"Mom, I'm off to school!" I shouted into the quiet house where I knew my mother was still sleeping. I simply had to make sure she heard me on my way out, and possibly feel a little guilty for not getting her lazy out of bed to see me off to my very first day of high school.

I understand if she would be upset that she and appa aren't together anymore, but that doesn't mean that she should ignore the only family member she has left- that's right, me. I'm not going to know anyone at this new school, so obviously I'm not too psyched about going there, but as long as it's better than last year then I'm sure I will be fine. 

Last year was not something I'd like to revisit anytime soon. Not only did I emerge from that incident without any remaining friends, but I also developed a certain sense of self-hatred.  It would be better for everyone if I could just put it in the past and start a new life this year at my new school, so that's what I'm going to do. Not that I'm happy about it. 

I walked slowly along the clean sidewalk, grimacing as I pulled my thick winter jacket closer over my body. I hate the winter. Nothing good ever happens around this time of the year, which is why I was slightly angered when I heard happy, lighthearted laughter coming from a group of boys on the other side of the street, walking the same direction I was.

All 5 of the boys wore the same uniform, which also matched the one I had on. Classmates? Maybe I should befriend them... But they all look so close to one another already, I would probably just be imposing.

But one of the boys caught my eye and I immediately found myself unable to draw my gaze away. He was flawless. Every one of his features shone brightly through the dark winter morning- his sparkling eyes, dazzling smile, perfect nose, pink lips, pale skin, and oh god his hair. This boy was like no other...
