Few could claim to be bright enough to have borrowed sunlight. None could be bothered to give it back. And then there was Sungjong...
Foreword
Tiny hands reach for something that isn’t quite there.
“He’s adorable, isn’t he?” Coos and nodding and large hands that pinch cheeks affirm this rhetorical question. “I think I’m going to call him Sungjong.”
At the sound of the melodic name, the tiny hands grab faster and tiny cries can be heard. “I think he likes it!”
A wave of curiosity washes over the room. “He?” The woman who voices this is particularly bold, her eyebrows bunched together in confusion and her lips pursed at the enigma of this newborn’s gender.
The mother only smiles. “I know. He’s beautiful, right?”
“My Lee Sungjong.”
Large, drowsy eyes blink in and out of a day-long slumber.
“Look at our boy. With all that sleep he’s going to grow up all nice and tall.” Feminine giggles respond to this statement, before lulling the speaker to a different bedroom.
Hands, not as small as they were before, reach for something that is no longer there.
When his arms are too tired to reach for the dangling stars, and eyes too tired to stay open, he retracts from this world into another, where the lavish garments adorning his nursery are more than just for show and the letters on his crib actually spell out his name.
