Bacon!

“Umma!” Soona exclaimed and she got hold of her mother’s shirt, face beaming like a sun’s dazzling ray.

Her umma chuckled and ruffled her hair. “How was your first day of school sweetie?”

“Great! I made lots of friends! But my new best friend is a boy called Bacon! He’s really nice, a lot of girls like him!” Soona grinned, jumping over the cracks on the pathway as they walked home.

“Ah really? Is his name Bacon?” Her mother questioned, confused.

“Yeah! I think… He said something along those lines at least! Bacon also has a friend called... um… I think it was Chan… I forgot, but everyone calls him Clown Channie cos he’s really funny!” Soona said and ran up to front door, waiting for her umma to unlock it. “Can we invite them over sometime?” She asked, looking up at her umma with twinkling doe eyes.

“Ah, arasso!” Her umma smiled and ushered her inside.

“Bacon! Bacon!” Soona ran to the boy waddling around the playground. He turned and smiled happily when he saw her and ran up to her.

“Soonie!” Bacon aka Baekhyun squealed and squished her into a hug.

“Annyeong Bacon! My umma said that you and Channie can come over and play sometime!”

“Really? Yay! Guess what? Umma gave me lollies so we can share!” Bacon grinned and held out a bag full of sweets and handed her a lollipop.

“Uwah! Thanks Bacon! Come on! Let’s go find Clown Channie!” Soona grinned and held onto Bacon’s hand with a lollipop stuck in .

“BACON YOU’RE HERE!” Soona screamed with joy and jumped down the stairs, almost falling every two steps. She ran over to the boy and ummas by the door.

“Soona, this is Baekhyun’s mother, Mrs. Byun.” Her umma explained. Soona released Bacon and grinned while bowing.

“Annyeong Mrs. Byun! Thank you for letting Bacon come over!” She said happily. Mrs. Byun smiled warmly and patted her head.

“Why don’t you two go and play? We’ll be in the kitchen.” Soona’s umma said. Soona nodded and dragged Baekhyun up to her room.

“I wish Channie was here…” Soona said suddenly, pouting. Bacon put an arm around her.

“Don’t worry, you have me!” He said, and she lightened up.

“Good point. Let’s play mums and dads!” She suggested, tugging out her doll.

“You have to eaaaaat Bacon!” Soona whined, trying to stuff a sprinkle covered cupcake into his mouth, only succeeding in smearing sprinkles and pink icing everywhere on his face.

“I’m not eating until you eat.” He replied stubbornly, keeping his mouth as open as little.

“But umma says I have to be polite and nice to guests! So you eat first!” Soona exclaimed, another cupcake in her hand.

Bacon shook his head. “My umma says I have to be a gentleman to girls.” He said and grabbed the cupcake from her hands, and tried to make her eat it, though most of the cake ended up in her hair. Soona pouted and chucked a cupcake at his face. It landed square on his nose.

“Yah! Soonieee! That hurt!” Bacon rubbed his nose and chucked a cupcake back at her. Soon, World War 3 was declared in Soona’s room, with cupcakes being catapulted everywhere.

Footsteps were heard coming up the stairs and Soona and Baekhyun froze from giggling and throwing. They stared at each other in horror until Soona quickly pushed him underneath the bed with her.

“Children, its- Oh my goodness! What on earth happened in here!? Soona!” Soona’s umma yelled in shock. Bacon glanced at Soona and she stared back.

“Oops…”

A year later… First day of school.

“Annyeong Bacon!” Soona smiled and held his hand as they walked hand-in-hand into the school. She didn’t notice it, but Baaekhyun’s face had flushed into a bright pink colour when she touched his hand.

“Hi Soonie.” He mumbled, head lowered. Soona finally realized his shyness.

“Yah Bacon! Why are you like that?” She pouted and squeezed his pink cheeks. “Are you feeling sick? I can make you better again!”

Baekhyun shook his head. “No… It’s not that. It’s because… I like someone.” He mumbled, looking into her twinkling eyes. Soona tilted her head.

“As a friend or do you mean like-like?” She asked, pulling him into the playground where the other kids were.

“Like-like.” Bacon murmured and shuffled his feet, kicking up puffs of dirt, smudging his freshly washed socks.

Soona pouted and played with the hem of her blue dress. “Aw. But I like-like you Bacon.” She said bluntly and looked at him with her doe eyes. Baekhyun looked at her, surprised.

“Really? Really really?” He asked, leaning closer to her slightly.

She nodded and frowned. “Yup. And I can prove it too.” Soona leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “There. I proved it.” She said, as if it was an everyday activity. Bacon smiled happily.

“Good. Because I like-like you too!” He exclaimed and gave her a kiss on her cheek. Soona grinned, but soon frowned again.

“Do you promise that you’ll stay with me? Pinky promise me Bacon.” She held out a hooked pinky, looking eagerly at Baekhyun. He hooked his pinky with hers and they pressed their thumbs together.

“I pinky promise and stamped it.” Bacon grinned and held her hand. Soona jumped up and down excitedly.

“Guess what Bacon? I brought some lollies! It’s our lucky day!” “Umma!” Soona exclaimed and she got hold of her mother’s shirt, face beaming like a sun’s dazzling ray.
