"Good morning...Amber."
At the sound of her name, the girl stiffened and slowly looked up from her work to look at the man she hadn't talked to in half a year. She took in his ever trendy fashion, street style with a bit of his own personality thrown in, something that made the style uniquely his. He looked the same too, even if the currently nervous smile gracing his lips was only a fraction of his usual wide, gummy smile. Sometimes, it was so easy to forget that time stops for no one, and the only hints were the baggy eyes that spoke of sleep deprivation and the stubble on the chin and hair that flopped down over the eyes. Amber took it all in, and understood more than anyone else what he had put himself through since they went their own ways. She knew, because she put herself through the same.
Waking up was slowly getting easier, even if falling asleep at a decent hour was still difficult. They accounted for the dark rings under eyes that even makeup couldn't hope to cover. Work productivity was starting to improve, and her life was piecing itself back together. It was still difficult, and she often woke up missing his presence. It was ridiculous, it was pathetic, it was needy. But she had gotten so used to him just being there that she no longer knew how to function without him.
And so when she looked at him now, she simply did not know how to feel. Anger and hurt were the first emotions she felt. But then they faded away into a strong feeling of guilt that twisted her heart, her pathetic little heart that still beat fast for him. It was like it knew he was the one, and she was in strict denial because of what happened half a year ago. It was a stupid argument, and she knew it. And she half suspected that he knew too, and he was here to make up for things.
