New Perspective

"Simply In Love."

✘✘✘✘✘

Jongup can’t recall as to why he’s near to banging his forehead on the desk, a pencil on his right hand and a blank paper lying on the wooden surface. He puffs his cheeks as an attempt to comprehend his frustration, and he soon heaved out a heavy breath. Why was sketching so difficult for him? He can’t even explain as to why his hands can’t manage to glide the lead onto the blank expanse of the paper taunting him. The young man haphazardly banged the pencil on the table and threaded his slender fingers onto his hair, nearly pulling at them.

     When did this all start?

-

The sun rays slowly seeped from the window and into their shared room, causing it to cast subtle yellow lights that dance around the room playfully. A certain of radiance shone directly onto the sleeping Jongup, causing him to stir awake. He fluttered his eyes open, trying to compose himself from being snapped out from his dreamy state. The man turned to his side, hopeful to see someone who made mornings like these extra special. His eyes caught the sight of his boyfriend stuck on a severe focus as his back was leaned against the bed frame, his legs bent to act as a make-shift table for his sketchpad. He held a pencil on his hand and He was scribbling lines precisely from Jongup’s view.

“Good morning, did you sleep well?” He heard when he thought He probably have noticed him. His voice was laced with the usual pensiveness and Jongup couldn’t help but think as to how lucky he must’ve been to be able to have someone like him to share his mornings with. It was mornings like this where Jongup couldn’t help but be cheesy. He hoped from the bottom of his heart that He didn’t mind, or cringe at the thought. He pushed his worries at the back of his mind as he snakes his arms around his waist and leans his head on his shoulder.

“Mhmm. Why are you up so early?” Jongup’s voice was still clouded with sleep, and Himchan wouldn’t admit it, but He grew fond of that voice.

“Guppie, I’m drawing.” He heard him reply, and he couldn’t help but feel that tinge of jealousy. Was that drawing more important to him that he is? He shifts a glance at the supposedly sketch that his boyfriend gave up sleep for so early in the morning, and he could feel his heart skip a beat about five maybe eight or a hundred times.

It was a sketch of him soundly asleep.

“You gave up hours of sleep just to creep on me?” Jongup , he made his voice purposely high and it caused Himchan to laugh lightly. It was that sound that was always stuck inside his head like a broken record, and he didn’t mind having it on repeat all day.

“One more word from you and I will draw a mustache and give you extra small eyes.” He replied with much needed wit, pointing the of his pencil directly at Jongup’s nose. Of course, there was a smile painted across his face and both of them shared a hearty laughter.

Early mornings are the best, Jongup thinks.

Jongup draws his finger from the bed sheet to the smooth surface of the paper, and gives him a peck on the cheek.

“You give me too much credit. I don’t look that handsome.” Jongup honestly thinks this, considering the fact that he had five members who he thought was much more attractive that he is He’s glad that he can share a little bit of his hidden insecurities with someone, not because he wants someone to pity him, but because the mere thought of confiding and letting it out felt like a tons of boulders were lifted from his shoulders.

“You give yourself too little credit, Guppie.” Himchan comments as He creates subtle shadows on the drawing that both of them were staring at with awe.

That was the moment that Jongup decided that he wanted to return the gesture of love. He knows in his heart that he can’t draw to save his life, but what’s the harm in it? After all, if you truly love a person, wouldn’t you be willing to do just about anything in order for you to express that bottle of emotions?

As the sun consumes the darkness with its light, in that illuminated room, Jongup decides he’ll draw Himchan.

-

He never thought that drawing would be that of an easy hobby to learn.

Jongup would have probably spent a good measure of three hours watching tutorials on YouTube, or maybe picking up reference from the internet, but to his dismay, his desk was nothing but a clutter of crumpled pages, pencils, and a frustrated feeling.

The dancer was severely disappointed at himself.

He glances at the picture of the two of them pulling silly faces at the camera once again, and he decides that he’ll try.

     He’ll try to get better.

Jongup attempts to skilfully make out lines, every curve and stain on the paper thought out with caution, and nothing was done in haste. He started from the outline of his face, to the flow of his long, silky hair, and the tip of his pencil went to a halt when it was the doomed time to draw Himchan’s face, because he knew that all of his futile attempts will always amount to nothing because he can never truly grasp his beauty the way he sees it.

