Spaces In Between

Description

“Our time will come too…it’s just a matter of when.”

Foreword

Note: PLEASE make sure you read the author's note at the end of the foreword.

A hospital room, neutrally scented with the ever so calm glow of the sunset illuminating its interior.

A woman, resting her eyes in a superficial slumber as her hands rested upon her enlarged belly with the presence of a new life to be born.

This was what the doctor (or so we say) had seen as he had entered the room ever so silently as to not wake up the woman. Taking a few more quiet steps, he now stood at the edge of her bed, watching the woman in her mid twenties inhale and exhale rhythmically, her head turned away from his gaze just slightly. His hands were in their respective pockets in the pair of slacks he was wearing, seemingly in an internal debate with himself as to decide on what to do next, but before long, he made his way over to the left side of the bed, looking at the woman in an almost apologetic look before a solemn expression had taken over as the doctor brought his right hand a couple of centimeters above the woman’s stomach, concentrating his focus upon that hand.

A small glow, such as a small source of light had come out of the palm of his hand. The small “piece” of light slowly descended into the confines of the woman’s womb, the woman’s stomach glowing just slightly as it entered, though the glow faded in a matter of seconds. In a similar manner, he brought his left hand over the woman’s forehead, and yet again, another bright shining light had descended slowly into the woman’s forehead, the skin glowing for a couple of seconds before fading back to its original color.

A sigh of relief escaped the doctor’s lips, and with a snap of his fingers, his eyes suddenly closed as he fainted, though his head colliding with the hard tiled floor had brought him back to his senses, as well as waking the woman up. Her eyes fluttered open to be greeted by the rather handsome looking doctor on floor, his hand on the side of his forehead as if trying to ease some pain.

“Dr. Kim…” she began, “What are you doing here?”

Suddenly, the doctor’s eyes widened as he looked at his surroundings, his head darting in every possible direction around him.

“Dr. Kim…” the woman began once more, “Are you alright?” How ironic, the patient asking the medical professional about his health, though the doctor did not think of this at that moment.

“Why y-yes…yes!” he suddenly exclaimed, though his voice dropped back down into a more formal style that was more well suited for his position. “Well, anyway Mrs. Han, I just finished checking your vitals and you seem to be set. You can be discharged early tomorrow, now if you’ll excuse me.” With that, the doctor walked out the doorway in an attempted to redeem his stature.

Still slightly confused, the woman shrugged off what she had just encountered and went back to her peaceful rest.

A spherical structure, shrouded in darkness with small bits of light struggling to surpass its barriers had condensed into a ball of gray and white, almost in the manner of a soccer ball but not as uniform. Shocks of electrical currents traveled along the surface of this ball of gray as well as sudden spurs of fire stabbed through its cloaking aura and traveled in a nearly majestic, circular pattern into the anoxic zone of space before it faded with the lack of oxygen to feed its never ending hunger.

Strange little creatures with black and white wings circled this sphere, the dichotomous hues striking its opposing color with every intersection in their paths. Their movements were random and unpredictable, the only contradiction being that each kept aiming for the opposing side until one fell into the abysmal gray ball beneath them.

‘Angels…Demons…so then-’

A zoom into the sphere, the point of view panning along a surface of water with torrential storms corrupting its surface. Off to the side, we see a piece of land, artificial in nature with its metal casing, being terrorized by the tsunami-like waves striking against the walls of the edifices that stood upon it. It was like a domino effect, one crashing building hitting against another, each crumbling to ruins after another striking.

‘This was…Earth?’

Another zoom. Along a barren wasteland, angels and demons flew swiftly above the surface of the Earth, all heading towards one general area. An immense light radiated from this region which the angels fought to protect while the demons constantly charged towards the light like bullets attempted to penetrate through a seemingly invincible barrier. Most of these dark creatures disintegrated to ashes in their attempts, though the ones that had managed to pass through were easily taken care of by some of the angels.

In the very center of this light source that radiated upward in a cylindrical fashion were three beings. Two male and one female angelic being took their positions in the very center, the two men facing outward with solemn expressions not leaving their faces. Their wings extended to such extents that they nearly concealed the female in the center, though that seemed to be the purpose of doing so. This woman…this creature…this divine being was kneeled on the ground; eyes shear white as they glowed. Her form resonated with a divine aura as she traced a certain shape in midair right in front of her, the lines suddenly beginning to take forms with light as well.

