CHARACTERS

Yoona is the first daughter of King Sunghyun, the ruler of Byungmi, and she’s destined to marry Changmin, the prince of Sangdokchi under conditions that the latter kingdom will also protect the small village of Byungmi against an upcoming conspiracy of the rising nations. She’s portrayed as heroic yet at times childish. She shows the perfect characteristics of what a princess should not be, despite fulfilling her mission to marry. Another purpose of hers is to get back her younger sister’s eyes and look for her missing brother who will attain the rightful place as king in Byungmi. As time progresses, she finds herself falling in love with another man, critically hurting her husband who seemed to have feelings for her. The love triangle between the royals leads to an undesirable battle; Yoona will be torn upon which path to follow. All her life, she had been following duties, was it right this time to follow her heart?

[ C h a n g m i n ]

Changmin is the pessimistic kind of incumbent king, always aloof and sophisticated that it made all the single women in Sangdokchi fall head over heels for him. Yet, as blank as he tries to be, he couldn’t help but be pleased with Yoona, the princess he married due to the fact that she seemed to mess things up even when she’s doing her best not to. She entertained him, brought color to his simple life. But when he realizes that she can’t return his feelings, his heart was in rage---fighting for her love was the worst battle yet. He is sympathetic, understanding yet at times bratty if not given what he wants.

[ K i b u m ]

Kibum is one of Yoona’s friends she met at the night of her wedding, who always accompanies her when she has problems living in Sangdokchi. She helps Yoona with everything----searching also for a sorcerer that could help. The more they spend time together, though he thinks it’s wrong and not based upon his sole purpose, his heart had grown madly in love with her, even when she was already married to the man he feared the most. But that was the point, to weaken the strongest mind in Sangdokchi by holding his woman captive by heart.

[ S e o h y u n ]

Even without her eyes, Seohyun cares for her people, and being the maknae of King Sunghyun, knows she has to follow orders. Her unnie Yoona was to rule over Sangdokchi alongside with the original prince while she, the next serving queen of Byungmi was to wait on order after the war. Because of the fact that their kingdom has been infiltrated by troops of the enemies, her father the King had not permitted them to return and thus her stay in Sangdokchi is lengthened. During her stay, she meets an unexpected villager, who despite her blindness, had learned to love her. She couldn’t understand him that much when he promised to get back her sense of sight yet slowly her heart was falling for him. And when she did, the time when Sangdokchi was reached by the enemy, Seohyun and her friend got separated---then and there realizing the secret of their rings. She was requested to return to her own kingdom and rule over it, for something unfortunate happened.

[ K y u h y u n ]

Kyuhyun’s ring had always made him wonder why it had Byungmi written all over it. Upon hearing that their Prince had married a woman from Byungmi, he attends their wedding reception, seeing during the banquet a woman as gorgeous as the stars above. It made his heart beat so fast upon seeing her. The more that he knows that she was from Byungmi the more he wishes to be with her and ask her about it. He later on finds out that she’s blind, he tells her all sorts of things and promises to get back her sense of sight. When she did see, the war started and they were separated. He was imprisoned and lucky for the royals, they managed to run back to their home while some of the villagers were used as slaves---Kyuhyun and his friend Victoria being a few of them. He escapes along with his cousin and meet up in Byungmi only to see that Seohyun was getting married to a prince.

[ V i c t o r i a ]

Victoria has always been the only girl in their trio, giving her more privileges than Kyuhyun especially to the fact that Nichkhun has that soft spot for her. She’s brave and enthusiastic, sometimes violent. Later, as she meets up with one of the Byungmi princesses, Victoria’s heart becomes overprotective of her best friend, thinking so soon that Seohyun was taking Kyuhyun for herself and being the one left behind, she never liked the idea. It has always been her dream to become the princess.

[ N i c h k h u n ]

Nichkhun is Kyuhyun’s cousin, the adopted son of his aunt and uncle. He is oftentimes out of place, nearly ignored when the other two of his closest friends leave him off to cause trouble again. Still, he is composed and well-reserved, a clever thinker. His emotions for Victoria are kept, knowing that if he were to tell her this, it will ruin his relationship with her and he doesn’t want to lose the girl to his only cousin. He fights for Victoria, always contradicting that idea that he has always been there for her. He is the only man who has an idea where the story would go, knowing of course the dark secret and past of his cousin Kyuhyun. As the war intesifies, the more their story get intricate and difficult to measure up.

