the time,” she chided, sighing once more before heading back over to the front of the classroom.

Minwoo started to doodle on his notebook, for some reason writing the name ‘Kim Donghyun’ over and over again. It was another ten minutes of doodling before the long awaited school bell sounded, signalling the dismissal of the students. Minwoo was so eager to see Donghyun that he literally sprang out of his seat and ran out the classroom right after they thanked BoA.

“Minwoo-ah, maybe he’ll tell you today!” Sandeul shouted.

Minwoo paused and looked back at Sandeul, a small smile appearing on his face.

“I sure hope so!”

With that, Minwoo dashed all the way to the gate, thanking the heavens for his good stamina. He grinned as he caught sight of a familiar silhouette and slowed down before tapping Donghyun on the shoulder.

---------------------

“Donghyun hyung!” Minwoo chirped when Donghyun slid his phone back in his pocket before turning to smile at Minwoo. Donghyun took Minwoo’s backpack from him as usual and slung it over his shoulder, not wanting Minwoo to carry the heavy bag.

“So how was school?” Donghyun asked. Minwoo blinked dumbly at Donghyun, wondering what the heck was wrong with the elder male. Does he really not remember…? Minwoo felt a pang hit his chest and he looked down dejectedly.

“Hyung… you don’t remember anything?” he asked in a small voice. Donghyun frowned at the sudden change of topic and the change in Minwoo’s tone of voice. Merely a minute ago he had been so hyper and suddenly, it was as if the life was out of him. Donghyun knew why, of course. He just didn’t like it.

“Am I supposed to remember anything…?” Donghyun asked, feigning forgetfulness. Minwoo felt tears burn and sting his eyes and he forced himself not to cry. He just couldn’t believe that Donghyun, the one who was supposed to care most, couldn’t remember that it was his birthday.

“It’s nothing, hyung.”

The rest of the walk back to the café was silent as Minwoo tried to comfort himself. The other hyungs would remember, wouldn’t they? They always do, Minwoo told himself. But… why haven’t they wished me yet? The youngest of the six couldn’t help but to be filled with angst because, come on; Donghyun told him that he didn’t remember his birthday.

Thankfully, the walk to the café was a short one, so Donghyun didn’t have to keep feeling that guilty whenever he took a glance at Minwoo. The youngest kept looking like he wanted to cry and Donghyun didn’t like that it was his fault. He didn’t actually expect Minwoo to buy the lie, but he did and even though the plan was successful up to that point, Donghyun felt horrible.

Minwoo-ah, why do you look so upset? We didn’t forget, alright? I didn’t forget, Donghyun assured Minwoo mentally, stopping himself from saying the words aloud. The plan would be successful as long as he kept his mouth shut. The ironic thing was that Donghyun had been the one to suggest this surprise party. For the previous years, the other five would just ask Minwoo to go out somewhere after school to play or watch a movie and treat him to dinner. Donghyun just wanted Minwoo to remember this particular birthday celebration (as if his confession wasn’t going to be memorable…).

After another few moments of seeing Minwoo so depressed, Donghyun sighed inwardly and stopped, taking a deep breath before he strode back to his previous spot beside Minwoo and took a hold of the younger male’s slightly smaller hand. Minwoo had jumped a little at the sudden contact and looked up at Donghyun in confusion, but saw no readable expression on the elder’s face.

This is the first time Donghyun hyung’s holding my hand. But I shouldn’t get my hopes up, right? Why would he like a little kid like me? He needs someone who can share his burden, not add to it. We’re just holding hands. It’s nothing. Minwoo sighed and shook the negativity away, deciding that holding hands with Donghyun was better than nothing at all.

Upon hearing the sigh, Donghyun’s heart sank. Does Minwoo feel upset that he’s stuck with me? But he’s always liked any small forms of skinship from me! Ugh, I don’t stand a chance anymore!

Oh how wrong could the both of them be?

--------------------

When they neared the café, Donghyun almost backed out. He didn’t want to face rejection. But his dongsaengs would laugh at his cowardice, and they had been pressuring him to get his feelings out in the open for more than two years already. He finally gathered the courage after two years, yet he wanted to back out. How pathetic am I?

In the end, though, Donghyun stuck to the plan and led Minwoo into the café, letting go of the younger’s hand just before they entered. Minwoo didn’t even bother feeling upset anymore. He hadn’t expected Donghyun to like him back and he knew that Donghyun held his hand only to make him feel a little better.

