Visionless

Eli's POV

Carrying Kevin back to the house, I put him down on his bed.

"Kevin.." I sighed. "I don't know what you did to deserve this." I said, moving his fringe from his face.

I smiled. I kissed his forehead and whispered, "I'll be back soon, Kev. I'm gonna bring Kiseop here. Don't worry."

I walked out of the house and drove off.

Kevin's POV

I woke up, feeling kinda dizzy. I rubbed my eyes and searched for my glasses and wore it.

"Eli?" No answer.

"Eli?" I stood up, touching the wall as I was walking to prevent myself from falling.

"Eli!"

I started feeling scared. I can't do this all by myself, I can't. I need Eli by my side.

I fished my phone out of my pocket and clicked speed dial #2 for Eli. I impatiently waited for him to answer as I heard the ringing sound.

"Hello?" It was Eli.

"Where did you go? Are you leaving me? Eli, you know I can't do it myself, right? Please, come back.." Obviously, I was scared. I never wanted to be left alone.

"Kev, of course not. Why would I?" He chuckled. "I'll be back soon, okay. Worry no more."

"Soon? How soon, Eli?"

"Just.. soon." He continued, "Are you feeling hungry? Would you like something to eat, hmm?"

"Uhh, no. I'll just wait for you to come back. Come back soon, okay? I'm waiting."

"If you say so. Bye, Kev.", He said as he hung up.

Eli's POV

"Soon? How soon, Eli?"

My heart stopped as I heard him ask. How soon? I don't know.

"Just.. soon." I continued, "Are you feeling hungry? Would you like something to eat, hmm?" I tried to change the subject.

"Uhh, no. I'll just wait for you to come back. Come back soon, okay? I'm waiting."

"If you say so. Bye, Kev.", I hung up on him.

I sighed. What about calling Kiseop?

I dialed his phone number and waited for him to answer.

"Hello?"

"Urgent. Meet me at the café near the park. 4:30PM, sharp." I then immediately ended the call. I don't need his answer, anyway.

I sat there quietly, waiting for him to arrive.

After a few minutes, the guy that I was waiting for finally arrived. He sat in front of me and asked, "Have you been with Kevin?"  Not in a cold way, just normal.

I slowly looked up to face him. "Lee Kiseop.."

"Have you?" He asked, raising his normal voice a bit higher than usual.

I nodded slowly.

He looked kinda surprise and pissed, I must say.

"Kiseop.. you need to know something.", He calmed at least a lil bit down, maybe because of my speaking tone.

I continued, "Kevin..he.."

"He what, Eli?" He said, getting kind of impatient.

Tears started forming in my eyes, threatening to fall.

"Kiseop, Kevin... h-he has an eye cancer.", I stuttered. Kiseop's jaw dropped, and I'm sure, his heart did, too.

I put my hands on his shoulders, staring straight into his eyes which are filled with mixed emotions.

"Listen, Kiseop. Kevin needs you. He might get blind today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next week, or whenever. We don't know when. You need to help him, Lee Kiseop, you need to help him!", I told him as I tightened my grip onto his shoulders, lightly shaking his body. He didn't respond as we just stared into each other's eyes.

"..where is he?", he finally blurted out.

"He's staying in your shared house." I said, trying to steady my voice but failed.

He then gave me a quick pat on my back and ran off, probably going to the said place. I face palmed myself.

Kevin's POV

Why is Eli taking so long?

I buried my head into my knees, hoping that he would arrive anytime soon. I couldn't wait, I'm getting scared.. and worried. Did anything bad happen to him..?

I laughed and shook my head. "He's Eli, why would something bad happen to him?" I let out a small chuckle.

I stood up and managed to walk over the door. Why is it getting a bit darker?

I walked outside with some trouble. "Eli!" I shouted, hoping that he could hear me.

"Where are you?" I said, half whispering.

You promised me that you'll come back soon, but where the heck are you?

I wiped my forming tears away and continued to walk yet failed. I tripped and fell down.

