Interchangeables
I Know EnglishThis chapter, we'll tackle the annoying words that are commonly interchanged. And no, it doesn't mean you can substitute one for the other.
1. "Your" and "You're"
"Your" is a possessive pronoun, just like "Mine," "His," and "Hers." It connotes ownership.
"You're" is a contraction of the words "You are." [Just like a shortcut.]
Examples: Kyuhyun's bag --> Your bag
You are crazy --> You're crazy
Wrong examples: Your cute --> This should be "You are cute."
You're mother --> This should be "Your mother."
2. "Their," "They're," and "There"
"Their" is a possessive pronoun, as explained above.
"They're" is a contraction of the words "They are."
"There" pertains to a place, like "There she goes," or "He's in the closet over there."
3. "Were," "We're," and "Where"
"We're" is a contraction of the words "We are."
"Were" is a verb, plural as a past tense of the word "be," and singular when used with the word "you."
"Where" pertains to a place.
Examples: We're here --> We are here
You were there.
Sungyeol and L were singing. --> Sungyeol and L will be singing. (future tense)
Were are you--> Where are you?
I'll add more when I think of them... [As I read...]