Minwoo frowned when he realised that the café was dark. But we always open on Wednesdays. Did something happen-

Minwoo didn’t get to finish the unspoken thought as the lights were and four people jumped out of nowhere, popping streamers and quite literally screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINWOO-AH!” right in his ear. Minwoo winced a little, rubbed his ear because he felt that he was going deaf, and smiled at his hyungs brightly.

“What’s with this… surprise?” Minwoo asked, the smile forever tugging at his lips because yes, the hyungs didn’t forget!

“Oh, this? It’s all Donghyun hyung’s idea. He needed the scenario to be perfect, or something,” Kwangmin replied with a snort, earning himself a jab in the gut from Youngmin. He apologised with his head down, knowing that he just ruined something.

Donghyun was in the middle of thinking ways to remove Kwangmin from the face of the earth when Minwoo turned to him, his eyes b with tears. “Hyung, you planned this?” Minwoo asked softly. When Donghyun nodded hesitantly, Minwoo threw his arms around Donghyun’s neck and hugged the elder male tightly. “I thought you forgot about my birthday!” Minwoo nearly wailed.

“Minwoo, there’s more to come. Now let go of Donghyun hyung for a moment,” Hyunseong instructed gently while prying Minwoo’s arms away from Donghyun’s neck because Donghyun looked like he was about to pass out from the proximity with Minwoo.

“Donghyun hyung?” Jeongmin called out. “This isn’t supposed to happen,” Jeongmin said, groaning and dragging Donghyun to the kitchen to snap the elder male back to reality. There was still a last part to the surprise and it was none other than the confession.

While Donghyun was being pulled away, Youngmin took the liberty to bring Minwoo to the table where they placed all the food. There was pizza, kimchi spaghetti, bulgogi, jjajjangmyeon, bibimbab, and kimchi stew. There was also the chocolate lava cake along with glasses of various café drinks, namely mocha, cappuccino, caramel Frappuccino, hot chocolate, mint mocha, and vanilla latte. And last but not least, the traditional bowl of seaweed soup that everybody drank on their birthday.

“Who made all this?” Minwoo asked in mild surprise.

Hyunseong raised his hand while pointing to the kitchen. “Jeongminnie and me,” he said.

“I put up the decorations with Youngmin!” Kwangmin offered.

“But the seaweed soup was cooked by none other than Donghyun hyung,” Youngmin added cheekily.

Minwoo bit his lip. “I thought he forgot. In fact, I thought only he forgot, because he didn’t say anything just now,” Minwoo admitted. He was really convinced that Donghyun had forgotten because Donghyun was always the one who would turn up at his doorstep to wish him, every single year for four years.

Youngmin raised a brow. “Well, he was the one who fetched you. But if you’re surprised…” Youngmin trailed off, deciding to keep Minwoo in suspense. “You’ll see.”

---------------------

Back in the kitchen, Jeongmin felt like throttling Donghyun simply because he was still in a daze. Whether it was from the euphoria of being hugged or the nerves eating the elder up, Jeongmin didn’t know. All he knew was that Donghyun had the perfect chance to just tell Minwoo everything, and he knew that it would turn out well. But, well, Donghyun always begged to differ. This time would be no different, just that Donghyun was still, for lack of a better term, in a daze.

Jeongmin hesitated for a second before he slapped Donghyun lightly. He was glad it worked, or he would have done worse things to bring the elder back to reality. As soon as Donghyun was back, however, he started to freak out.

“Oh my god, he hugged me. He’s hugged me before but oh my god. And how am I supposed to do this? I can’t do this. Jeongmin I can’t do this oh god. What am I supposed to do?” Donghyun asked in panic. Jeongmin knew that the elder was ranting because his nerves were clearly getting the better of him, so he reached under the worktable and pulled out the two flowers that Donghyun had bought in the morning.

“This is your plan, hyung. You’re going to get this confession over with by hook or by crook, because everything’s going to turn out fine,” Jeongmin assured. Donghyun took the two flowers from Jeongmin but made no move to exit the kitchen, instead staring blankly at the flowers.

“He sighed when I held his hand earlier on. It wasn’t a happy sigh or anything. He hates me!” Donghyun exclaimed. Jeongmin wanted to hit Donghyun’s head with a hard metal object he liked to call a pot, but he didn’t since he didn’t want Donghyun to get a concussion.

“He doesn’t hate you! He’s a troubled kid, alright? He needs you to share his worries and you need him to share yours. If those two idiotic twins managed to get together, although they act nothing like a couple, you’ll definitely be alright with Minwoo. Now go and get this over with, hyung,” Jeongmin said encouragingly, pumping his fist for the added effect.

