A Pikachu and his Shinx

Description

When I was offered a two-year trip to Korea by my highschool in a transfer student program due to my high grades, I was ecstatic. I had always wanted to visit Korea, see how they would treat me knowing I was a "foreigner" and was fluent in English, make several overseas friends and live life in a Korean Drama. I was expecting everyone to treat me nicely, for celebrities to walk the streets.

Then, reality struck me as soon as I began to driver from the moving truck stared openly at me, murmured something in an unintellible tone, and drove off, leaving me with my several boxes.

This wasn't America. Nobody would treat me the same if they knew I was a foreigner. I would have no friends if they saw me in that light.

And there were no such things as Korean Dramas in real life, only bitter reality.

Before I met him by pure chance, I was literally left in Korea with only my fifteen boxes filled with my childhood nostalgia and my bubbly, optimistic friend.

I really, really regret signing up for this.

Foreword

My heart was pounding, the buttons underneath my thumbs moist with sweat.

Nostalgic music filled my ears.

Neko's health was more than halfway depleted, making her strut waver as she tackled her bright yellow opponent. My eyes made several takes by glancing to and fro between Neko's Level 12 above her health bar and the other trainer's Level 17 Pikachu. I softly swore under my breath when the Pikachu used Iron tail, sending Neko's body flying across the grassy field and her health to a dangerous red zone. Damnit, I was in over my head and about to lose at the start of the game.

HP: 7/44

What will NEKO do?

Feeling discouraged, I hit the TACKLE option once more, knowing that all her other moves were electric at the level she was at, with THUNDERWAVE and SHOCK, and also FLASH, which was out of PP.

I set the DS down gently on the dark grey, circular table in a small cafe that I had spied months after moving to Korea. Admittedly, I had always wanted to visit and try it out, but with all the drama and the near-publicity I've been experiencing, I just really never had the chance. A cute old couple owned the restaraunt, all smiles and giggles and chuckles, and their smiles seemed to reach their ears when they spotted me hobbling in this winter afternoon. Very kind people, I noted with a smile, as I watched the man hurry to grab his little notebook and ask me what interested me on the menu. Not wanting to make them wait, I ordered the first pastry on the board, and they both nodded and left me to find a table.

I sipped my little smoothie while I pondered. It was nice to visit a place without feeling judgemental and burning eyes on my back. And the cafe did a wonderful job at setting a comfortable atmosphere and pacifying my nerves. Sighing, I faced my DS with dread.

But alas, a miracle! My eyes lit up, seeing that Pikachu had used SCRATCH and that Neko still stood on her two feet, but with an alarming amount of 2/44 in health. Hope filled my chest, seeing that the Pikachu was also in the red zone. I hit TACKLE once more, praying that it would make Pikachu faint, or if it didn't, that the Pikachu would have to skip a turn for its paralysis. However, I nearly cried when I saw it still standing with a determined scowl on its face and charging for another IRON TAIL.

"Hey..."

I froze. I tore my gaze off the bright, moving screen to stare back into burning, chocolate eyes and a familiar face. He definitely didn't look happy, still puffing and shivering from the outside weather, his pale cheeks flushed with a light red. I tried not to notice how attractice he looked in a grey sweater, with the white fur on his hood accentuating his facial features. Instead, I dropped my gaze to his pockets, where his fist gripped tightly onto the fabric.

I couldn't help but tremble when the reality sit in. He found me, he found me, no, he found me...

I heard the Pikachu hit Neko once more with his IRON TAIL, and I heard Neko's wrangled, death-cry and the GAME OVER music playing beneath me, but it was all blurred out as he began to fire daggers at me with his eyes.

"H-how..." I shook. "How did you find me...?"
