Kyuhyun couldn’t believe that Siwon, little Wonnie, his first friend was standing in front of him. His brain stopped working as the tears started falling down his face. All the memories from his childhood flashed back into his mind and mostly the ones where he stood by the window waiting for Siwon to come for days, then the next few years, but it never happened. He was hurt and scared and all he could do at that moment was run away. He dashed from the kitchen, put on his shoes and ran out of the house.

Siwon on the other side was shocked. He had been hoping to meet Kyuhyun again. He already went back to Busan, to Kyuhyun’s home a couple of years back, but the neighbors said they moved out.

Siwon had never forgotten about Kyuhyun, but he couldn’t go back earlier. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to, because he did! He was waiting for that next year to come because Kyuhyun had promised to see him face to face. He lived for that promise for the whole year but then when Christmas approached, his sister and her family moved to Seoul and so he had no reason to go back to Busan.

Siwon was only seventeen, and no matter how much he begged his father, the latter was busy with his company and so they never had the chance to travel. His sister was the only reason he got to meet Kyuhyun, and since she was no longer his neighbor, Siwon couldn’t go see his friend.

Siwon dropped to his knees from the surprise. His feet couldn’t hold his weight anymore and he sank into the floor. His mind couldn’t process what just happened yet. He couldn’t believe that he found Kyunnie again.

“Kyunnie… Kyunnie… It’s you”

Finally after a few minutes, Siwon came back to his senses and rushed out of the house to look for Kyuhyun. He stormed out of the building, luckily there was only one way and that was where Siwon started running.

Fortunately, the weather was back to normal, and the storm seemed to lie down, so Kyuhyun wasn’t in any kind of danger. Nevertheless, Siwon kept on running around the neighborhood, letting his sight wander over the people passing him by even though Kyuhyun was not that hard to miss.

After several minutes of searching, Siwon found him. Kyuhyun was sitting on a bench in a children park a few blocks away from Siwon’s house.

“Here you are” Siwon exclaimed as he approached Kyuhyun. He tried to put a smile on his face, even though his heart was breaking at the view of a crying Kyuhyun.

The younger was startled to see Siwon in front of him because he didn’t know he was going to follow him. His sight was blurry by the tears, so he wiped them with the back of his hands as he shifted his gaze away from Siwon.

“Talk to me”

Siwon pleaded before taking a seat on the bench next to Kyuhyun. However, the latter didn’t seem to utter a single word. He just kept his focus on the children playing on the swing and tried to suppress his new tears.

“Just go” Kyuhyun finally managed to mutter a couple of minutes later. However, Siwon wasn’t planning on leaving him. He put his hands over Kyuhyun’s arms and turned him to face him.

“I’m not going anywhere” Siwon admitted with a stern voice, looking straight into Kyuhyun’s eyes, causing the latter to start sobbing again as his tears couldn’t stay locked anymore.

“Y-you didn’t keep y-your promise”

Siwon was heartbroken by the view in front of him. He couldn’t take the little boy, who was always cheerfully talking and smiling at him through the glass window, crying in front of him. Siwon couldn’t help the pang in his heart over knowing that he was the reason behind those tears.

“I’m sorry I didn’t go back that year. I couldn’t!”

“I waited for you by the window every night” Kyuhyun stated as he tried to free himself but Siwon’s hands only gripped tighter.

“I’m so sorry Kyunnie, I swear I couldn’t. My sister moved out”

“I don’t care! Just leave me alone!” Kyuhyun finally could detach himself and abruptly stand up to leave. However, before he could walk away, Siwon stood up and stopped him by the wrist.

“Please Kyunnie, please…”

Kyuhyun gritted his teeth, blocking his tears and taking a deep breath before looking into Siwon’s eyes.

“I was finally ready to go out and see you but you never showed up. I hate every single minute I spent looking out that window, I hate how I waited for you year after year… I-I hate you Wonnie!”

There was anger in Kyuhyun’s orbs that Siwon felt a a stab of pain in his heart. The boy spoke harshly, causing Siwon to immediately loosen his grip on the younger’s wrist, while his brain was trying to process what he just heard.

Kyunnie hates me? H-He hates me? Oh god… not you Kyunnie… I can’t have you hating me, please…

Tears found their way down Siwon’s cheeks as he felt a lump stuck in his throat. Kyuhyun’s words were still replaying in his head and when he finally composed himself, the boy was nowhere around.

