At Least It Was Here

Happy Days

Just as Principal E had anticipated, it was only a matter of moments before the auditorium was empty again. Watching as the last few students eagerly took their enrollment sheets and ran outside to find their dorms, she couldn't help but grin to herself. "Looks like we're going to have a good year."

Being one of the first to reach the noticeboard, a tall boy scanned his age group's list for his name.

Dorm capacity: 4 students

  • Jae dorm - Pyo Jihoon, Yuya Tegoshi
  • Kang-Dae dorm - Yang Yoseob, Yang Seungho
  • Kwang Ho dorm - OPEN
  • Min Ki dorm - OPEN
  • Young Soo dorm - OPEN

Girls’ dorms

  • Ho Sook dorm - Lee Sunkyu, Choi Sooyoung, Kim Taeyeon
  • Hyun Ae dorm - Meng Jia, Im Yoona
  • Jung dorm - OPEN
  • Mi Cha dorm - OPEN
  • Yun Hee dorm - OPEN

"Kim Jonghyun," he read aloud, noticing it written beside his own name.

"Oh, you've heard of me already?" a shorter boy grinned, appearing beside him. "That's understandable. I figured I'd be one of the well-known trainees. If you want an autograph--"

"Calm down a notch, you're my roommate," the other interrupted, a grin appearing on his face as Jonghyun's shoulders deflated. "I was just reading out loud, that's all."

Taking a quick look around to ensure no one else heard his mistake, Jonghyun was quick to straighten up again, looking back at his new dormmate with bright eyes. "Regardless, it's great to meet you... Minho!" he added after checking the list. "Got any idea where Hyun Ki is?"

"You kidding? I've been collecting brochures of this place for months. The dorms are massive, man, you're going to love it."

Before they had a chance to squeeze out of the crowd, a deep voice had them startled. "'scuse me, coming through--" Another male - already deemed unfairly tall in Jonghyun's eyes, just as he had mentally dubbed Minho - made his way towards the noticeboard, his fingers running down to find his name. "Jae Dorm. With Yuya Tegoshi? We have a Japanese student, that's mad."

Jonghyun looked up at Minho for a moment before deciding to introduce himself to the other. He was hoping to make as many friends as possible and wanted to take every opportunity to do so. "Pretty cool, isn't it? I'm Jonghyun, by the way."

"Pyo Jihoon," the other replied, a slight look of surprise on his face. He glanced up at Minho expectantly, who said his name with a quick nod of acknowledgement.

"Anyway, we were about to get going. Keen to check out these dorms - see you later, Jihoon!" Jonghyun called out, followed by a wave from Minho as the two disappeared from sight.

Jihoon shoved his hands in his pockets and exhaled lightly, eyeing over the girls' listings for a moment before walking outside to fill out his enrollment sheet. "Maybe I should apply for a job," he wondered, ticking and writing his information on each of the different sections. His head only raised again upon hearing a stressed-sounding voice.

"Schedule? Ah, I wonder what to pick... I hope I'm making the right choices..." a small girl mumbled to herself, and - feeling motivated by Jonghyun's ability to easily meet new people - Jihoon gathered the courage to walk over to her.

"Hi, I'm Pyo!"

She looked up at him and smiled brightly. "Nice to meet you, Pyo~ I'm Sunny!"

He found himself smiling at her joyfulness and gave a quick bow. "Nice to meet you too, Sunny noona!" he added, sneakily noting she'd written on her enrollment sheet that she was born in '89. "Have you... chosen your schedule yet?"

"Yeah, I just did it," she replied, holding up her sheet with an uncertain frown. "Hope I picked the right stuff. What'd you pick?"

"Hmm..." Jihoon leaned over to show her his listings. "And for after school I'm thinking of applying as a barrista at the Bean Cafe!" he added with excitement. "What about you?"

"Uh, let's see~ P.E, Choir Practice, Songwriting, Dance Routines, Group Activity... and I applied for cashier at Keiko's Bun Bakery! We might have some classes together~" she said, her eyes turning into crescents as she smiled.

"Let’s hope so! It would be really fun," he nodded, chuckling as he rubbed the back of his neck bashedly. "Have you spoken to the others yet, noona?"

