Keeping the Memories Alive
Description
As a person gets older, kids grow up, things change, and loved ones pass on...
We usually think we know what's going in our grandparents' heads as the end gets closer and closer,
but do we really know what it's like?
A/N: This one-shot is almost entirely based on my grandparents. I went home this past weekend to visit one because he fell and we had to move him into a home with assisted living. Watching him go through the move was really hard because he doesn't want to leave and it was quite emotional. To get it all out, I decided to write a one-shot about it.
My grandma died of Alzheimer's in 2010 and while she died in a nursing home, the story mentions how she really died years before. For those of you who don't know, Alzheimer's kills brain cells in mass numbers over time until your entire body shuts down. My grandpa took care of her for years with her having no idea who he was and it really took a toll on him. All of these things are mentioned in here in various places.
I apologize if this gets too complicated to follow.