He laughs to himself as an idea crawled into his mind.

In a snap, all of the frustrations went away.

-

Himchan looked up from the book that He was reading as Jongup emerged in his room with an annoying grin on his face.

“What?” He laughed, placing the novel on his bedside table, patting on the side of his bed gesturing him to sit down. Jongup followed suit, but remained silent for about a minute or two, and Himchan couldn’t help but be curious about what his intentions might be.

“I have a gift for you.” Jongup’s lips were tugged upward into a mesmerizing curve, his cheeks getting rounder as his smile was growing wider. Himchan tilted his head to the side, curiosity slowly burning through his mind, but excitement overrode.

     “Well?”

Jongup fished out a paper from his back, and placed it eye-level to Himchan’s sight. It was his supposed to be masterpiece.

     A simple portrait of him.

“Surprise!” He exclaimed, trying to hold back his laughter.

Himchan’s sight was filled with a paper, with a seemingly clean outline, the shape of the head was good, the of the lines that make up the hair were surprisingly impressive, the neck down to the torso was still human.

“I-Is this me?” He laughed as his eyes were fixed to the face of the drawing. He quickly snatched it away from Jongup’s grasp, eyeing at the work to a much more steady hold.

The drawing of the face was priceless. Two eyes that were made up of dots, and lips that seems liked the figure of the number three, implying a face that wanted a kiss. On top of his head was a speech bubble with a “Himchan loves Moon Jongup” messily scribbled on the hollow of it.

“It’s…beautiful. Guppie.” He said whilst grinning, trying his best not to break into soft giggles.

     “Don’t lie to me~”

“I promise you, I like it. I really do!” He motioned his head closer to the younger’s side and planted a chaste kiss on his cheek, staining it a little with his lipstick.

“I will never be able to put into paper how beautiful you are, so I hope you like the twist in my art style.” Jongup joked, as he tried to sound proud of his work.

“It’s great, you should draw some more.” Himchan played along. “Maybe we’ll even put up a gallery. I don’t even think you’re born to be an idol. You’re supposed to be a sketch god.” He laughed, pinching Jongup’s round cheeks, which earned him a few annoyed whines.

“Thank you for the.. effort?” He raised his brow and stuck a tongue out at the male, as He placed the drawing safely inside the drawer of his bedside table.

“I really worked hard on that, you know..” Jongup sighed with a false hurt expression, dramatically clutching at his chest where his heart is supposed to be.

     “I’m sure you did.”

“I love you.” Jongup said almost too quickly.

     “I love you too.”

-

The light pitter-patter from the outside drummed against the window, and Himchan pulled himself up into a sitting position. The clock on the wall flashed that it was only nine in the morning, and He turned to his side, expecting Jongup to be in a dream state, and his feeling served to be true.

He grabs his sketchpad from the inside of the drawer, and starts to do a quick and playful sketch so akin to what Jongup had just given to him. He wanted to laugh as He made his eyes much like slits and drew a funny mustache like He threatened days before He was given the gift. He scribbles “Pabo-Moon Jongup!” inside the speech bubble that He created.

Once Himchan was satisfied with his doodle, He stitched the two comical photos together with tape and pasted it on one of their bedroom walls before crawling back onto the bed with Jongup. The steady breathing of the younger lulled him back to sleep, and He couldn’t ask for someone any better.

Jongup woke up hesitantly as he noticed that his boyfriend was still asleep. He ached to spend time with him but schedules have been piling up and the most that they can have are these little morning together. He stood up yet his eyes caught a sight of an unfamiliar change in his room. It was the drawing of them, although Himchan seemed to get a pay back from his masterpiece yesterday.

As he was walking to the drawing with a light chuckle ringing out of his throat, he rummaged through the bedside drawer for a pencil and he quickly scratched the lead on the paper, adding a few more phrases onto ‘Pabo-Moon Jongup!’

He stared lovingly at him, and placed his lips on his sleeping figure before he carried on with his morning preparation because he can’t afford to be late, not after the management has been graceful enough to let him spend time with his boyfriend.

As he sprang out of the apartment, he couldn’t wait for him to have a look what he has left for him to see in his wake.

Pabo-Moon Jongup! is helplessly and madly in love with Himchan.