When Siwon got back to his house, he found Donghae and Hyukjae pacing in the living room worried about Kyuhyun since they hadn’t found him in the room. Once they saw him coming in, they both started throwing all kind of questions at him but Siwon was so dazed and hurt that he didn’t have the will to answer. He just walked by them and sank into the couch.

Hyukjae and Donghae were soon by his side, asking what happened and when Siwon finally could talk, he told them the whole story which they were very surprised to hear.

“So hyung, you and Kyuhyun were friends?”

“Siwon, is he the little boy you keep remembering all these years?”

“B-But he hates me now”

Siwon almost chocked on his own words as he fought the new tears that were threatening to fall.

Kyuhyun spent the next three days at home. He didn’t go to college because he had some things to think about. He spent his days in his room, replaying his meeting with Siwon over and over again.

Wonnie, why did you have to come back now? Do you have any idea how much I missed you? You were the first real friend I’ve ever had and I really liked talking to you. If only I came out of the house when you asked me to, would it have changed things? Would you have come back the next year?

Wonnie, you look as handsome as ever. My dimpled Wonnie… have you ever missed me through the years?

Siwon on the other hand, had spent those three days letting out of his frustration at the gym. The image of Kyuhyun crying was stuck in his mind, and the words Kyuhyun said made the guilt pine up in his heart.

Do you really hate me Kyunnie? The way you said it was like a knife stabbing me in the heart. I did go back but I was too late. What was I supposed to do? I never stopped thinking about you Kyunnie… How can I make you see that?

On the fourth day, Kyuhyun and Donghae had a lecture together. They were both sitting by the window that overlooked the large sport field, and intently focusing on the lesson. However, after a half an hour into class, there was some sound coming from the glass. When Kyuhyun got disturbed and turned to see who it was, he was shocked to see Siwon throwing rocks on the window, clearly to get his attention. Kyuhyun’s hands started sweating and his eyes glued on Siwon. The latter smiled widely when he saw him looking at him.

Once Siwon pulled out what he was hiding behind his back, Kyuhyun’s eyes instantly popped out when he caught on the little white board in the older's hands.

Donghae who felt Kyuhyun tensing up turned to ask what was wrong, but the younger didn’t seem to hear him since his eyes and mind were on Siwon. Donghae then trailed where Kyuhyun was looking and gasped when he caught a sight of Siwon.

‘I’m sorry, Kyunnie’ Siwon wrote down before raising his board, and Kyuhyun’s eyes started to get watery.

‘I miss you, Kyunnie’ Siwon wrote next, and Kyuhyun’s stomach started having butterflies in its pit.

‘I love you, Kyunnie’ Siwon wrote, and Kyuhyun’s heart was fluttering.

Suddenly, Kyuhyun’s mind started rewinding all the memories of him and Siwon chatting through the glass and his breathing started to accelerate. His hands turned into fists and he clutched one on his chest. The boy was having some kind of a panic attack and luckily Donghae was there to tend to him. He asked permission from their professor to go to the nurse room, and Kyuhyun wrapped his arm around his shoulder to support his body as they exited the classroom.

Just as they stepped into the hall, Kyuhyun stopped walking and looked at Donghae with his teary eyes.

“Take me to Wonnie”

Kyuhyun’s voice was trembling and it was obvious he was still having hard time breathing. However, the glinting look in his orbs made Donghae nod and start walking them to where Siwon was.

When they were outside, Donghae let go of Kyuhyun and stepped back because he knew his friend and Siwon needed to talk.

The older was nervous as hell. He got anxious when he saw Kyuhyun leaving the classroom, but now that he was in front of him, he sighed in relief and just stared at the younger.

Kyuhyun’s gaze was on the floor. He didn’t dare to look at Siwon. His breathing was steady again but his heartbeat was quivering. He didn’t seem to notice the tears that were heavily streaming down his cheeks, but apparently Siwon did, because he dropped his board and marker on the floor, and in a blink of an eye, was standing a foot away from him.

“K-Kyunnie… Please don’t cry”

Siwon pleaded and Kyuhyun muttered something under his breath that Siwon couldn’t catch.

“What’s that?”