Right, perhaps I forgot to mention that the twins were a couple. Call it or twincest, because they really didn’t care about what others saw their relationship as. Under all that bickering they did, they really did love each other and it wasn’t only in a brotherly way.

Donghyun took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself. Note the use of the word attempt, because there was no way he could actually calm himself down. “How do people even confess?” Donghyun questioned exasperatedly. Jeongmin smiled and thought back to when Hyunseong confessed to him, a good three to four years ago.

“It just happens, I guess. Your confession is going to be the sweetest thing ever, hyung. Now get out there and tell Minwoo how you feel already!” Jeongmin ordered, picking his camera up while pushing Donghyun towards the kitchen doors. He discreetly turned the camera on and set it to video mode, already beginning to video Donghyun exiting the kitchen – discreetly, of course.

Donghyun gnawed on his lower lip so much that he thought his skin was going to come off completely. Nobody could blame him for being nervous, but he’s had five years to prepare and the others thought that it was more than enough. Donghyun didn’t think it was enough, but he had to get it over with or Minwoo might move on – if he even liked me at all.

Minwoo had his eyes on Donghyun the moment the elder male walked out of the kitchen, both hands holding something behind his back. He was wondering what on earth Jeongmin was filming but decided against questioning it, instead widening his eyes as Donghyun stopped in front of him and revealed what he was holding behind his back.

Two flowers.

“Huh?”

---------------------

Donghyun felt like dying there and then, the moment the ‘huh?’ slipped out of Minwoo’s mouth. I have to do this. I need to know what Minwoo feels for me, because five years is more than enough waiting for me.

“No Minwoo, you’re the most adorable person that exists to me. You’re breath-taking and pretty and handsome, all at the same time. You exude a charisma like no other when you dance, and to be honest I find myself entranced every single time you dance. I don’t really know when this happened, but you make my heart race and my mind goes blank whenever I see you. What I really want to say, Minwoo-ah, is that I like… no, I love you.”

Minwoo blinked once and his gaze travelled down to the flowers.

“Pick the flower on my right hand if it’s a yes, and the one on my left if it’s a no,” Donghyun said, the nerves really threatening to make him pass out right then. He watched as Minwoo bit his lip and Donghyun felt his heart thudding wildly in his chest, anticipating yet dreading the younger male’s reply.

He felt his heart shatter into a million pieces when Minwoo took the daffodil out of his left hand, examining the flower silently. Minwoo then took the ambrosia from Donghyun’s right hand and Donghyun felt his head spinning a little. Why is Minwoo doing this to me?

Eventually, Minwoo smiled and threw the daffodil onto the floor, throwing his arms around Donghyun’s neck just like earlier on. “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!” Minwoo cried – literally, the tears were flowing down his cheeks like a tap was on or something. The shattered pieces of Donghyun’s heart immediately glued themselves back together and the elder found that there were no words to express how he felt at that moment.

“Really?” he asked insecurely.

“Yes, you idiot hyung. You took so long I just…” Minwoo was cut off by a kiss to the lips. It was more of a peck, really, but he’d rather call it a kiss. It wasn’t as if Minwoo hadn’t been kissed before, if the multiple Truth of Dare sessions with his friends were any indication. But kissing Donghyun with the elder as his boyfriend was different. Minwoo’s heart exploded in his chest and as cliché as it sounded, it felt like fireworks were exploding everywhere.

Donghyun pulled away almost immediately, a dark blush spreading across his cheeks. There were wolf whistles from Kwangmin and Hyunseong while Jeongmin and Youngmin cooed at the sight. Minwoo had blushed as well, and had taken to burying his face in Donghyun’s chest. No wonder Jeongmin hyung was videoing something.

After a few more streamers were popped, the four decided to stop teasing the new couple and instead sat down abruptly. They hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast, which had been a good seven or so hours ago. Minwoo looked away from Donghyun’s chest when their friends suddenly quieted down, grateful that they weren’t teasing him and Donghyun anymore.

“Come on, hyung,” Minwoo said, tugging at Donghyun’s left hand and leading him to the empty seat beside his seat. Once seated, Minwoo reached for the bowl of seaweed soup and noticed Donghyun tense up, the flushed face from mere moments ago being exchanged for one filled with anticipation.

Minwoo took a tentative sip of the traditional seaweed soup and a smile spread across his face. He downed the entire bowl of soup in no more than three minutes, wiping his mouth and turning around to peck Donghyun on the cheek.

“That was the best soup I ever drank. Thanks hyung.”