"I hate this!" I said as I threw my glasses away, getting mad. "Why can't I see clearly?!" I sobbed.

"I don't want to go blind yet. I still need to see Kiseop hyung.."

I grabbed my phone and called Eli hyung, but he wasn't answering. I then just decided to leave him a voicemail.

"Eli, where are you? I thought you'd come back soon? You promised me, right? Are you on your way now? Eli, you're not answering my call. I'm getting worried. Please come back."

I sighed. "Stupid Eli. Doesn't even know what a promise is."

I stayed in my place, not even bothering to make a move.

It's been an hour already and Eli still isn't home. I'm getting this feeling that something bad will happen any time now. I frowned.

I stood up and walked and walked to... I don't know. Nowhere?
"Eli!" I shouted my lungs out. "I'm getting this scary feeling, do you know that? I've been waiting for you for hours and hours, and you haven't arrived yet! You said you'd come back soon. Ugh, ouch.."

I tripped, feeling headache come. I tried standing up yet failed.. for the nth time.

I looked up to the sky, and.. why is it getting darker? I rubbed my eyes and closed it for a while.

I looked up again and, surprisingly, saw nothing but pure darkness.

"What's happening..?", I felt panic.

No. There is no way this is happening. I can still see a few minutes ago!

I rubbed and rubbed my eyes which are now getting teary, hoping that, somehow, what I feared the most isn't happening. It was useless.

"Eli!", I felt my cheeks get wet.

"I can't see! Eli!" I screamed loudly as I could, breathing heavily as I clutched on the snow surrounding me, feeling broken.

"What should I do?! I can't see anything! I still haven't seen Kiseop hyung!"

Kiseop's POV

I drove as fast as I could. How could Kevin not tell me anything about his condition? I wiped my tears. I'm almost there.

I can see Kevin from here, wait. What is he doing outside? I quickly parked and got out of my car. I ran to him as fast as I could.

Is he.. crying?

I hugged him as he clung onto me.

"Eli, what should I do?! I can't.. I can't see anymore! Eli, I still need to see Kiseop! How can I see him when I can't see anymore?! Eli!"

He.. he can't see anymore?

He held onto me tightly that I can barely breathe, but that doesn't matter anymore. Kevin needs me.

Walking back to 'our' apartment, I carried Kevin on my back.

"You know, Eli hyung, I feel really sad.."

He continued.

"..I feel really sad that I don't have the chance to see him anymore.."

He tightened his grip on me.

"Eli hyung, I guess, I'll be stuck with these eyes forever, huh?", He let out a small chuckle, just enough for me to hear. A sad one.

A tear finally fell down on my face. I don't know, Kevin. I don't know..

"Eli?" He said as he shifted on my back, trying to get a much more comfortable position.

I looked over my shoulder.

"I wanna meet him. Like, right now. Eli hyung, please contact him later, okay? I wanna meet him, I'll just pretend that I can still see. I won't make it look obvious, Eli. Please? Hmm?", He said, full of hope.

"Hmm." Was the only thing I could reply him. Of course I wouldn't let him find out that I ain't his 'Eli'.

"Kiseop, how's it going for you and Kevin?", Eli asked.

I sighed. "Eli.. he's sleeping in his room now.", "Actually.. he just lost his eyesight when I arrived.", I told him, not expecting to get any response since I know it probably shocked him.

"He thinks I'm you, Eli. I didn't utter a word to him since I don't want him to find out that it's me. He also told me that he wants to see me..", I continued.

"I'm gonna have to pretend to be you for some time, Eli.", I sighed as I told him.

"It's fine.", he said. "I'm going to leave him in your hands first, okay? Just send me a call when something happens. Keep me updated, too."

"Sure thing. Thanks.", I hung up.

I held Kevin on his shoulders as we walked towards the café in a comfortable silence. I guided him to a table of two and sat him gently.

"Thanks for setting this meeting up for me, Eli. I owe you one. ", he told me as he smiled to me sweetly. I patted him softly then pretended that I left and sat on another vacant seat. I sat there for a while to make it seem like the person he's waiting for hasn't arrived yet, which is me.

