Confession

Confession

Today was the day. It might seem like just any ordinary day for any other person but it wasn’t at least not for Seunghyun. He took a deep breath for today would be the day he would confess his love to his crush of two years.  In a way, it was a bit of a spur of a moment thing. The school year was ending and he had nothing left to lose, well almost nothing but what he had to lose wasn’t a big deal.

Staring down the hallway full of students, Seunghyun’s eyes immediately found her, Choi Junhee or Juniel as she is usually called. But in his mind she was his princess. She was walking through the hallway in his direction to her next class. As she came closer, Seunghyun started to walk towards her and was just close enough to start a conversation when her friend Choa appeared and stole Juniel away. Seunghyun sighed as he watched the two girls walk away before proceeding to his first class of the day. His morning classes passed smoothly but not fast enough for Seunghyun. By lunch, his anxiety was obvious. His friends and band mates Jonghun, Hongki, Jaejin and Minhwan had started to for being so unconfident. It was an out of the ordinary sight to see Seunghyun like this. As a result, it was only natural for them for them to bother and urge Seunghyun to try and confess later that day, just as he was cementing the idea that he would try and obtain the courage another day. Unfortunately for Seunghyun, he had loudmouths for friends and, although the group sat in an empty classroom for lunch, from the corner of his eye he saw the blond head of Juniel’s friend Choa peeking inside.

“Thanks for support guys,” He said in a semi-sarcastic voice before turning his attention to the person who had the potential to make or break his confession, “Come on in Choa, you might as well say what you think now.”

Choa slowly shuffled in with her head down. “I’m sorry Seunghyun,” Choa said sheepishly, “I didn’t mean to overhear.”

“It’s okay Choa, it’s not your fault those guys are loud mouths,” Seunghyun replied pointing to his friends. This resulted in a chorus of, “Hey!” and “We’re right here!”’s. The light carefree feel the group gave Choa the bravery to ask, “Just curious, but how are you planning on confessing to Juniel, Seunghyun?” Seunghyun’s eyebrows started to furrow at Choa’s question. He hadn’t thought of planning some romantic, over the top confession. Choa seemed to realize this from his lack of an answer and her disappointment showed clearly on her face.

“Do girls usually like that sort of thing?” Seunghyun asked Choa.

“Mhm,” replied everyone around him.

“Oh…”

Meanwhile in the cafeteria, Juniel was looking for Choa. It was unusual that Choa hadn’t come back already. She had told Juniel and Jimin that she was just going to the bathroom and that was at the beginning of lunch, which was nearly over now.

“Hey Jimin, did Choa say that she had something to do during lunch?” Juniel asked across the table.

“Not that I know of, but it is pretty odd that Choa isn’t here right now, she’s usually always here to brightening the atmosphere,” Jimin took a pause before adding, “ By the way, Juniel, did you hear that a guy is planning on confessing that he likes you and asking you on a date?”

“Really? Do you know who it is?” Juniel asked.

“I don’t know but I can guess who you hope it is,” Juniel smiled shyly, Jimin would know who she hoped it would be.

Song Seunghyun, guitarist, rapper and sometimes vocalist of FTISLAND, the school’s most popular band. Although the idea that he could like her and know of her existence felt farfetched to Juniel, she could dream couldn’t she?  He was popular, friendly and had lots of admirers. In a way Seunghyun was farther from her than a celebrity, at least if he was a celebrity she could announce her admiration freely but instead he was an upper classman and that sort of thing would just draw attention and embarrassment to her.

Pushing the thought of that someone being Seunghyun away, Juniel started to gather Choa’s things so that she could take them to Choa’s next class. Juniel was nearly done putting everything into Choa’s backpack when Choa returned to the cafeteria.

“Juniel! Jimin! Sorry I took so long. I was unexpectedly held up,”

“Oh it’s okay Choa,” Juniel replied.

“Yeah although if you can, try to text us next time, this little one was starting to get worried about you,” Jimin added.

