Foreword

After a day’s worth of shopping, it was finally time for you to head home. Shopping downtown in Seoul wasn’t the best idea for comfortably strolling around the mall, especially into the holiday season, but the deals here were way better than what they had back near your place. You were never a fan of crowds and busy streets, but a trip here once or twice a year wouldn’t hurt.

It was getting late; buying enough for all your friends and family took a lot longer than you thought. But you got them, and that was all that mattered. Now you can check Christmas gift shopping off your to-do list.

The only problem you had was the transportation back home. You had to commute here and back, and it was a pain. Now you had a ton of bags hanging from your arms to worry about too. But the afternoon was dying, so the number of people wandering around the streets had gone down quite a lot and you sigh in relief knowing that there was no need to push through anyone with these loads in your hands.

You roll your eyes remembering when they would call you the worst gift giver, since you were always one to repeat your gifts every year. Shopping wasn’t your forte, so you ended up making silly cards and attempts at giving them something handmade. But this time, you put twice as much effort as you always have to get them gifts they might actually adore.

You take a peek inside one of your bags as you walked and smile, “Loona’s going to love these shoes and that ba—”

You were stopped in your tracks when something was missing in one of the bags. Oh no, you frown, running your hand through the plastic in search for something, I forgot to get the bag!

You groan, suddenly remembering that you had put it aside when you went to pick up the shoe box from a higher shelf where you needed to be on your toes. You gasp.

I gotta get that quickly before the store closes—

You spun on your toes ready to run back to where you had just come from but only result in slamming right into a man’s body who had been trailing behind you. You ran into him so hard that your push managed to take him back a few steps, causing his sunglasses to slip off his face and his feet almost tripping over itself.

“Ah! Joeseonghamnida!” you plead, bowing several times before reaching down to pick up his sunglasses for him, “I’m so sorry I didn’t see you—”

You continued to bow but the sight of his face caught you by surprise, but before you could think another word, he had already grabbed a hold of your wrist and dragged you into the closest store nearby.

“Shh!” he hushes you, turning his head suspiciously as if he were on the lookout, “Don’t be loud!”

You were still confused about his reaction but you could only continue to apologize for your fault, “I’m sorry, I should have looked before I turned and ran so fast..”

“Look, you can’t— wait, what?”

You keep your blank stare, “I-I said I’m sorry about bumping into you so hard. I didn’t think anyone was behind me.”

He kept swiftly turning his head, looking like he was searching for something, but only the word “oh” could come out of his mouth.

Your body felt so stiff as you stared at him, unable to believe that the famous Kai from EXO was standing right in front of you. But you couldn’t make a sound. He was obviously trying to avoid any contact with fans in the streets, and you didn’t want to ruin his day even more.

But you couldn’t explain why the expression on his face was so confused.

You held out your hand to give him his sunglasses back, “Here’s your sunglasses.”

“Thanks..” his tone sounded so unsure, but you didn’t want to bother him with questions.

Better leave him alone before I irritate him, you thought, then slowly turn to walk right out of the store when your phone decided to ring.

JUKGO JEOGIGO,

SSAUGO OECHIGO,

 IGEON JEONJAENGI

 ANIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Damn! You stop in your tracks, ready to throw your phone at the wall. You answer the call, only to hear nothing from the other line.

“So you do know who I am,” you could feel his smirk from a meter behind you. There was no way you could escape this now.

There was nothing else you could do now but turn back to him with a stupid smile plastered on your face, “Heheh.. yeah.. I kind of…”

“That’s a reaction I’ve never seen from a fan before,” he snickers at your awkward actions, “I think that you’re the first one who hasn’t screamed in my face whenever they saw me.”

“I didn’t want to be like those people,” you explain, shying away from his stare, “I know you get those a lot so I didn’t want to bother you like they do.”

He shrugs his shoulders while he approached you, “Well, it comes with being an idol.”

You laugh a small laugh at the statement. It wasn’t such a happy thing to think about, but sadly it was true. You always wondered how they could keep up such an image even when their privacy had been taken away.

“So where were you headed anyway?” he breaks the silence, “You seemed to be in such a rush.”

“I forgot to pick up something from a store in the mall,” you sigh, “I wanted to go back and get it before it closed but I think I’m a bit late now..”

He glances at his watch. The stores were closing in the next five minutes, but he didn’t want you to leave unsatisfied after the comfort you had just given him.

“Are you in a rush to get home already?”

You shake your head with widened eyes, unsure of what he meant by the question.

“Wait with me until all the shops close then,” he grins, flashing his perfectly white teeth with his stunning smile, “I think I can pull a few strings for them to let us in when everyone else leaves. We can go get what you need, then how about having dinner with me after?”

“R-Really?” you gasp. There were no other words that processed in your brain. Just a dropped jaw, which he found to be adorable.

He puts on the shades and leads you out as the saleswoman gestures that the store was closing.

“Have you seen our latest interview?” he asks.

You nod as you caught up beside him.

He smiles at you again, “I wasn’t lying when I said I’d date a fan.”
