“Where did you go?” he asked demandingly. He was sitting on the armchair expressionlessly, his arms crossed in an impatient manner.

Nana shuffled her feet nervously towards the wooden dining table, silently placing the loaded bags of grocery on the table. Her head remained down throughout the whole process, her beautiful, long hair luminous under the glistening sunlight that crept in through the half opened curtains.

“I asked you where you went,” he repeated in his calm yet frightening voice. His locked his menacing gaze upon the anxious girl, waiting impatiently for her answer.

The girl’s petite mouth was prepared to give him his answer, however, as if a sudden curse was cast upon her, words failed to flow out .

“Are you mute?” he asked as he stood up, his tall build towering over her. He pushed her head mockingly and crossed his arms; she could sense his building anger...

Nana bit her lips anxiously, afraid of the man.

“I…” she began, fiddling with her fingers nervously. “I went out… to buy groceries… for tonight’s meal…” she stuttered in a quiet and incoherent mumble.

“What? Am I some sort of hero with super-hearing powers?” he asked rhetorically.

“I went out,” she repeated in a louder voice. “To buy groceries,” she looked up at him, his authority made her feel small despite her rather tall height. He took small steps towards her, his overpowering authority increasing at every step he took closer to her.

The usual silence filled the house, only the soft rustling of the leaves outside and the sweet melody of the bird’s singing could be heard.

The silence before a storm.

“Nana?” he called, demanding for her attention.

"Her Infatuated Love... His Undying Love..."