Kyuhyun slowly raised his head and let his gaze meet Siwon’s.

“I don’t want to talk to you through the glass anymore”

Siwon’s eyes grew bigger at the sudden request and he couldn’t help but smile at the pouting Kyuhyun.

“C-can I touch you, Kyunnie?” Siwon asked sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head, and to his luck, Kyuhyun slightly nodded with a little blush on his wet cheeks.

Siwon swallowed hard before lifting his hands and cupping Kyuhyun face, wiping away the tears with his thumbs. He closed his eyes for a second, enjoying the soft skin under his fingertips, before opening them again and whispering “I’ve always wanted to touch you”

The shade of pink deepened in Kyuhyun’s cheeks, and he shifted his gaze away from Siwon to the floor. As he did, his sight landed on Siwon's marker and his eyes bulged out at the realization.

“Y-you did go back!”

Siwon looked at him confused, and with narrowed eyes, trailed where Kyuhyun was looking at, leading to a wide smile to curve his lips when he realized what the younger was talking about.

“I did. But I was late”

“H-how…W-when…” Kyuhyun asked incoherently as a lot of questions were running through his mind at the moment.

“Two years ago, but I’ve been told you had moved away. I asked around but no one seemed to know your new address. So, when I was standing next to our window, I found it”

Four years ago, as Kyuhyun’s family was moving to another house in Busan, the little guy thought of leaving something in case Siwon would come back one day.

Despite the fact that Siwon broke his promise to him, Kyuhyun had never actually lost hope. That was why, before he moved away, he left his special marker by a small creek in their window, hoping if Siwon had ever come back he would find it.

“Idiot” Kyuhyun muttered leaving Siwon dumbfounded.

“What?”

“Idiot!” Kyuhyun freed his face from Siwon and walked to pick the marker. He studied it for a second before glaring at Siwon who was taking aback by it all, thinking of what he might done wrong.

“You’re an idiot!”

“Yah Kyunnie! Stop calling me that!” Siwon snapped back gently, because who could ever raise his voice at little Kyunnie?

Kyuhyun stared at Siwon’s pout for a second before bursting into laughter, and yet again leaving Siwon awestruck, but mostly astonished because it was the first time he had ever heard Kyuhyun’s laugh.

“You’re an idiot, because I left you my home address in here”

“WHAT?” Siwon was definitely surprised. He snatched the marker from Kyuhyun’s hand and kept rolling it from one side to the other reading what was writing on it again, and trying to spot an address between all the doodles.

“Here” Kyuhyun showed him when he didn’t seem to find it.

There was indeed a home address scribbled there. However, it was in tiny characters and a messy handwriting. Siwon needed to narrow his eyes to actually see it.

“Are you kidding me? Kyunnie! Is your handwriting still bad?”

 “Hyung!” Kyuhyun pouted and slapped Siwon’s arms as he whined, causing the latter’s eyes to bulge out as his mouth was slightly agape.

“You never called me that”

“That’s because we never talked” Kyuhyun pointed out before he turned his gaze to the floor and sighed deeply.

“What’s with that sigh?”

“When you didn’t come back, I thought you didn’t like me anymore”

Siwon’s heart did a hurtful leap upon hearing what Kyuhyun had been thinking all these years. He never meant for him to feel that way and he was devastated himself when he finally got the chance to go back to see him, but found out the younger had moved out.

“Give me your hand” Siwon ordered and Kyuhyun looked at him puzzled, but he gave his hand nevertheless.

Siwon took a deep breath, calming down the feeling of Kyuhyun’s slender fingers in his, before raising the hand and pressing it against his chest, right above his heart.

“Do you feel it?”

Kyuhyun gasped at the feeling of Siwon’s heart beating erratically inside its ribcage. He couldn’t help but ask “Why is it beating like this?”

“Because of you” Siwon simply asked and Kyuhyun tried to withdraw his hand, but Siwon kept it in place.

“B-Because of m-me? Why?” Kyuhyun innocently asked and Siwon had to marvel at the younger’s flushing cheeks for a moment before answering.

“It’s beating for you… because I like you”

“You like me as a fr-“

“No. I love you”

Kyuhyun was cut off as Siwon confessed his love, leaving him astounded with several questions in mind. However, those questions suddenly disappeared when Siwon spoke again.

