Are You Afraid?
Thunder crashed outside and lighting lit up the skies. The rumbles shook the floor, making the red haired boy stiffen inside his cocoon of blankets. Thunderstorms were not exactly Tao’s favorite event, in fact he was quite scared of them. As another flash and booming noise shook the room, Tao couldn’t help but let out a small whimper. He pulled the blankets up over his head in an attempt to block out the storm. Almost forgetting he wasn’t alone, he was oblivious to the other man in the room who had undoubtedly heard the panic stricken noise escape his lips.
Kris listened to the storm calmly. Unlike Tao, he enjoyed the thrill of the thunder shuddering through the floor. But he was also worried for the maknae, Tao was scared of many things, but hearing the whimper still made Kris uneasy. There was another flash and not a second later another roll of thunder shook the windows. Tao tried to bite back another high pitched sound by biting his lip, hard. Feeling something trickle off his lip, he wasn’t sure if it was the tears that had started to pour down his cheeks, or if he had in fact broken the skin on his lip.

Feeling something trickle off his lip, he wasn’t sure if it was the tears that had started to pour down his cheeks, or if he had in fact broken the skin on his lip.
Kris was still laying peacefully on top of his blankets when he heard a small squeak followed quickly by a sniffle. He sat up quickly, but cursed himself silently when the mattress underneath him squeaked under his movements. Tao froze when he heard another member moving in the room, realizing that he was sharing the hotel room with Kris only made it more embarrassing that he could have heard Tao’s small noises. He became as still as possible, holding all of his emotions inside, but was unable to keep himself from in a breath as soon as another rumble shook the bed beneath him. When he heard another small noise from the other boy in the room, he let himself slide completely off his bed.
As his feet touched the floor another bolt of lightning flashed through the skies, illuminating the huddled form on the opposite bed for a moment before they were once again plunged into darkness. He made his way over to Tao’s bed, sure that the other knew he was awake as well he didn’t try to be silent. Tao closed his eyes tight, fearing that his senses were not fooling him in letting him know that Kris was approaching his bed. “Tao?” The words were spoken so softly that Tao couldn’t help but whimper out a small, “Kris” In return.
Kris’s heart skipped a beat when he heard his name slip from the innocent lips. He reached a hand out and placed it on what he thought should be Tao’s arm, rolling him onto his back. Tao stiffened under the hand for a second before relaxing into the touch and letting himself be rolled over. Next Kris slowly pulled the covers down away from Tao’s face. Although they were in dim lighting Kris could tell the look on Tao’s face was not one that he had seen before. Sure he had seen Tao cry before, but the gleam of desperation in his eyes made him look so much younger.
Another flash lit up the space between the two and Tao jumped slightly as the thunder once again took hold of his emotions. A new stream of tears flowed down his cheeks as he realized what his leader must think of him now. Feeling Tao jump under his hand made his stomach drop, the poor boy was terrified. In an attempt to crawl onto the bed, he took his hand off Tao’s shoulder. But as soon as his hand left the blanket, Tao reached out and caught it with his own, looking up at him with desperation shining through his tears. “Don’t leave…Please?” Kris felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest, the sad puppy eyes were just too much.
“I’m not going anywhere, okay?” Tao slowly let go of Kris’s hand and let his elder pull himself onto the bed next to him. As soon as Kris was on the bed with his head propped on the pillows, he looked down at Tao. With the leader’s gaze on him, Tao was suddenly very aware of how close he was to Kris. He could hear his breathing, if he was a bit closer, he might even be able to hear his heartbeat. After all it wasn’t that large of a bed. When another flash and rumble erupted around them, Tao just about jumped into Kris’s lap. He had bundles of Kris’s shirt bunched in his fists and his face hidden in the crook of his neck. Kris’s breath hitched in his throat as Tao’s uneasy breath tickled the soft skin on his neck.
“Hey.” Kris took his hand and tipped Tao’s face up to meet his eyes. “You don’t need to be scared. I’m here now.” Tao nodded and Kris reached up tentatively to wipe the tear soaked cheeks of the younger man. Feeling the hand caressing his face, Tao closed his eyes and let himself lean into Kris’s hand. Kris noticed that the frightened look was fading from Tao’s face, so he continued rubbing small circles on his cheeks. When another flash lit up the room, Tao buried his face into Kris’s chest before the crash of thunder made it to their ears. He was now fully on top of the leader’s lap, but neither of them minded, although it did send Kris’s stomach into a flip that almost made him feel queasy. But the sound of Tao’s small gasping whimpers made him forget about his nerves for the moment.