‘Is that a…is that a cross?’

As if the young woman could literally pick it up, she took the lit cross in her hands and jammed it into the surface of the Earth, where it took life, expanded to at least a 4x6 meter rectangular area, the three beings all in the center of it.

This is it guys…

A young, female voice had echoed into the air, as if onlookers were meant to hear what she had just said.

The two young men at her sides looked at one another and nodded, suddenly breaking their protective stances and stepping inward even more, now concealing the entire woman’s figure in between their wings blinding with light. The air around them raged with terror, overflowing with black disparity and horror, the counter-visage of what was being witnessed at that moment. The two males closed their eyes, unclasping their fists as they let themselves levitate a few centimeters off the ground before they slowly converged into a single entity, all three souls and bodies coming together to form one being that even now, could not be distinguished through contour alone.

Four small, baby blue-lit extensions acted as arms and legs while a small circular blur atop the figure signified the head; her eyes conveying a beautiful shade of dark blue. The white wings upon her back just barely contrasted with the baby-blue, but enough to discern her wings from her body.

So it’s come to this…

Her voice seemed saddened, though still full of determinations as the tops of her eyes curved inward, definite anger raging through her. The dark blue shade of her eyes had vanished as she closed them, bringing her hands together and bowing her head to say those life-saving words.

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done…

Rushing towards her with violent velocity came The Fallen with its wings (originally angel wings) absent of their previously white feathers and permanently blackened with all the layers of soot collected from constant hellfire; eyes furious and red, filled with the deepest passions of hatred. Its single hand extended from the shadows in which it had cloaked itself in, holding the single blade that could slay any angel given the correct strike. This blade, gleaming with the satanic luster of pure onyx, was made purely out of sin.

Her eyes abruptly opened as her hands separated, extending to their full span to both her sides, the cross on the Earth below her brightening with even more light as it enlarged, as if to encapsulate the shadow in its tracks, which it had successfully done for the first few seconds, but failed to be of any more use.

However, it was time…

…thy will be done…

She repeated.

…on EARTH as it is in HEAVEN.

A surge of divine power descended down as a seamless strike of lightning outlined with a holy gradient that captured this darkness, torturing it to the point where agonizing screams would resonate above the decibel levels of the lightning shocking its core.

A slow pan around this scene, a zoom out…whitening…light blinding……nothing…

The woman immediately woke up after the conclusion of this…what was it? A dream? A vision?

She was clearly hyperventilating, and while doing so, she placed her hand against chest drenched with perspiration, the unmistakable look of horror on her face…

…and for some reason, she felt an odd sensation amongst her finger tips as she placed them atop her stomach…what was going on?

“First dream sequence completed…though couldn’t you have released from a different area? You almost blew your cover.”

“I suppose… Anyway, are you sure this is safe-”

“It’s the Father’s wishes. It’s finally time to end all of this.”

“But the humans-”

“Sometimes sacrifices have to be made. All is with God.”

“And what happens if…he…gets to her first?”

“Those genes are recessively instilled. It will take her a good twenty to twenty-four years before they will even be noticeable. When that time comes is when our legion shall watch over her the most, but ‘til then, all we can do is wait…and hope.”

“What about the other two? The ones from 6 and 7 years ago?”

“Their genes were more prominent, though a smaller insertion had been made with them. They will be informed in their duties soon enough, you need not worry.”

“But how will they meet her? How will they even know who she is? And how-”

“Your questions will be answered when that time comes. Just remember…all is with God.”

Everything was finally coming to an end…

A/N: I, Karlo, gladly present to you my new project "Spaces In Between."

As you all might have seen at the beginning of the foreword, I had practically begged you all to read this author's note, and this is why.

This story is very much involved with religious outlooks, specifically of Catholicism. If you do not believe in this type of faith, have some other negative thoughts about it, as well as just choose to ignore all things associated with religion overall (or even if you're of some other religious affiliation), I highly suggest that you don't continue reading, unless you just want to anyway.

This story incorporates the idea of an interplay between the sciences and religion, and if you have anything against that, same suggestion applies above.

Bashing will not be tolerated, and any comments instigating arguments over such stupid morality conflicts will automatically be deleted. Any discussions started in the comments section will be asked to move to walls respectively, please just comment on the story if you feel the desire to comment at all.

One last note, this is a story that I personally feel very much compelled to write, so if anything, please give me your thoughts on it, whether it be positive or negative.

-Karlo
