I Regretted Leaving You

"Omma! Why are you doing this?" I threw my hands up in the air in front of her. We were in the kitchen and she was sitting
at the table mixing kimchi up in a bowl. I paced back and forth in the kitchen trying to collect my thoughts.
Omma looked up at me. "Jae In-ah. I'm only doing this for your own good." She looked back down and continued mixing.
I put my hands on my waist and stuck my chin out. "B-b-bwo?!"  I stuttered. "For my own good? Omma!"
"Bwoya?!" Omma shouted and looked back at me with a flustered look.
"Omma! I'm 21 already, you can't be setting me up on blind dates at this age!"
"Yah! What is that tone of yours?!"
Omma shouted again and stood up from her chair.
I sighed and realized I wasn't speaking properly to her. I slumped down onto a chair that was next to hers and she sat down
as well and continued mixing. I sat there watching her; thinking of what I should say next. After a moment of silence I spoke up again.
"Omma." I said, this time in a calmer voice.
"Mmm?" Omma murmed without looking up from the bowl.
I slowly pulled the bowl of kimchi away from her so she could focus on what I was saying.
"Ah wae?"
"Omma. Putting me up for blind dates isn't for my own good. You just may think it is. You didn't even ask me if I wanted
to go out yet."
"Jae In-ah."
She said in a soothing voice. She pulled the bowl of kimchi towards her again and continued mixing. "Just go on this
one date okay? There's nothing wrong with going on a blind date at your age. Love comes to people at any sort of age. I'm sure

you'll enjoy yourself. You'll thank me later."
"Ommmmmmmaaaaa." I whined and rolled my eyes. Omma always had these dumb quotes about love that she was always
giving me. Sadly, since I never had a boyfriend before, she thought that since I was already 21 I should have a man in my life
already. I slouched on the table and covered my head with my hands.
"Besides, I already set up a date today."
"You what?!"
I bolted up from my chair and stared at Omma.
"Your date happens to be in one hour from now." Omma looked up at me with a smile on her face.
"Omma!! Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I pushed my chair back and ran from the kitchen and headed for the stairs.
"Jae In-ah!" Omma called out.
"Ah wae?!" I yelled back.
"Odie ka?!" Omma walked out from the kitchen.
"To get changed!" I ran up the stairs and approached the door to my room.
"I thought you didn't care about the date!" Omma came up to the stairs, with one hand on her hip and the other on the hand rail.
"Well I don't want him thinking that I look poor!" I yelled across my shoulder before closing the door behind me.
"Jae In-ah!" I heard Omma yell out again.
"Bwoya?!" I yelled as I opened the door.
"I'm taking the car to go see your Aunt tonight so you'll have to take the bus!"
My eyes widened and I ran to the rain in front of me and leaned over it. "Omma!!" I yelled back but she had already walked back
to the kitchen.
"Its fine! Just ask him to drop you off!" I heard her yell from the kitchen.
"I don't believe this." I rolled my eyes and walked back into my room. I swear I could hear Omma chukling downstairs and saying
something. But I had already closed the door. Ugh. I had already agreed to this and now I was regretting it.