The other four around the table groaned in unison.

They just got together and they’re already being so cheesy. How are we ever going to survive?

Suddenly, pressuring Donghyun into confessing seemed like the worst idea they ever had.

---------------------

After eating lunch, a very belated lunch since it was past 4pm by the time they actually started eating, everyone went to get their presents from the employee’s lounge. Minwoo was actually really looking forward to getting presents from his hyungs. Most of his schoolmates just gave him a card, or some chocolate. I’m going to get cavities after my birthday, Minwoo had thought when he saw how much chocolate he had received.

One by one, his hyungs returned with neatly wrapped presents of different sizes. The biggest was from Kwangmin and Minwoo could almost guess what was under the wrapping paper, having mentioned something about it to Kwangmin before.

Minwoo decided that he would see Donghyun’s present last and took Youngmin’s present first. He looked at Youngmin for permission to unwrap the present and when the elder nodded, Minwoo slowly and carefully removed the wrapping paper.

“Are these the dancing shoes I wanted?” Minwoo asked with a gasp. Youngmin shrugged and smiled and Minwoo squealed, hugging Youngmin and jumping around excitedly. He stopped when he saw the sour expression on Donghyun’s face and laughed. “Well somebody’s jealous. Thanks Youngmin hyung! I love this!”

The next was Hyunseong, forever the practical hyung. Minwoo removed the wrapping paper to see that Hyunseong had bought him a new backpack. But it happened to be the backpack that Minwoo had been clamouring for since two months back, so Minwoo squealed and jumped around again and hugged Hyunseong as well. “Hyunseong hyung, you’re amazing!”

After Hyunseong came Jeongmin. The present was flat for the most part, but there was a slight bump in the middle and it made Minwoo quite curious. The youngest opened Jeongmin’s present just as carefully as he did the others and another gasp escaped him when he saw the hoodie and cap he wanted. Again came the squealing, jumping and hugging and Donghyun thought he was going to die of jealousy. “Jeongmin hyung, you’re awesome!”

The last present, other than Donghyun’s, was from Kwangmin. The gigantic present was opened and, as expected, Kwangmin had given Minwoo a teddy bear. Minwoo had wanted a big teddy bear ever since seeing one at his birthday last year, and he was so disappointed that he couldn’t get it. Minwoo grinned brightly and hugged the teddy bear tightly while squealing and jumping, laughing at Kwangmin’s expression.

“How come I don’t get a hug?” Kwangmin asked sadly. Minwoo laughed some more before placing the bear on the ground and going over to hug Kwangmin.

“Happy?”

Kwangmin nodded and grinned, making Minwoo roll his eyes before going over to Donghyun.

“Donghyun hyung?” Minwoo asked expectantly, holding his hand out for his present. Donghyun nervously took the small black box out from his back pocket and placed it on Minwoo’s open palm, opening it to reveal a small silver ring. On it were the words ‘Kim Donghyun’ and Minwoo looked up at Donghyun, somewhat amused and very touched.

“Were you so sure that I would accept your confession?” Minwoo asked cheekily.

“That was an extra present. Your real present is here,” he said, holding out another present. It was the smallest present amongst everything else, but it got Minwoo’s attention alright. He gingerly opened the present and his breath caught in his throat.

There were two small trinkets, clearly both personalised and custom-made. The first was a keychain with a dancing b-boy, Minwoo’s full name engraved below the figure of the dancer. The second was a phone strap of the pair of dancing shoes that Youngmin had bought for Minwoo. Turning to Donghyun with teary eyes, Minwoo hugged Donghyun tighter than he did the others and whispered at least thirty ‘thank you’s to the elder.

“How’d you even make this?” Minwoo asked in a whisper, clearly having forgotten that the other four were watching them intently. Donghyun used his thumb to wipe Minwoo’s tears away and smiled softly at Minwoo.

“I was walking along the street when I saw a store making personalised key chains and phone straps. It took me almost a month to get it done because I had to draw the figures out, but it turned out fine… right?” Donghyun asked unsurely. Minwoo nodded furiously.

“It’s the best present ever.”

“Yah!” the other four shouted.

Minwoo turned around and stuck his tongue out at them before turning back to Donghyun and placing a kiss on the corner of the elder’s lips.

“Get a room!” Jeongmin joked. Minwoo looked at Donghyun with a playful glint in his eyes.

“Should we?”

Donghyun blushed and Minwoo laughed. “I’m kidding!”

“It’s a good thing I love you, you know.”

Minwoo nodded and grinned.

This is the best birthday ever.