“Jimin!” Juniel exclaimed before asking, “But what held you up?”

“It’s nothing important,” Choa replied.

The rest of the day passed quickly and soon the school day was over. Like she always did, Juniel still needed to head for the music room to pick up her guitar before going home. But since it was still early, Juniel, Jimin, Choa and some of their other friends stayed at school to chat for a while. That was until Choa said, “Hey I have something I need to do, I’ll see you guys later okay?” before running off. The group waved farewell to Choa. With her leave, everyone else started on their way home.  Juniel was left with Jimin and the two talked as they made their way to the music room where Juniel stored her guitar. But then Jimin remembered that she forgotten to do something important and left Juniel to get her guitar.

“Well that was a bit unusual,” Juniel thought to herself but the unusual events didn’t end there.  As Juniel made her way to the school’s music room, she heard Choa’s voice mixed in with several guys. She recognized the voices as the guys of FTISLAND but was unable to hear what they were saying.

“What Choa doing with them,” Juniel wondered. She knew that Choa wasn’t particularly close to any of them. She knew that they would know who Choa was though since Choa was well known in the school for being a good singer, but to be hanging out with them was something on a completely different level.

As Juniel kept walking, she realized that she could hear the voices better as she approached the music room. When she stopped in front of the music room, Juniel was surprised to find Choa, Jimin and FTISLAND inside.

“Well this just gets odder and odder,” Juniel thought to herself, “its one thing to just be Choa but Jimin too? And in the music room? How did I not see them on my way here? I was just with Jimin too…”

They didn’t seem to notice her arrival so Juniel knocked on the side of the doorway.

“Hi,” she greeted as she walked in and grabbed her guitar from the cabinet that she stored it in. All talking inside the room stopped awkwardly when everyone had caught site of Juniel.

At the site of Juniel, Seunghyun froze. This was probably one of the worst times for her to show up. There was no way he could confess to her at the current moment and to make matters worse that was exactly what everyone had been talking about before she arrived. Seunghyun mentally groaned at his stupidity in not closing the door.

“Don’t stop talking for my sake, continue please.” Juniel said.

“Hi Juniel,” Choa said.

“What are you guys up to?” Juniel asked.

“Oh um Jonghun was assigned to be my instrument player for dance class and he brought the entire group so tada,” Choa explained before nudging Jimin to say something.

“Minhwan’s my partner for the project so…”Jimin trailed off.

“Ah, I see. Okay see you two tomorrow. Bye!” Juniel said as she left the room.

Once Seunghyun was sure that Juniel was gone, he let out a deep breath. For some reason he felt more hesitant about confessing now than he had been in the morning.

“Nice lie Choa,” Jonghun commented.

“Thanks, it should give us enough time to brainstorm something for that hopeless mess,” Choa replied pointed at Seunghyun.

“I’m not that hopeless!”

“Keep telling yourself that,” Hongki remarked.

A week passed with Choa and Jimin spending a lot of time with the FTISLAND boys to help Seunghyun prepare the picture perfect confession. All the plans for the confession were making Seunghyun uncomfortable. It all felt a bit over the top and it was also kind of embarrassing but nevertheless all the preparations were finished and the day had arrived.

In the hallway, Juniel was putting away her books into her locker when she saw a note fall to the ground.

Dear Juniel,

Please meet me in room 21 during lunch.

Your Secret Admirer

Juniel stared at the words on the note.  Jimin had given her a heads up about something like this but she hadn’t really thought that it would happen. She couldn’t think of anyone that would be her secret admirer.  While she was thinking, someone tapped her shoulder. Juniel turned around to be handed a bouquet of flowers by someone who left too quickly for her to get a good look and identify the person. In the bouquet was a card with the message, “Beautiful flowers for a beautiful lady, Your Secret Admirer.”  Juniel couldn’t help but giggle a little at the cheesiness of the card. She placed the bouquet in her locker before walking to her first period class. Juniel was waiting for Choa and Jimin to show up and help her predict who it could be but by the time they arrived, class had started.  Class seemed to drag on and on causing Juniel’s concentration to be relatively nonexistence.  When the bell rang for lunch, Juniel rushed over to Jimin and Choa.

