Looks May Be Deceiving

Looks May Be Deceiving

Sungmin dropped his torn backpack at the roof entrance as he slammed the door closed behind him, panting for breath as he leaned against the cool metal door. He was sick and tired of all the crap he had put up with and if he hadn't been brought up the right way he probably would have used at least one of the many martial arts abilities his parents had taught him. Not that all of that mattered anymore, he seriously couldn't be bothered with all of the drama they had going on around him anymore,. Was it because he looked easy? Did he really look that easy? Sungmin let out a frustrated scream before pushing off the door and taking quick and measured steps toward the edge of the roof and gripping the fence.

Looking at the ground below he let out a laugh as he watched the group that constantly bullied him walking out of the building. Turning away from the ant-like view of the people below, Sungmin took off the glasses he had been wearing since freshman year and placed them off to the side. The rooftop was always empty- he would know that, considering he always came up here for lunch to avoid his bullies.Closing his eyes for a moment, Sungmin focused his energy and took a stance, raising his arms so that they were bent at the elbows at his sides, he opened his eyes and looked straight ahead, his eyes sharp and focused.

He was completely oblivious to his surroundings as he allowed himself to start practicing his movements with abandon. His punches snapping into place, his kicks slicing through the air and his breathing was flawless as he turned and moved across the roof. Doing a 180-degree turn, Sungmin faced the fence and using the space he had did a front flip for the first time in a long time. Being slightly out of practice, he lost his footing upon landing and grabbed at the fence desperately, rattling the metallic enclosure as his breathing became more rapid from the thoughts that had suddenly accompanied his near-accident. He was oblivious to the slam of the door behind him opening until someone wrapped their arms around his torso and pulled him away from the edge.

"What do you think you're doing?" He heard the other person reprimanding him in a purely concerned manner, but his mind was elsewhere. What would have happened had he not caught the fence? Could the fence have truly supported his weight? The bolts and screws holding it in place looked so old and rusty. "Are you okay? Were you thinking of jumping what's wrong with you?" The other person continued fretting over Sungmin and he refused to respond until he heard the other person gasp, "S-Sungmin?"

That simple question had pulled Sungmin from his reverie, his eyes widening, he looked up at the person who had been fretting over him, "H-Hankyung?" He mumbled before pulling himself out of the other's grasp and making his way to where he had place his glasses earlier on, "W-what are you doing here?" Sungmin asked, his voice shaking, as he grabbed the fake frames and placed them on his face once again before facing Hankyung who had remained silent.

"You don't need those, do you?" Hankyung avoided Sungmin's question with one of his own.

"I... no, but you didn't answer-"

"Why do you wear them then?" Hankyung interjected, as he continued to stare at his classmate.

Sungmin averted his eyes from the other as he tried to think of a way to explain everything to the other, "At my old school I was bullied because I looked too feminine, so I transferred here the beginning of freshman year and to make it so that I wasn't too feminine, I wore these." Sungmin mumbled as he played with his fingers, not once looking up at the other as he waited for Hankyung to speak again.

"But- aren't you still being bullied? Maybe it wasn't because of how you looked you were being bullied." Hankyung reasoned, unconsciously stepping closer to the other, "Besides, I don't think you should purposely cover up a face like yours."

Hearing the other's words, Sungmin gasped and looked up at Hankyung, "W-what?"

"You have a beautiful face, Sungmin. Why would you cover it up?" Hankyung repeated, reaching out and taking Sungmin's glasses off his face once again, smiling softly at the other once the thick frames were in his hands.

"N-no, H-Hankyung, I-I need those!" Sungmin exclaimed, reaching for the fake glasses only for Hankyung to move them out of his reach, "W-what are you doing?" He nearly shouted as he stumbled forward, leaving only a few inches between them.

Hankyung gave a seemingly innocent smile as he held the glasses above his head and snapped the arms off, causing Sungmin to yelp, "You don't need these, Sungmin. You look amazing without them and I'll be darned if I let you wear these anymore."

Sungmin bit his lip as he stared at the broken frames, still painfully unaware as to exactly how close they were standing, he reached up for the broken item, "W-why does it matter to you?" He challenged as his hand grabbed and managed to catch hold of nothing but air.

Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Hankyung brought the broken frames down behind his back, "Do you even pay attention to those in the class around you? I mean beside those stupid bullies, do you really pay attention?" He spoke, smiling to himself as Sungmin single-mindedly followed the frames, pasting himself against Hankyung's torso as he reached  around the other, still failing to grab the glasses.

