A common wonder about the nature of my species is the question of why we must do what we do. We must drink the blood of mortals because we make none ourselves. Our bone marrows are too strong, the muscle too thick for red blood cells to even form. To top it off, the heart doesn't beat, so we must force the blood to our limbs with our minds, hence the telekinesis adaptation to my species in the eighteenth century.

So naturally, when something does make our hearts beat, we tended to crave it, need it, fall for it. If our heart beat, that was a step closer to healing. If our heart beat, then our bone marrows might actually function.