[ S o o y o u n g ]

Sooyoung is Changmin’s first love and by far the closest woman he ever let in his heart. When the marriage proposal was set, it broke both of their hearts but nonetheless, even while the prince was married, Sooyoung stuck with him like glue. Because she knows that eveyrthing they were going through at the moment would be worth it, would be perfect in the end once the war is over. Sooyoung still believes that Changmin would fulfill his promise but discovered unbelievable results.

Foreword

Prologue--- the missing prince

Days, weeks, months, years, decades, and centuries long before the modern day, small parts of Korea was cultivated and colonized by different people, causing the massive change in traditional culture and thus provoking to new ordeals and laws that need be followed by the small villages. As time progressed, the country fought its way to freedom, earning once again their land. But out of all the villages in the country, a few still trailed on to the culture the foreigners had on them---having monarchies and dynasties according to their way of life: riding in horses and wearing ball gowns were all the customary. These traditions remained to others.

The kingdom of Byungmi was a peaceful realm. The King once belonged to a clan of brave warriors who defeated invaders, and so he was tougher than what the townspeople expect. Whatever battles he fought, he always won them over, attaining at least a price from each of his victory. He has a room in the palace solely for these treasures and no one is allowed inside, heavily guarded by monstrous blokes. Soon afterwards, he felt lonesome not having anyone assume his role because his wife, the lovely queen, could not bear him a successor.

One night he snuck out to the deep Jeohwang Forest, knowing a witch who used spells and magic. Though these magical creatures cease to exist and only little of their kind is roaming in the world, he knew very well that this witch was quite special. The king visited her, requested from her the next King of Byungmi but was regarding only of a very heavy price. The king must forcefully give up the Elixir of Youth, which generated its holder to be youthful, once every drink and will stay as so as long as he or she keeps on drinking it. Every drop was as valuable as a dragon’s scale, and so the King was worried he would be tricked. He promised the witch to give her a few of it tomorrow, and so with that bargain they made a deal.

The next day the King brought in a small bottle wrapped around in purple cloth. It was unsafe to be near the Elixir of Youth during the morning, it drains out childhood memories from the one who held it. That’s why it is always drunk at night, opened only at night.

The witch exchanged it with her own spell slipped inside the bottle. They swapped containers and went their own way. The king made the queen drink what the witch had conjured up, and to his surprise, it worked truly as a charm.

But the witch was enraged. The king had given her a fake sample; he didn’t fulfill his promise. But now that the spell was drunk by the queen, it was practically impossible to change it or take it back. It was risky to go to Byungmi alone for she would be hunted and she would be killed---it was in the laws after all.

The king was disappointed after nine months in wait to see that he would be having a princess instead. In much luck, after another year, the queen was conceiving. It would seem he was already blessed when a boy came into their life. This was the time where the witch would begin her revenge.

Understanding that it was the King’s happiness, she purposely left the forest and took a small visit to his majesty. The whole kingdom was in celebration because of the birth of the next heir, unmindful that a witch disguised herself as one of the princess’s nurses, hurriedly running through the hallways and up to the baby’s quarters. Such an angelic baby, too bad she would have to raise him to become the most powerful living alive. He would overthrow his kingdom; he would kill every person in Byungmi.

As she was about to leave the nursery, by the doorway was the king’s two-year-old daughter, ready to tell the world of what she saw. Surprised, the girl kept quiet as instructed by the witch, and then she disappeared into dust, like magic along with the prince. The young girl began crying, attracting attention as she pointed at the crib. She was asked what the thief looked like. The little girl with little vocabulary explained that she was dark and wore a cloak.

They alarmed everyone of this devastating tragedy, now all in search for the kidnapper in mere seconds of the misfortune.

But the witch’s powers were weakening, and she found herself appearing in the little streets where the lowerclassmen stayed and celebrated the birth of the prince in their own little way. Changing disguises into her old self, she was running faster and faster, an alarm of horror was spread throughout every lane and alley. In quick haste of hiding back to her territory, the witch abandoned her initial plan, leaving the child on the nearest porch where she knocked, and then quickly disappeared.

An old man a blacksmith opened the door. Worried that the child might catch a cold, he carried it in the house, to his wife who was also frustrated upon seeing the boy. They were going to close their shop and they were going to move to another kingdom through the night.

Using much of her powers from transforming from one face to another, her health had weakened, which had been the alibi of her death.

And ever since then, the prince was nowhere to be found. In another year, the queen had given birth to the last heir, a daughter as gorgeous as all the pearls under the sea. After which, her highness died due to an incurable disease. The blacksmith and his family, along with that child moved to another kingdom, to Sangdokchi
