Rainy Day

Description

Oh no, not again you think to yourself as you run to the nearest bus stop. Just as you reach the shelter, the rain comes down even harder. But the damage from your desperate run to shelter is already done: you are soaked to the bone and freezing cold.

After a few minutes spent shivering on the bench, you notice a dark figure running towards you. Your heart clenches up. I have nowhere to run. But as the shape comes closer, you begin to recognize it. It’s Moon Jongup from class 2. Although you have never met him before, you have heard about him from your good friend, Zelo.

“Hey.” He says breathlessly as he plops down on the opposite side of the bench.

“Hello.” You repsond politely. Now that you are seeing him up close, you can tell how handsome he is. Luckily it was too cold for the blush in your cheeks to be blatantly obvious.

The two of you sit in a long and uncomfortable silence. The awkward tension was too high to bear. He played with his hands, and looked around anywhere but at you. Your first instinct was to pull out your IPod, but you quickly remember that that you left in on your desk at home that morning.

“Uh..mmm-Achoo!” Just as you were about to speak, you sneeze. Perfect timing you think sarcastically to yourself.

Jongup, startled by the sneeze, looks up. He looks at you as if you’ve suddenly appeared here from thin air. It was as if he was just now aware that you were soaked and trembling from the cold.

“You’re shaking.” He slides a little closer to you.

“I think I’ll be okay though.” You glance at him, but can’t bring yourself to look him in the eye.

He slides a little closer and looks at you. Those five seconds seem like an eternity.

He gets up suddenly and s his jacket. You look up at him with questioning eyes, which for the first time, meet his.

In one graceful movement, he blankets his jacket over your shoulders.

Sitting down, he adjusts it slowly and raises his eyes to yours. You weren’t sure if your mouth was hanging open or if your cheeks were bright red, but you hoped that they weren’t.

You continue to gaze at each other, suddenly forgetting the world around you, and inch closer and closer to each other.

The honk of the bus startles both of you.

“Are you lovebirds getting in?” The chubby bus driver laughs.

Both of you, bright red and full of embarrassment, get onto the bus. In your awkward hurry, you choose a seat as far from Jongup as possible. He doesn’t seem to notice, as he too is flustered with embarrassment.

The rain clears as Jongup reaches his stop. As the bus leaves, you look out the window. He watches the bus pass by, and upon seeing you in the window, smiles widely. You can’t help smiling either.

Now staring at the empty road, you reach into your pockets for a stick of gum. Feeling unfamiliar, you look down. In your daze you had forgotten you were still wearing Jongup’s jacket. You look up and grin. At least I have an excuse to see him again tomorrow.

Foreword

This story was originally supposed to be a short anecdote. But I was asked if there would be a sequel, so I did my best to write one ^_^
