If You Want

Description

All Victoria wanted was to selflessly give people happiness, either by being a baker or a singer, but due to traumatic past experiences, she was led to becoming a baker in a small little bakery in Seoul.

She'd been content with her simple, fulfilling life, finding healing within the domain of her bakery, until one night, a strange, sorrowful man knocked on her door.

His eyes had held an inexplicable remorse within their depths.

It was past closing time, but his heartfelt request had been one she couldn't refuse;

"Can you make Thai food?"

And her answer had been easy-

"If You Want."

And that had only been the beginning.

Can two broken people help each other find the healing they so desperately crave?

Foreword

Prologue

It'd been a successful day.

I smiled to myself as I wiped the table's clean, admiring the glossiness that came after the wipe of my pink cloth. The wood beneath seemed to glow really, but I was sure it wasn't just because it was clean - it was because these wooden tables were used to experience happiness.

Well, at least I hope people experienced happiness when they sat at these tables and ate the food I'd so caringly prepared.

After all, my motto was;

If people want to eat Korean food, then they can eat Korean food and if people want to eat Chinese food, then they can eat Chinese food.

I smiled to myself as I finally finished cleaning the last table in my little bakery cafe. I then stood for a moment, stretching my back and my arms in an attempt to get out the aches of a long day's work.

But it was a fulfilled day's work.

I took a moment to glance around my surroundings and appreciate the beauty of my little cafe. It was small, with only space for about seven tables with three chairs each. They were decorated in shades of pale pink and blue, the cushions on the chairs alternating between the colours, and finished off with the wooden tables and chairs. I'd chosen a variety of heart shaped decorations for the tables too - such as the white placemats.

The entrance to the cafe was a clear glass door, with a single sign on it;

Victoria's Bakery.

My eyes then found the glass counter that, during the day time, housed my various breads and cakes. The cash register was beside it for people who simply wanted take-out instead of sitting and eating.

The kitchen, my personal favourite, was behind the counter and I smiled upon seeing it.

The best part about the entire cafe was that it was mine.

Originally, it'd been part of my two storey apartment, but when I'd first moved to Korea three years ago, I'd decided to change the bottom storey of my apartment into the bakery and I'd never looked back since.

Also, it was a nice extra to be-able to live so close to work. And it was nice to have the staircase in the kitchen as well, as then it wasn't in the cafe part. Plus, it was easy to get to the kitchen that way.

A soft sigh left my lips as I checked the heart-shaped wall clock.

My eyes widened.

It was nearly 2am.

I hadn't realized how late it was.

I silently groaned as I quickly began to untie my apron and pulled it off without much effort.

I had to go to bed soon, after all, the cafe opened at 7:30am and I needed to get up at 6am in order to start preparing the bread and cakes for the day ahead.

And I was just about to initiate my plan when I heard a knock at the glass door.

I frowned, who would be looking for me at this time of the night? This area wasn't even busy at this time of the night. I began to panic slightly. What if it was a thief? Or even worse, a murderer-

Another knock.

Steeling myself, I slowly spun on my heel to face the door.

In the dim street lighting, a hunched figure stood by my door.

Tentatively, I walked closer.

The figure was male, tall and well-built.

That prompted me to walk even closer, now only a metre away from the door.

He was handsome, with doe brown eyes, milky skin and regal features. He looked like the descendant of a prince, or royalty at least.

My eyes then found his.

Emotion flashed through his eyes and I could easily make it out - it was regret. My heart lurched at the sorrowful man behind the glass and I bit the inside of my lip. I knew my will was wavering.

My hands were delicately unlocking the door before I could summon the courage to stop them.

A breath of cold air streamed into my cafe and I saw now that the man was shivering. I ushered him inside without hesitation, ignoring all warning signs that the man could still be dangerous.

He stepped inside quietly and I shut the door, keeping the wind chill out. I then turned to face him, rubbing my hands along my arms in order to warm them up.

He really was handsome now that I could view him in proper light - definitely from royalty somewhere along the line.

However, that remorse still haunted his eyes.

Thus, I felt compelled to ask, "How may I help you?"

This arose a bittersweet smile from him.

"Can you make Thai food?"

I simply smiled.

"If you want."

- - how was that? I hope you all are intrigued and eagerly awaiting my next update! What is Nichkhun so remorseful about? And Vic's traumatic experience that brought her to Korea?

Stay tuned!