“Tao, the thunder is not going to hurt you. It’s just a storm.” Tao peeked up at him, eyes shining with new tears. “I-I know. B-but I j-just don’t l-like it.” Kris had to admit, the boy looked damn pathetic. And being the leader he was, Kris was responsible for making the younger boy feel better, right? Kris thought it was a good idea. “My mum used to tell me it was just a bunch of giants dancing in the sky.” He told Tao the silly story to try and lighten the mood and get the teen’s mind off the storm itself. But it seemed that the story had only frightened the boy more by the look in his wide eyes. Kris sighed and unconsciously wrapped his arms around Tao.
“Not actual giants silly, there isn’t such thing as giants.” The fear faded from Tao’s eyes, replaced instead by a much softer gaze. “Then where did you come from?” This small and all too serious comment made Kris laugh, mostly because he didn’t exactly have an answer for him. “You are one to talk about being tall.” This brought a slight smile ghosting over Tao’s lips, which in turn encouraged Kris to keep him talking. “I guess my mom wasn’t afraid of giants because she raised one, making it a perfect story to use.” He nodded down at the huddled boy on his lap, realizing now that Tao had relaxed a bit.
“Or maybe you fell from the sky and hit your head. Now they are rejoicing the fact that you are gone.” Tao yawned in the middle of his sentence, muffling the words slightly. Kris just shook his head, how did he come up with these things? The question was one that might not ever be answered. “How come you aren’t scared?” Kris looked down at the maknae, to keep his feeling in check he had to take a breath before he spoke again. “Because I know nothing bad is going to happen to me while you're here because there is someone else with me.” Kris didn’t try to make it sound like that, but Tao didn’t seem to mind.
“I understand Kris, I feel better now that you are here.” Kris felt Tao’s head burrow deeper into his neck, leaving a tingling sensation wherever his lips seemed to innocently touch. But those “innocent” touches were driving Kris insane. He tried not to squirm under the boy, but if he continued to nuzzle his face into the sensitive skin of his neck, Kris was bound to do something about it. “G-good, I d-don’t want you t-to be afraid.” He managed to stutter out the response as Tao’s arms found their way around Kris’s waist. “I’m only a little afraid now.” Tao’s lips brushed against Kris’s collarbone, sending shivers through his body that Tao must have felt.
The younger boy didn’t seem to notice though, instead he continued to tease the elder by tracing small circles on his back. Even through the shirt Kris couldn’t stand it. Tao felt the man tense beneath him. His intentions at first were not to torture the man, but when he started to squirm under Tao’s movements, it was almost too tempting. “I think the storm is stopping.” Tao’s voice was almost disappointed, but there was something else laced into it that Kris couldn’t decipher. There was little time for Kris to ponder on it though because Tao shifted his position slightly so that he was looking into Kris’s face.
Through the dark, Kris could see the marks down Tao’s cheeks from the tears. This sent another shock through Kris, making him want to hold the boy closer. Or kiss him. But that thought was quickly pushed away. “Then should I go back to bed?” Kris was already getting up to drag his emotionally confused-self back to bed, but Tao held him there for a second. “Wait one more thing.” Kris opened his mouth to ask him what it is he needed, expecting a request for a glass of milk. But instead, before he could utter a word, Tao’s lips met his softly. Kris let out what could have been a moan of surprised pleasure and kissed the heavenly lips.
To Kris’s dismay, the soft pleasure that was Tao’s lips disappeared all too soon. Looking down, Kris found Tao already snuggling into the blankets. “You can go to bed now.” Kris could almost hear the embarrassment in Tao’s voice. Reluctantly Kris stood up silently doing what he was told. Again as he was turning to leave, he was stopped by Tao grabbing onto his wrist. “I didn’t mean your bed.” Kris smiled and hastily slid into the sheets next to Tao. He wasn’t sure what had happened but pulling Tao close to him and giving him one last kiss goodnight, he didn’t really care, as long as it didn’t have to stop.