"I don't understand what you're saying." Sungmin defensively stated as he continued to grab at the glasses.

Sighing softly, Hankyung separated the broken pieces of the glasses between his hands and brought his hands back to his front, wrapping them around Sungmin's waist, "Èrbǎiwǔ*." He muttered softly, "I'm telling you to take a look at the people around you, like right now."  Blinking, Sungmin stood up straight and leaned back, only to meet Hankyung's arms.

"I'm looking, what do you want me to look at?" Sungmin responded, not completely sure he understood what Hankyung was insinuating.

"Wrong. You're just gazing- looking without seeing." Hankyung teased, wanting to see Sungmin's reaction, only to pout when all the other responded with was a repeat of his previous statement.

"Okay, what do you want me to see then?"

"Sungmin, seriously, we've been in the same class for three years already, please tell me you aren't that oblivious." Hankyung complained, his pout still present after he finished speaking.

Blushing, Sungmin averted his eyes once again as he tried to step away but failed, "I-I don't know what you want me to see, s-so why don't you j-just tell me?" He offered, he really didn't want to be looking too far into what Hankyung was saying.

"You mean it wasn't evident when I gave you the Valentine chocolates or the Christmas presents? Have you read the notes that I placed in your locker? Come on Sungmin, we're partnered together on every project- you can't tell me your so oblivious that you haven't noticed that I like you." Hankyung unexpectedly confessed to Sungmin, gasping when he realized what he said, he dropped his arms back to his side and looked away while Sungmin looked up at him. Both of them were now blushing: Hankyung from confessing and Sungmin from hearing the confession.

"Y-you really do like me?" Sungmin asked, his gaze fixed on Hankyung as he reached for the other's hand and took the pieces of his glasses and threw them to the side. Gently grasping Hankyung's hand, he gave it a squeeze, "Hankyung?"

Feeling the other squeeze his hand, Hankyung finally looked up, his gaze meeting Sungmin's. "Y-yeah. The reason they chase you around is because of me. They have friends and sisters that have crushes on me, but I turned them down because my eyes have been on you since the first day of classes." Hankyung admitted, "I-if you remember, they left you alone when you first started here, it was after the first girl, someone from the year ahead of us, confessed to me and I told her why I turned her down that they came after you. I'm sorry, Sungmin." He added, his gaze dropping again.

"Well I guess I know why you came up here then, you've been secretly watching from afar, haven't you? Those times that I had been locked in a closet or a bathroom stall-you freed me, right?" Sungmin smiled brightly as Hankyung gave a slow nod, "Well then, I think you deserve a reward for saving me rather than being admonished for being their reason for bullying, right?"

Surprised, Hankyung looked up at Sungmin who simply leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the other's cheek, "S-Sungmin? D-does this mean...?"

"Hey, you've been my secret savior, I can't just turn my back on someone as nice as you, can I? But call me an idiot in any language again, and I just might smack you." Sungmin teased with a slight wink, "Also, you owe me for those glasses, they came from my allowance money!"

"How about I take you on a date for them?" Hankyung offered, feeling confident once again.

"Hmmm, I guess that will do." Sungmin stated with a nod as he glanced at Hankyung's other hand, "You can get rid of that, by the way."

Hankyung threw the other half of the broken glasses, "You better not wear fake glasses ever again."

Pouting slightly, Sungmin poked Hankyung's cheek, "I'll wear whatever I want and you'll love it or..."

"Or what?"

"Or you won't get any kisses." Sungmin decided, sticking his tongue out before running over to his abandoned backpack and slinging it over his shoulder.

Laughing, Hankyung quickly followed after him, wrapping an arm around Sungmin's waist he stopped the other, "In order for that threat to work I need a kiss first." He teased before leaning in and gently pressing his lips to Sungmin's who hesitated before responding to the gentle kiss.

Pulling back first, Hankyung reached for the door and pulled it open before leading Sungmin through the door and down the steps, their hands naturally coming together with their fingers intertwined. When they finally reached the bottom of the steps, Sungmin turned to Hankyung, "Does this mean we're official?"

"Only if you say you want to be." Hankyung nervously decided.

"If I say yes, can I have a kiss?" Sungmin asked, blushing.

"I'll see that as a yes in itself." Came Hankyung's reply before he pulled Sungmin closer and happily pressed their lips together for the second time that day.

*Èrbǎiwǔ or 二百五 can be translated literally to mean 250 but it is also slang for "Idiot." (A/N: I just liked the sound of this option over all of the others.)
