Three Ficlets from Prompts

Only One for Me

A/N: I had a prompt post here and later did one here. I took some of the drabbles and expanded them. Here are three of them and I might have more coming up!

1) Prompt: "JeTi passing by an ice rink, reminiscing past while looking at young couples skating hand in hand"
2) Prompt: "Jeti, looking at each other"
3) Prompt: "Jeti where one is getting a tattoo and the other is the tattoo artist"

Melting Ice

Tiffany nudges Jessica as they walk past a skating rink. “Do you remember doing that?”

“That jump? I don’t think I could ever do that. I could barely do a waltz jump.”

“No.” Tiffany laughs and gestures towards the young couple skating hand in hand. “That.”

“Oh. Yeah, I remember you being scared to fall.” Jessica grins, taking Tiffany’s hand.

Tiffany feels like she falls all over again. She clears . “I was not scared!” Jessica raises an eyebrow. “I was just…intimidated.”

Jessica laughs. “Isn’t that what you said about meeting Soojung?”

“She was intimidating though,” Tiffany says. “Still is to other people, I bet. Plus, you’re one to talk. You’ve scared off most of her boyfriends.”

“If they’re that easy to scare off, they’re not worth dating.”

“What a protective unnie you are,” Tiffany says with a grin.

“Why do you say that like the Big Bad Wolf talking to Little Red Riding Hood?”

Tiffany bursts into laughter. “Are you saying I’m preying on you?” She leers. “My, my, what big…melons you have.” Her eyes dip down from Jessica’s face and then flit back up. She’s pleased to see Jessica’s cheeks have turned pink.

Jessica seems to have been rendered momentarily speechless. Tiffany does a victorious triple axel in her head. Actually, she can’t do that even mentally. Maybe a double.

“Don’t make me push you onto the ice,” Jessica finally says.

Tiffany pouts. “I think you’re taking the term ‘cold shoulder’ a bit too far.”

Jessica gives her a chilly glare, the patented Jung specialty, but Tiffany developed immunity a long time ago. She just gives a sunny smile back, and the ice in Jessica’s expression melts.

Tiffany is the one to take Jessica’s hand this time, and neither of them lets go all the way home.

Original

“Why are you staring at me?” Jessica asks. “Is there something on my face?”

“What if I said yes, some beauty?” Tiffany says with a grin.

“Then I’d tell you to get some originality.”

Tiffany makes a serious thinking face. “Okay, what about… I just like looking at you?”

Jessica blushes. “That’s better.”

“Okay, your turn,” Tiffany says expectantly.

Jessica stares at her blankly. “My turn to do what?”

“Tell me why you were staring at me.”

“I wasn’t—”

“Well, you do it a lot and I didn’t ask you the other times.”

“I do not stare at you a lot,” Jessica starts indignantly, but then Tiffany just raises an eyebrow at her and she deflates. “Well, you-you’re a messy eater and you get sauce on your face all the time. And you have a really stubborn bit of hair that always likes to stick out from your head. And sometimes when you sleep, you stop breathing and I worry that you’re going to suffocate.”

“Okay, it sounds like you’ve been staring at me a lot. Even when I’m sleeping. Should I be concerned?”

“Concerned?” Jessica splutters. “What, are you saying I’m a stalker or something?”

“I don’t know, I think you just said it.”

“Tiffany, we live together. I don’t need to stalk you.”

“That just sounded extremely concerning.”

Jessica sighs. “This is payback for me saying you’re not original, isn’t it?”

Tiffany grins. “Do you take it back?”

Jessica narrows her eyes. “Your level of pettiness is certainly original.”

Tiffany pouts. “I think you forgot an r in ‘pettiness.’”

Jessica rolls her eyes, but she can’t help a slight smile. “That was pretty clever, I have to say.”

“And original?” Tiffany asks, like a puppy sniffing after a treat.

“Okay, fine. You’re very original. You’re so original that you could be on that vampire show you like to watch. Happy?”

Tiffany bursts into laughter at that. “Very,” she tells Jessica, and pulls her into a kiss.

Your Name

“And what do you want to get one of?” the pretty tattoo artist asks.

“Your number,” Tiffany blurts out. Right after she says it, she wishes a hole would open in the ground and swallow her.

The tattoo artist blinks. “I’m not sure that would look good. But I can give it to you.”

“Really?” Tiffany squeaks in disbelief.

She laughs. “Sure. You’re cute.”

This “cute” sounds more like a “you’re adorable, want a lollipop?” than a “you’re pretty, here’s my number,” but Tiffany will take it.

“Can I tell you something then?” she says sheepishly. “And please don’t judge me too hard for it.”

“Trust me, after some of the designs I’ve been asked to tattoo people with and the places I’ve been asked to tattoo them, I have a high judgment tolerance.”

“I don’t really want to get a tattoo.” Tiffany is speaking faster now, as if getting the words out more quickly will make them more palatable. “I just wanted to ask for your number.”

The tattoo artist doesn’t say anything and just looks at Tiffany in an inscrutable way. She doesn’t seem angry, at least, but she doesn’t seem pleased either.

“I’m sorry for wasting your time!” Tiffany says quickly. “I’ll totally pay you a consultation fee or anything like that. And I’m not just saying this because I think you’re pretty, it’s the decent thing to do. Even if you don’t want to give me your number anymore.”

“You think I’m pretty?”

“Well, I have eyes.” Tiffany doesn’t have a great brain-to-mouth filter, but it really seems like it’s gone on vacation.

The tattoo artist laughs. “That’s good to know. You were looking at some of the more…unique designs in the book.”

Tiffany blushes. “I just flipped to a random page. I was—distracted.”

“I distract you, huh?”

“So much, and I don’t even know your name.”

“What if I said I’ll tell you if you let me tattoo it on you?” Tiffany stares at her, and she breaks into a playful smile. “Just kidding. In fact, I advise against getting tattoos of romantic partners.”

“Does that mean there’s a chance of us becoming…?” Tiffany can’t even say the words, blushing even hotter than before.

“Well, I don’t know about that, but why don’t you give me your number and I’ll see how I feel about calling it by the end of my shift?”

“Okay,” Tiffany says. She’ll happily take that.

The tattoo artist takes out a pen and scribbles down Tiffany’s number. “And I don’t know your name either.”

“I’m Tiffany.”

“Tiffany,” she says thoughtfully, like she’s imagining a design to go with that. “You know, you could have just asked for my Instagram. In a ‘hey, I’d like to see more of your tattoos’ way. My name’s on that.”

“Oh.” Tiffany hadn’t thought of that. It’s pretty obvious now that she does.

“You really are cute,” she chuckles.

“Thank you?”

“You’re welcome.” She glances at the clock and gives an apologetic smile. “Unfortunately, I have to cut this short. I have an appointment in a few minutes.”

“Oh, sorry!” Tiffany practically jumps out of her chair. “I’ll get out of your way.”

“You don’t have to rush. Watch your step.” Tiffany blushes again as she remembers how she tripped when she came in. “And hey, Tiffany.”

She turns around from where she’s reached the door.

“My Instagram username is on the designs book.”

Tiffany feels like face-palming. She can’t believe she didn’t notice that. But then again, she was…distracted. Her distraction smiles and says, “See you around,” and she manages a “You too” in a mercifully normal voice.

Right after walking out of the store, she opens Instagram and types in the handle she saw in the design book.

Jessica Jung, Clareau Tattoos.

Tiffany smiles.
