Two boys hold onto each other as the fire closes in on them.

The taller boy, his usual bubbly personality lost, whimpers.

The weary boy, tries to calm him down. His eyes are morose and with wisdom past his years.

“I don’t want to go! I’m scared.”

He presses a gentle kiss on his forehead, reassuring him.

“It’ll be okay.”

With those words, they bid each other goodbye, disappearing from one world and entering another.

Two boysbump into each other on the way to school.

One boy is tall and sprightly, the other boy is silent and wise looking.

His eyes are encased with glasses, hiding a deep sadness.

The boy apologizes, while the other boy is silent.

He has dropped a book from the collision. He gets down and picks it up.

He hands it to him, expressionless.

He looks directly into his eyes, but neither of them recognize each other.

The boy thanks him and they depart.

There’s somehow a familiar atmosphere, but both of them don’t acknowledge it.

Unknowingly and entirely by chance, they get on the same train.

Standing on opposite sides of the door, they don’t speak to each other.

They merely look out the double doors casually, waiting to get to school.

The train screeches as it prepares to move.

“The train on line 1 is now departing. Caution, the doors will now be closing.”