“Please say something”

Siwon was scared of Kyuhyun’s reaction. The boy just fell silent after his confession and Siwon was dying to know what he was thinking about in that little head of his.

Siwon had never stopped thinking about Kyuhyun. He would always come to Hyukjae and tell him about little Kyunnie that he met through the glass. He had hoped to meet him again someday and he had promised himself that when he did, he would tell him exactly how he felt, how his heart felt.

Siwon was brought back from his thoughts when Kyuhyun held his free hand and lifted it to press it on his chest as well. There was a deep blush on Kyuhyun’s cheeks when Siwon’s jaw dropped, but he didn’t avert his gaze.

“Why does it beat like this?” Siwon could guess it had something to do with him, but he wanted to hear it from Kyuhyun himself, which to his relief, he did just after the younger looked deeply into his orbs.

“Because of you… Because I love you too”

That was the happiest moment in Siwon’s life. He let his forehead rest on Kyuhyun’s and closed his eyes in content. He had always imagined Kyuhyun telling him those words, but it never felt like that. Siwon would be lying if he said he hadn’t fallen in love with Kyuhyun a long time ago, but he was still young and didn’t quite understand what love was until he had to lose him.

Kyuhyun on the other hand was extremely happy as well. He could feel the beating under his palm accelerating and he knew right away, that it felt right. He realized that the reason he was all worked up because of Siwon never coming back to see him, was because he had already fallen for the boy.

“Kyunnie…” Siwon whispered against Kyuhyun’s lips.

“Yes?”

“I will never leave you again. I pr-“

“Don’t” Kyuhyun shook his head stopping Siwon from finishing his sentence and Siwon pulled away, frowning, as he looked into Kyuhyun’s eyes

“I’m scared of promises”

Siwon knew he was the reason behind what Kyuhyun just said, and so he pursed his lips in determination, before stating in a stern tone “I’ll make you trust me again”

It led to a sincere smile on Kyuhyun’s lips “I would love that”

Two Weeks Later

Siwon and Kyuhyun decided on going out for their first date. They were both busy with their exams, and so they didn’t get the chance yet. They talked, of course, when they would meet on campus between their cramped up schedules. However, it never felt enough for neither of them.

That was why, Siwon had planned the perfect first date for them. He picked Kyuhyun up from his house and insisted on keeping where they were going as a surprise, and since the trip was almost a four hour drive, Kyuhyun had already fallen asleep which Siwon thought it was perfect for his surprise.

When the younger woke up, he let his eyes adjust to the daylight as he slowly tried to figure out where they were. He shifted his gaze to the man beside him and smiled weakly at him.

“Where are we?” Kyuhyun asked curiously, especially when he caught on Siwon smiling widely at him with those dimples he loved so much.

“Look by yourself” He motioned with his head for Kyuhyun to turn around and when the latter did, his eyes popped out when he spotted his oldest house, where he first met Siwon.

Kyuhyun was at loss of words. His sight glued on his former house for several seconds until his car door was opened, and Siwon stretched his hand for him to take it.

“Surprised?”

Siwon asked satisfied with the look on his boyfriend’s face, and the latter nodded his head eagerly as he let a wide grin paint his face.

They walked hand in hand towards their window and Kyuhyun’s heart was beating with each step he took. That house meant so much to him and he never thought he would come back again, with Siwon nonetheless.

“Wonnie... Thank you” Kyuhyun whispered as he wrapped his arms tightly around Siwon’s waist.

“You’re welcome baby”

Siwon circled his arms over Kyuhyun’s back as well, before pressing a light kiss on his temple. The younger buried his face deep into Siwon’s chest, hiding his rising blush.

They stood there for a quite amount of time, reminiscing about how they met, and the nights they spent talking to each other with their little white boards, and not until a few minutes later, that Siwon spoke.

“Kyunnie?”

“Yes?” The younger pulled away and looked into Siwon’s eyes, turning confused at the nervous look in those dark orbs.

“C-can I kiss you?” Siwon asked sheepishly as his gaze kept focused on Kyuhyun’s cheeks and how they reddened, before letting his eyes land on the younger’s plump lips that he had been wanting to taste for a long time.

“You should stop asking for my permission to do things”

Kyuhyun honestly stated, leading a blush to paint Siwon’s cheeks and his as well. The older shifted his gaze away and fumbled with his hands in his pocket, not really sure what he should do next.

