The cursed fate

Purely Fate

Seagulls calling from a distance away, a figure, fit perfectly into a pure white dress, traced along the red carpet laid on the sand. Eying the spectators lined up against seats, she made her way to her soon-to-be husband.

They’ve said their welcomes, they’ve made their vows. They were officially married. As their guests parted their ways, the couple remained on the beach; strolling along the ocean shore.

“Kang Yeun Ja-“The man beamed with delight

“Fits you well.” wrapping his arms around his wife.

“That’s true, as cheesy as it would sound, we’re like time and space; one can’t be of use without the other” she played a bright smile towards him and pulled his embrace closer.

“Kang Ho Jun—YOU!” a woman dressed in black interrupted the newly wedded couple.

“… Mrs Kim, I’ve told you already—“ Ho Jun was interrupt. The dark aura filled the atmosphere immediately.

“Ho Jun! I’ve told you many times, you are mine! NO ONE ELSE CAN HAVE YOU!” she pointed towards the bride

chanting; “just you wait, ‘Mrs Kang’ you will SUFFER- your children will be born lifeless!”

The husband watched his wife clench her stomach in fear; trembling.

“What right do you have to say that?!” Mr Kang burst towards the silhouette.

“She will die an unexpected death; and so, you would finally be mine, Ho Jun” the woman declared and turned to walk away; leaving the couple speechless, gripping onto one another.

~a year later~

“Push! Just once more!”

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”

-beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep-

[Kang Ho Jun’s POV]

My son! I wonder if he’s alright. This is so great! I thought to myself, whilst spinning on my office chair – too bad the old man won’t let me take a day off on such an important day... aah! but we could all be a family; eat together, go on trips together—

-ring ring, ring ring-

Huh? Who’s this? I read out the number to myself.. ‘023XXXXXXX’

“Hello?” I answered

“I’m calling from the ~~~~ Hospital, am I speaking to Mr Kang Ho Jun?” a woman requested me –

ah! The hospital! – I cleared my throat.

“y-yes, speaking” I stuttered

I couldn’t help smiling; the beginning of an entirely new life is just around the corner--

“I’m sorry to inform you of your loss... your wife has passed from child labour, also—“

“…” my smile faded into fear-

my heart sunk.

It's hot... it's hot... isn't it... - i thought to myself

my mind was spinning. i can't take it... there must be a misunderstanding...

“your son… we were informed that he didn’t make it through, we’re very sorry to – “ She continued

“...But ..this can’t be... Everything… was going fine…” I reasoned to myself in disbelief.

"IF THIS IS A JOKE PLEASE STOP. IT'S NOT FUNNY!" i bawled- spouting out anything to make the woman own up; saying its just a joke.. or something--

"I'm sorry, sir-- " The woman managed to squeeze in

My wife… gone… as well as my son.

I hung up on the woman; still questioning myself-

‘what is life without a family’, ‘what is happiness, when you can’t share it with anyone?’…

“WHY?! WHY ME OF ALL PEOPLE -- "

[midwife’s POV (in the hospital)]

Eh? I could have sworn I left the baby here… he couldn’t have gone anywhere…

I looked around the room and saw a stuffed... white tiger? whats that doing in here… ugh- its filthy! I guess I’ll have to throw this out… looks cute though… hmm too bad..

[end POV]

A small man with rather squinty eyes, hurried along the streets of Seoul

"I don't have enough money on me to buy my new-born grand daughter a present-" he huffed

"What am i supposed to do ?!" he scratched his half balding head, shrieking in public.

-clonk clonk-

"Eh? what was that-" He peered into the alley way and saw a fluffy stuffed animal sticking out from a garbage bag.

“Why would someone throw away such a beautiful toy?!” exaggerating his tears, with a pouty face.

He picked up the toy and mumbled to himself – “well then, this must be fate calling for you, my dear granddaughter~” placing his finger on the doll’s nose over enthusiastically “you, my friend, shall be my granddaughter’s companion!”, he skipped happily out of the alley way.

Of course, people were watching strangely, not only at the way the old man was skipping down the street, but also at the fact that he was holding a filthy stuffed animal.

~later that day~

"APPA! I'M HOME~~~" a woman called from the outside of the house.

-bang clonk boom-

out comes a shiny bladed head running from the back of the house to the front door

"WHERE'S MY GRANDDAUGHTER~~~~" he sung

"ahh Gi-Su is carrying her, she needs some rest; she's been crying ever since-- wait, thanks for the 'welcome home', dad!" she rolled her eyes

"no worries, no worries, my dear~ ehhe" he smiled

"76 years old, and still acting like a 7 year old" she ruffled her hair in disappointment.

Gi-Su walks in from the car with a crying baby in his arms "Hey father-in-law-- oops sorry, can't talk- "

he squeezes past the quarrelling father and daughter and heads for the stairs.

"AH! thats right~ Na Ra, look what I have for your daughter~" he pulls out the white tiger doll from his little apron hanging from his neck.

"UGH WHAT IS THAT--- SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN FISH ON MOULDY BREAD" the stench stung her eyes, causing her to cry

"I don't see what you mean~ Baekho smells fine~" questioning whilst sniffing it

"no- we must throw it-- or atleast clean it!" she snatched the tiger and drowned it with detergent and water; scrubbing and rinsing for a few hours

~2 Hours later~

"OHMYGOSH! FINALLY!" she screamed, wiping the sweat rolling down her face

"MY SWEET BAEKHOOOOOOO~" the old man came, snatched, and cuddled the baby tiger.

"Appa... no. just stop- lets go give it to Celia now, i think she'd like it"

as they approached the stairs they could only hear a screeching cry from the baby

"ughh, she hasnt stopped crying since an hour after i gave birth to her... we don't know how to stop it- we've tried everything..." she sighed

"AH! APPA! YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH HER! ITS LIKE A BABY TALKING TO ANOTHER BABY!" she smiled a cheeky comeback.

"that's right! i can communicate to the younglins alright!" he sarcastically stated

the old man approached the cradle and carried Celia

"shhh~ shh~ Kim Celia~ Hal-abeoji is he-" the baby's foot was in his mouth before he could finish his sentence; continuing to cry, the grandpa also joined in.

A boy looked into the room, rolling his eyes, and continuing to walk away.

"ah- Jonghyunnie~ do you want to see your little sister?" His mother called to him

he shook his head and said "annoying", walking away into his room.

Confused, his mother ruffled her hair and continued into the screeching cries of a baby and an old baby.

"APPA!" nothing stopped. ugh- she ran out of ideas...

all of a sudden the screeches of the baby came to a halt- the woman looked towards the baby in the cradle and saw her embrace, tightly around the doll.

"i knew it! it was fate!"

"appa?"

"Oh~ i just came accross this doll- things happen for a reason, right?" he smiled widely

"eh?"

~a few days later~

[news] man commits suicide- no family, body found in office building of ~~~~ corporation