"Eh?" she asked suddenly, wide-eyed. "Oh, no~ I haven’t. I wonder where they all are?"

"I think they've all run to their dorms. Everyone's extremely nice, though-- from what I gathered after one meeting, I mean..." his words were trailed off as a loud female voice rang through his ears.

"LEE SUNKYU! KIM TAEYEON! Come to me, roomies!"

Sunny's head snapped towards the direction of the voice and she gave Jihoon a quick wave. "Sounds like I'm wanted~ It was great meeting you, Pyo! See you later!" Before he had a chance to say a word, she'd already run off. He threw his hand down - it had been raised in mid-wave before she disappeared - and, letting out a laugh, turned around to find his way to dorm.

The girl who had shouted placed her hands on her hips and looked around, trying to see if anyone was making their way toward her. Her eyes lit up as she noticed someone a few metres away cautiously asking if anyone had said 'Taeyeon'. She bounced over to her and grinned. "HELLO!"

"Bwoh?" the other replied, startled. "Hello."

"Kim Taeyeon, right? Looks like we're dormmates! You should probably buy some earplugs..."

"Yeah, I'm excited-- wait, what? Why do I need earplugs? I already have a hard enough time sleeping..." Taeyeon asked, a worried frown appearing on her face.

"Believe me, sleeping in the same room as me will be a lot harder without them!"

Taeyeon laughed and shook your head. "You'd better like tents, then, because you're sleeping outside," she joked.

"Fine," the taller declared stubbornly, folding her arms. "Just don’t come crawling back after I build a super cool tent with an inbuilt buffet!"

"Fine by me, I'll have the whole dorm to myself! Oh, those comfy beds and working refrigerator~" Taeyeon cooed, sighing happily.

Sooyoung scoffed. "I think you're underestimating my thieving abilities! Obviously one needs a proper refrigerator in order to host a buffet~"

"Hello, girls! Are any of you Sooyoung or Taeyeon?" a short girl asked, walking up to the three.

"You must be Sunny," Taeyeon said with a smile. "I'm Taeyeon. Tall and loud over there is Sooyoung. She recommends you buy earplugs..."

"What, you mean for snoring? HA~" she laughed, giving a thumbs up. "I'm the same, girl. Let's all buy each other earplugs as a housewarming gift."

Taeyeon's shoulders dropped. "You're both sleeping outside tonight!"

Bending over slightly, Sooyoung whispered loudly in Sunny's ear. "Don't worry about it - I'm making the best tent in existence. We're going to sleep like queens!"

"Whatever you say..." Taeyeon chuckled. "Anyway, I'm feeling pretty tired. Been a long day. I'm going to go take a nap, you girls coming?"

"Yeah, I'll come with you!" Sunny said, linking arms with her roommate and glancing over at Sooyoung, who shook her head.

"Nah, I'm going to do some exploring. See you girls later! AND DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU FIND YOUR REFRIGERATOR MISSING WHEN YOU WAKE UP!"

"Yah... if you're planning on stealing school property, you might want to lower your voice a little when you say it," a girl around Sooyoung's height informed her with a grin.

"I'm not so much... stealing as I am borrowing, though. I'm sleeping in the hallway tonight, so..." she laughed.

The other girl gasped lightly. "Wha? How come you're camping in the hallway?! Aigoo, is your roommates' snoring driving you away already?"

"Actually, it's more of my snoring that's the issue," she admitted. "But it's okay! I’m building a giant tent that’s going to include an in-built buffet, our dorm’s refrigerator, my bed, and some books. Sunny might be joining too! We're going to have way more fun than Taeng will by herself~" she added, grinning proudly.

"Livin' the life, my friend! I'll be sure to bring some doughnuts for you in the morning!" she nodded, smiling warmly. "I'm Yuri, by the way. Kwon Yuri!"

"Thanks, Yuri, you're so nice! My name's Choi Sooyoung. I'm going to take you up on that promise, though, okay? No backing out!" she insisted, waving a finger jokingly in warning.

"No backing out. Cross my heart," Yuri grinned, giving a nod. As the two chatted their way to their respective dorms, they couldn't help but admire the school's beautiful scenery. "You know what, 'youngie? They say trainee life is full of sweat and tears, but let me tell you... if it had to be anywhere... I'm glad it was here."
