“Tell me, why did you choose to be a murderer?”

Himchan presses his lips together and closes his eyes, listening to the humming of the air conditioner. The cramped room is cold and his fingers are numbing. He can hear the police officer sighing in frustration after a few seconds of silence.

“You don’t wanna talk?”

Himchan doesn’t talk or move. He doesn’t feel like doing so.

The police officer gets up from his seat and grabs Himchan by the collar, gritting his teeth to prevent himself from cursing. They’ve been in the room for 6 hours straight and it is depressing to talk to someone who refuses to respond. With a grunt, the police officer slams Himchan to the wall and shouts at him.

“Tell me now, Kim Himchan! Why did you kill? For fun? For revenge?”

Himchan opens his eyes and stares at the police officer silently, his mouth twitching slightly as tears roll down his cheeks. The wall of the room is cold. He can feel it despite the thickness of his sweater. It’s cold, just like the coldness he felt when he wrapped his fingers around his brother’s neck. He lets out a weak sob when he thinks of his brother. Then he drops his gaze to the tiled floor, his shoulders sagging.

“Because I didn’t want to be a bad person…”
