Chapter 9
Stephanie cowered beside his body, her arms wrapped around her knees and rocking back and forth. The tears in her eyes gathered until they dragged down her red cheeks. How long was it since she sat there crying? Were there any tears left for her to cry? Did she even have a voice left to call for help? Was there even any use to call for help? Was he even alive? She pushed herself up and hovered over herself over his figure. She was surprised to see him staring back at her. For a while that's all they did, stare at each other. Searching each other's eyes for what was to come to them. Only, reality smacked her in the face when he smiled at her. His teeth was covered in blood.
"Idiot, how can you even smile at a time like this? Why didn't you tell me you were alive? I could have called for help! Why would you do this for me? How could you even-" She started, but stopped to watch him. She saw the struggle he was going through to do that action and stopped what she was saying.
His trembling hand reached up and brushed her tears away, "Stephanie don't feel guilty for what I've done. I did it because I wanted to keep you safe."
"I never asked for you to do this for me!" She became frustrated and stood up. She started to pace, her hands occasionally ruffling her hair. Once she heard him cough she rushed over to his side, anxious to see what his condition was. "Where does it hurt? Tell me what I can do to make the pain go away." She whispered, afraid to break him even with just a single breath of ther voice. She poked several places and after each poke a groan was earned.
"Everywhere. It hurts everywhere Stephanie. However not even these wounds can compare to what I feel inside right now."
Stephanie paused and stared at him, her lips trembling, "you know I'd do anything to turn back time right? Please... I am already regretting what I did and that punishment will haunt me everyday unless you stay awake!" Her tears had stopped merely because she ran out. At least, she thought she did...