I stared at him as I sighed softly. I chuckled as I saw him practicing how to act in front of me. He still looks beautiful.  Nothing changed about him.. just his eyesight.

I then decided that the waiting I made him do is enough and that I should go and join him in his table. I took my coat on and walked towards him. I guess he felt my presence since he smiled brightly.

"Kiseop?", he beamed as he tried to act cool and normal.

"Hmm.", I hummed, just to let him know that I really am there. The waitress came right up towards our table and asked us what to order as she gave us our menus. I peeked over Kevin as I saw him biting his lip.

"I'll just have a chocolate cake. Thanks." I smiled as I told the waitress my order.

"U-uhmm y-yeah, I guess I'll just have that one, too..", Kevin stuttered. And with that, the waitress left.

"The weather's nice, don't you think?", he tried to start a conversation.

He smiled, looking down at me to make it look like as if he's observing me.

"You look good, Kiseop. As always."

I squinted my eyes at him and bald my fists in pain and madness from what I heard from him.
'Liar. You can't even see me.'

Kevin's POV

"What can I get you, sir?", said the waitress as she handed Kiseop and I our own menus.

Great. I gripped on my menu and pretended that I was choosing something to order as I bit on my lip nervously.

"I'll just have a chocolate cake. Thanks.", says Kiseop.

"U-uhmm y-yeah, I guess I'll just have that one, too..", I stuttered. I sighed, feeling relieved as I felt her walk away.

I coughed fakely as I looked outside, trying to get his attention.

"The weather's nice, don't you think?"

I then averted my gaze to Kiseop. I smiled as I tried to look like as if I was taking a good look at Kiseop's appearance.

"You look good, Kiseop. As always.", I said. That was a fact. Kiseop always looked good, no matter what condition he was in.

I sighed heavily. "It's been a while since we last met, you know.. I missed you. A lot.", I confessed as I looked down to his lap.

"Did you worry about me?", I chuckled softly. "If you did, then you should stop being, so! Eli takes care of me really well. He makes sure that I eat on time and never skip any meal. He makes sure that I don't die of boredom. He takes me out to the malls and treats me in any restaurant I'd choose. He's a real nice man.."

Why am I telling him all of this?

"Kiseop.. you know I still love you, right?", I suddenly blurted out of nowhere.

"I really miss being with you. Everything doesn't feel the same anymore.. even Eli can't replace you. I.. it hurts, Kiseop. Because I know that we can never be the same anymore. There's.. there's something that stops us from doing so. I can't tell you what it is because--"

"Kevin, stop.", he interrupted me. "You're not making any sense anymore. I think I should be going now. Here, pay for our orders.", he put some money in front of me as he quickly exited the café.

I don't know why, but tears started forming in my eyes and falling down on my pale face. Does he not love me anymore? Or was I too obvious about my situation? Is he getting bored of me? Or does he have a girlfriend now? I sobbed quietly to myself as the last question popped out of my mind. "He probably does..", I wiped my tears off my face. "At least I got to hear his voice..."

Kiseop's POV

I ran out of the café and sat outside, crying my eyes out. I don't know why, but hearing him tell me all those things and pretending that he can still see hurts me. A lot. I felt like a ton of bullets started coming right straight through my heart. "I'm sorry Kevin..", I sobbed lightly with my body shaking.

After quite some time of pouring my feeling out, I though that I should send Kevin home now. I took my coat off and hung it loosely on my arm and went back inside the café. His eyes are puffy red now..

I sighed and patted him on his shoulder, as if telling him that we have to go home now. He stood up slowly as I put both my hands on his shoulders to guide him on his way.

"Eli..", he whispered Eli's name. "It wasn't that successful, but I thought it was worth my time..", he continued.

"At least I got to hear his voice.. I really wanted to see him though.", he sighed softly as he rested his head on my shoulder as we continued walking to my car.

'I'm so sorry, Kevin..'
