“I’m famished!” Sungyeol almost wailed as we step out of the hotel’s convention room. I chuckled at him. I am famished too.
Mrs. Byun told us that there’s some convention that’s happening today at the nearby hotel about coffee. She made us go promising that they will be alright filling our shoes at the café. Sungyeol and I obliged. Who’s the best to go to this some kind of convention but the barista and manager, right?
Sungyeol and I made a great team. At the convention there are some people who brought coffee beans from different parts of the world. At times, Sungyeol will taste it then I will be the one who’ll write down what his thoughts about those are. Too bitter, quite sweet, best for Cappuccino.. I’ll jot it all down. Sometimes he let me taste it too. Being the perfect gentleman that he is, he’ll taste it first so that he’ll tell me what tang I should be expecting.
I enjoyed the convention so much because of him.
Lunch break came. We both decided to eat at the restaurant inside the famous and fabulous hotel.
“I heard they’re famous for lobsters,” he joked making my stomach yearn more for food.
“Stop it. You’re getting me hungrier,” I pouted making him chuckle.
“Sorry.” He then held on to my wrist and pulled me inside the restaurant.
As we were scanning for an empty table inside, I saw a devastating scene.
Junhyung.
Hara.
Junhyung with Hara.
It was as if my heart was squeezed and beaten to a pulp inside my chest. I can’t.. I can’t breathe.
“What’s your dream proposal?” Junhyung asked me out of the blue as we sat side by side on the couch at his living room while watching a movie we don’t really spare attention to. Being with each other’s side is already enough. More than enough.
“Dream proposal? Hmm.. A surprise one.”
He laughed. “Any hints of what you want me to do?” he asked some more. My heart’s beating so excitedly. Is he planning to propose to me? I pried a t him.
“What?”
I looked back at the television. “Nothing.”
Silence then filled the room.
“Aside from you popping the question, I want it to be in a restaurant we both love. I want it to be at lunch.”
“Not dinner?” he asked.
“Not dinner,” I repeated.
“Why?” He then hugged me from my side. His cheeks resting on my left shoulder. His warmth enveloping me.
“Just because,” I smiled.
“Jaein?” Sungyeol shook my shoulder. I turned my gaze at him. Still dazed, I turn it back at Junhyung and Hara. Sungyeol followed the direction of my stare.
All of a sudden, Junhyung showed Hara a ring.
I almost fainted. I stepped back but lost my balance. Sungyeol held on to me before I could fall on the ground.
“Jaein, are you alright? Jaein?”
He proposed to Hara.
At lunch.
“Can we get out of here?” I asked Sungyeol trying my best to look up at him while fighting back my tears. I cannot breathe normally. I felt like I’m trapped in a room without oxygen. My sight’s dimming. There’s a lump in my throat that’s choking me. I wanted to break down.
“Sure. Let’s go,” Sungyeol led the way out of the hotel.