“Jimin! Choa! I need help!” Jimin and Choa exchanged glances knowing what was going on.

“What’s up?” Choa asked.

“Earlier I found a note saying to meet I should meet my secret admirer. He also set a bouquet of flowers which was lovely but that’s not the point. Should I meet this person? I didn’t think I was that scary that someone couldn’t meet me face to face.  But should I?”

The two smiled at Juniel cutely freaking out before encouraging her to go. They reasoned that there was nothing for Juniel to lose. With their reassurance, Juniel started her way towards the class room that she was supposed to meet her secret admirer.

As Juniel approached the classroom, she could hear a faint voice from inside the room. She wasn’t sure if that was comforting or not given the circumstance. Before she knew it, Juniel was standing in front of the slightly open door and only needed to push it open.  Juniel took a deep breath before opening the door. The moment that she did she was met with the sound of FTISLAND’s song I Confess. It was different from how it was usually played. Instead of the entire band there was only a guitar and the sound of Seunghyun singing.

I now confess my heart to you
only heaven knows my heart
at the thought of telling you the truth that I’ve kept so preciously

As Seunghyun sang, Juniel wasn’t sure how to feel or act. This was Song Seunghyun. The guy she was crush on for a while. She never thought that he really knew who she was much less like her. Seunghyun finished singing and looked at Juniel hoping for some sort of reaction but Juniel was still fairly frozen by the doorway. Her lack of reaction made Seunghyun nervous. He wasn’t sure what Juniel was thinking and it his worries were just making him tenser. Choa hinted that the person Juniel liked was in FTISLAND but she wouldn’t reveal who. Her reasoning, it wasn’t her place to say, plus it wouldn’t be fun if she just told him.

Seeing as Juniel had yet to react, Seunghyun put his guitar down to the side of the chair that he had been sitting on and started to walk toward her. Unfortunately for Seunghyun, he didn’t have the best balance in the world and because of his nervousness, it was even worse.  In a split second Seunghyun went from coolly walking to Juniel to being awkwardly splayed on the ground in front of Juniel. Seeing Seunghyun fall slipped Juniel out of her revere.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Seunghyun replied. The embarrassment that he felt was insurmountable and he couldn’t help but feel that he had just screwing up everything.

In a last ditch attempt to save the last ounce of his dignity, Seunghyun knelt in front of Juniel with one hand behind his back and asked, “Will you go out on a date with me?” Seunghyun then held out the hand he had kept behind his back to give Juniel flower he had left on the other side of the room.  Juniel stared at his hand, confused as to what Seunghyun was doing only to follow Seunghyun’s gaze across the room. Seeing the mistake, Juniel couldn’t help but laugh.

Seunghyun is just too cute” Juniel thought to herself.

Seunghyun wasn’t sure how to react to Juniel’s laughter. Did it mean a yes or a no? Once Juniel’s giggles had died down, Juniel looked at Seunghyun and with a sweet smile she replied, “I’d love to.”

Seunghyun hadn’t figured out what to do once Juniel accepted but a feeling of joy filled him. It made him want to just yell to the world that he’d gotten a date with Juniel despite how ridiculous it might appear to everyone else. A smile spread on his face causing one to rise from her and the two ended up in laughing knowing that this might be the start of something new.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OKAY I’M SORRY, this was supposed to be done in February but took till June…this is why I’m not allowed to have planned finish dates. It doesn’t end up on time unless it’s homework.  So the snip-it of I Confess lyrics was translated by fairladykelly (1takekk) @loveft-i.net. I hope you enjoyed the one-shot and dang this took a while. And do you know that I was laughing writing that last line of the story? Well if you didn’t well now you know.
