Road Trip.

Road Trip
The first time I saw him
he was carrying a six string on his back
and its case in his right hand.
Curious as to why he didn't put the acoustic into his case
I stayed in the area and watched
him as he placed it onto the floor.
I finally understood why
when he  flipped open the lock.
Coins and bills were tucked into the pockets
some falling out in the process.
Without a second thought
I pulled out my change purse and tossed in five dollars
I smiled and nodded my head politely
then
proceeded to turn the other way.

The first time I saw her
She thought I was some charity case.
I don't simply accept money from others
I earn my living
and take pride in this trait of mine.
I got up when she tried to walk away
and placed my hand onto her right shoulder softly.
With my trademark smile
I held her back and made sure she got her money's worth.
I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't
I chose the name Yixing for a reason you know?
I live to perform and I respect this art form immensely.
"You didn't listen to your song yet"
I said.

The second time I met him
he was playing the piano at a coffee house.
I'm not much of a musician
but the piece sounded very...
Classy.
Different from how free his guitar playing sounded
but equally beautiful nonetheless
Oh!
And I didn't notice this before
but he has a rather nice smile.

The second time I met her
She was sitting in the audience
at the cafe shop where I worked part time.
I smiled in her direction
and was happy to see her smile in return.
She recognizes me as well.
Oh!
And I didn't notice this before
but she has very beautiful eyes

The third time was typical
He was sitting next to a motorcycle
and singing as he played the guitar.
I put in ten dollars this time
and stayed till the end of the song before taking my leave.
His voice was delicate and soft
a perfect match for the acoustic.

The third time was typical
For double the amount it's only normal for her
to get double the song right?
I called out to her and started the next song
when she turned around.
"You need to stay for your second song."
I called.

The fourth time was interesting
He was sitting next to his motorcycle again.
This time next to my university
instead of the street market like the previous times.
I took out my change purse this time and put in seven dollars
I wonder what trick he has up on his sleeve
The fourth time was interesting
I couldn't help but chuckle when she tossed in her change
I played my song then got up
swinging my six string onto my back and took her hand.
She looked flustered when
the females around us flashed her a look of jealousy

I didn't even know his name
But I followed him anyway

I didn't even know her name
But I brought her there anyway

Icecream?

The best in town.

The fifth time we met was special
I was writing in my journal
when he placed an iced coffee onto the table.
I looked up and felt the edges of my lips lift.
He's absolutely adorable in uniform.
The name "Yixing" was scribbled messily
on his coffee bean shaped name tag.
"I thought you sang here Yixing?"
I questioned.

The fifth time we met was special
I was shocked when she said my name
only to blush in embarrassment
when she pointed at my nametag.
I only sing when they need performers
and work here as a waiter...
I wonder if she minds.
The sixth time was unexpected
Taking pictures at the beach
I almost fell over when his face
appeared onto the screen.
"What are you doing here?"
I asked.

The sixth time was unexpected
I had gone out to the beach
only to see her taking pictures
of the sunset.
I wanted to ask her the same thing.

The seventh time, I fell in love
He was singing at the street market again.
As I listened to his voice
I realized that there was so little that I knew of him.
We had met so many times
but never spoke about ourselves to the other.
I know his name and his face
his smile and his voice...
But that was all it took.

The seventh time, I fell in love
I noticed her in the audience
and was mesmerized by how the sun's rays
cascaded down her face.
I sang the song for her
this girl I knew nothing of.
She wouldn't even tell me her name
But I know she's kind and
I'm sure she wouldn't judge someone like me
And that was all it took.

The eighth time I learned a little more
He likes to sing and he wishes to travel the world
His parents have passed away
Just like mine
Leaving him to face the world alone
Just like me.

The eighth time I learned a little more
She likes to write and wishes
to really experience the world
Her parents have passed away
Just like mine
Leaving her to face this world on her own
But not anymore

The ninth time I was scared
But only just a little.
A "road trip" he said.
To travel across the smaller cities here
before we go out and really see the world.

The ninth time I was scared
But only just a little
I had a feeling she wouldn't reject me.
We'll take my bike
and make the travel expenses as I perform.

The tenth was exciting
With my extra savings
and the extra that he had
We set off.
To the closest town first of course

The tenth was exciting
We headed for a small town
I was familiar with first.
I'm sure she'll love their famous pancakes.
Oh and the people there too of course

My cheeks were flushed pink
as I held onto him.
I hadn't really thought this through
But I really didn't mind
I felt safe
Hands wrapped around his torso
and resting on his back.

My heart began to race
as I told her to hold on tight.
I hadn't really though this through
But I really didn't mind
I felt warm
Even with the wind blowing towards my motorcycle
Since I had her there.

When we arrived
The city was filled with
the smiling faces of their locals.
Yixing bought us some pancakes
And told me stories over some pop

When we arrived
The city was filled with
the laughter of the locals.
I bought us some pancakes
And prayed she enjoyed my stories over some pop

He sang by the street corner
As I wrote in my travel journal.
I took a picture of him with my polaroid
when he wasn't looking
and continued to write.
I wanted to document every part of this trip.
The first adventure to our never ending list.

She wrote in her travel journal
As I sang by the street corner.
I noticed her taking a picture of me
when she thought I wasn't looking
and continued to sing.
I wonder if I looked alright in that photo,
The first of many she'll take of me
on our never ending trip.

I've lost count now
I hope he doesn't get angry.
It's a long weekend this week
which means we're going to another city.
I hope my polaroid still works
I think Yixing said something about Rome.

Day nine hundred and eighty-six
Or was it eighty-seven?
It's a long weekend this week
which means we're going to another city.
I hope my fans don't find out
I've always wanted to see Rome.
