Year: 20xx; 30 years after initial infection.

Thirty years prior, a new species of the Cordyceps fungi had been recorded popping up around the globe. Cordyceps fungi, known as a parasitoid, until this point targeted small insects to become its host. This new species, however, had somehow evolved to the point of being able to infect humans.

The infection is both brutal and incurable. If one ingests the spores the fungus lets off, it’s over. The symptoms start with mild aggression, but within a couple of days, the infected will have almost completely lost their humanity. The only thought on their mind is to infect others (generally through a bite or scratch) and spread the infection to new hosts.

With enough exposure to the spores, the fungus actually mutates the hosts’ body, until its body becomes completely unrecognizable as human. The infection, which grows from the brain, will consume the skull, first, inhibiting the sense of sight to the point of eventual blindness. If the fungus finds the host body unsuitable or unable to carry out what it needs it to do, it will kill the host and use the corpse to grow more fungus and release intense amounts of spores into the air around it.

After the initial shock, the military stepped in, closing off sectors in cities that would soon grow to be called Quarantine Zones, everyone within the zones is subject to screenings for the infection, if they’re infected, they are executed on sight.

In an extremely oppressive society, a handful of resistance groups rise up to try and regain freedom for the civilians. EXO, lead by Wu Yifan and Kim Junmyeon, is one of the most famous in the Seoul QZ. Known for their loyalty to people and extreme care to avoid injuring innocents at all costs, their main objective becomes finding a cure for the incurable infection and to put mankind back in control of the world.
