Once upon a time, there was a doll that only needed his master's love to develop a soul. And his name was DongHae, meaning 'East Sea', for his eyes were like beautiful lakes. You could get lost while just staring into them. He had a cute little button nose that others were jealous of, it was a perfect little nose, with a set of pouty lips that only framed his face even better. He was the epitome of perfection, if not, perfection itself. They say that imperfection is perfection in itself and that is true. One flaw that he had was that he could turn into a human, but he needed his master’s love in order to do so.

But because he was so unique, he was feared by the people around him, and soon became very lonely. He was passed on from one to another, his masters loved him at first, but soon came to fear him once he turned. In his doll form he would sit still and mope about, thinking ‘Why was I even created? I am a love doll, am I not supposed to be loved? Everyone thinks of me as a beautiful masterpiece before I turned, but now, everyone thinks that I’m a terrifying creature.’ For a few months, he was abandoned by the road, no one dared to claim him, for they knew what would happen. He just sat there. Still. Emotionless. He couldn’t cry even if he wanted to, for he wasn’t loved.

Then one day, he met someone who would accept all of him for who he was, a master who gave him many new experiences and emotions. His name was HyukJae, but all his friends called him Eunhyuk. He was obsessed with making clothes for dolls, but he too had heard of the legend of the ‘Love Doll’. But unlike others, he wasn’t afraid. When Donghae turned for the very first time, all he did was to give him a simple greeting. His eyes didn’t show fear, but understanding ,concern and a little bit of…love? His friends warned him about getting the doll they said that it would harm him. But he shrugged them off as them being too paranoid.

After many trails, the two discovered their mutual love for one another, and swore to remain together forever. But one of his friends was scared. Scared that Eunhyuk had already fallen for the doll, for whoever falls first, falls hard. He snuck into Eunhyuk’s house while he wasn’t home and used a bat to strike Donghae in the face, whilst he was still a doll. His face shattered into millions of pieces. Everyone thought he was gone, forever. When Eunhyuk returned, he was inconsolable. He even quit school to learn how to repair Donghae. When there’s a will, there’s a way, that was his motto.

When donghae finally woke up from his slumber, he found that he was in his doll form, sitting nicely in a chair. He thought sadly ‘Oh…I guess this means I have a new master…’. He heard footsteps coming and quickly arranged his position. ‘Ah…’A familiar voice soothingly said, ‘You moved.’ When Donghae turned to face his new master, he got a shock. It was Hyukjae! But, he looked so…ragged, and worn out. Seeing his doll’s adorable confused face, he continued,‘It has been 13 years ever since the incident. All these while I’ve been trying to restore you but to no avail, finally…’ he couldn’t continue as tears came rolling down his cheeks. Donghae wiped them away, and said ‘so now, will we be together…forever?’ While still sobbing, HyukJae whispered lovingly while embracing the little Donghae, ‘forever.’

Many long years later, the master’s life was coming to an end…and even then, the doll remained at his side. The sad thing was, even though Donghae could change into a human, he still couldn’t grow old.

…And when his master finally passed away, the doll never moved again.

They must have gone to Heaven together.