“I-I just… well, I wanted to…”

Siwon started stuttering, but, fortunately, he was cut off by his boyfriend who pulled him down from his collar, and tip-toed just enough to capture Siwon’s upper lip between his own.

Siwon was surprised by the sudden act. However, as Kyuhyun’s lips began tenderly moving against his, his eyes fluttered close and he started enjoying the younger’s taste that started to linger in his mouth.

They kissed softly at first, before Siwon slipped his tongue inside Kyuhyun’s mouth, letting it roam and dance around, everything in his way, and letting the sweet taste of his boyfriend create butterflies in his stomach, and thus leave his body asking for more.

Kyuhyun’s arms had wrapped around Siwon’s neck when the kiss deepened, as they let their instinct lead them since it was actually their first kiss.

When their lungs had run out of air, they slowly pulled away and let their foreheads rest on each other, noses nuzzling and breaths mixing together. Siwon’s arms were possessively wrapped around the younger’s waist, and he wasn’t intending on letting go of him.

“Kyunnie… about your… winter fear” Siwon hesitated but he had to ask. He had avoided the topic ever since they got together, but he needed to say something to Kyuhyun.

“Wonnie… I…”

“Let me speak first, please”

Kyuhyun raised his head a bit and looked into Siwon’s orbs that were showing nothing but love and sincerity.

“I know you’re scared of the mere chance of you getting sick again and I understand. That’s why, I don’t mind waiting. I want you to know that I’ll stick around however long it takes until you’re not scared anymore. And when you do, I’ll be there by your side”

A lone tear escaped Siwon’s eye. He knew his boyfriend was scared, and he wasn’t going to let it be an obstacle. He loved Kyuhyun the way he was, and if the latter couldn’t go out on the winter, he would wait until he was ready to overcome his fear.

Kyuhyun untangled one hand from Siwon’s neck, and lowered it to wipe away the tear stain. He then let his face lean down as he closed the gap between them once again, in a less passionate kiss.

“I love you Wonnie. I promise I’ll do my best to overcome my fear”

Siwon smiled and kissed Kyuhyun’s palm. He gazed at his stunning boyfriend and engulfed him in his arms.

“I love you too Kyunnie”

Kyuhyun could feel something dripping on his face. He detached himself from Siwon’s arms and let his hands caress the white substances on his hair and cheeks. He then looked dumbfounded at Siwon who had a wide smile plastered on his face.

“Look up” Siwon said and Kyuhyun instantly raised his head above and gasped as he was welcomed by many other white drops.

“Snowflakes?” Kyuhyun asked surprised, as he let his eyes wander over the sky and admired the view.

Siwon was determined on planning the perfect date for them, and when he remembered how Kyuhyun always wished to walk under the snow, he had borrowed an artificial snow machine. Until Kyuhyun could do it for real, Siwon wanted to at least let him feel the snow on his skin.

“Well not from the sky itself, but I hope it will do... for now”

Kyuhyun beamed at Siwon before he launched himself on him, hugging him tightly and whispering words of thanks and love.

“You said your wish is to walk under the snow, right?”

“I can’t believe you did this! Wonnie, I always wanted to feel snow falling on my face!”

Kyuhyun was still under the surprise spell. He stretched his hands into the air to let the flakes fall on them, and he literally squealed when they melted on his palms.

The man in front of him was just happily watching him and kind of flattered that he was the reason behind that innocent smile and that amazing laugh that he adored to hear.

“Anything for you Kyunnie”

After Kyuhyun had his share of fun with the snow, he faced Siwon and circled his arms around his neck again, as he whispered against his lips…

“You want to know what my other wish was?”

Kyuhyun titled his head to the side cutely that Siwon couldn’t resist but peck him shortly on the lips.

“What is?”

“You”

“Me?” Siwon looked at him bewildered and it was Kyuhyun’s turn to peck his lips.

“Yes. You are my Christmas wish. Thank you for talking to me that day”

Siwon beamed at Kyuhyun’s words and once again wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him closer.

“It was the best decision I’ve ever made”

“No more glass window?”

“No more glass window”

They kissed again under the snow, lovingly and passionately, embracing the past they shared, and the future they were about to have...

Because destiny has a weird way of acting out.
