When did this journey start? Before Sora's time.

It all began with the X blade. With Roxas. With Vanitas.

Master Xehanort, finally realizing the usefulness of Vanitas' strength, has set out a new side goal, a goal to create more beings of darkness.

Complete utter darkness under his full control.

These goals resulted in the new race of beings called Shadows. Deadly and dangerous, these are beings brought out from the deepest darkest corners of the heart. He has put them under his control, and is beginning to learn how to utilize them to their full potential.

As Master Xehanort prepares for the Keyblade War, so do the 7 lights, training and preparing for a battle of a lifetime. Unknown to them however, that the Keyblade War was just one part of the prophecy, and that soon, more pieces of the puzzle will begin to fall into place...

....Scattered in 7 different worlds, the 7 Guardians live their lives, their true part in this epic battle between good and evil still unknown.

The Guardians.

7 Guardians for the 7 Lights. These people exist for the sole reason of protecting their individual light. They represent each color in the light spectrum.

The 7 Lights. As told in the prophecies, the 7 Lights are the Chosen Keyblade weilders meant to take part of the final battle between The 13 Hearts of Darkness.

The 13 Hearts of Darkness

A new organization under Master Xehanort. They are meant to start the Keyblade War. Not much is known about them.

Organization XIII

A group of Nobodies, originally a group of 13, now a group of 8. Betrayed by Xehanort, they want their revenge, and are waiting for the day they can finally become whole again. 

Shadows

These creatures are beings of complete darkness. Unlike Nobodies and Heartless, these beings can co-exist with their counterparts (i.e. Ventus and Vanitas). Where as a heartless is born through a person's heart falling into complete utter darkness, Shadows are physical human beings, formed by dark emotions extracted from the very light of Keyblade wielders. They are supposed to take on the form of human beings, but since this a difficult process to under go, there have been more than a few cases where these Shadows have not fully developed, turning into beings of faceless, jet black mutations.
