To The Moon
Everything shakes, and Kyungsoo and Kai hold onto each other as Baekhyun quickly checks the scanner. It flashes red. Everything flashes red.
Baekhyun realises something is definitely wrong.
“Hang on…”
As quickly as it begins, it stops. Baekhyun smiles.
“It’s alright.”
The four watch on as the countdown begins.

The ers in the lower part of the spacecraft explode, and shock waves run through the immediate area.
Sparks light up, and Baekhyun sees fire burning from below the craft.
It’s working!
Up, up, up! The craft ascends with a powerful roar, and everyone cheers. It’s a successful lift off.
Once the craft reaches the upper stratosphere, the carrier rocket that the shuttle was launched off pulls away from the shuttle, and the shuttle rolls into a steady speed at it ascends further into space.
Chanyeol remembers Luhan wish to befriend a lighthouse. He hopes that in this set of memories, Luhan will get his wish too.
Luhan is up in the spacecraft with Sehun, of course, as are Jongdae and Minseok.
The red light flashes through again, startling Baekhyun. He looks down at his laptop and sighs.
Sehun’s not at the moon yet, this is too soon.
“It’s time,” Baekhyun whispers.
“You mean…?”
“Yeah.”
Baekhyun taps a button on the screen, and the four are back in the bedroom.
“What happened?” Kyungsoo asks with concern.
“We missed it.” Chanyeol says, tears in his eyes.
“We missed it…?”
The words sink in, and the room is silent.
Sehun was truly happy, it has always been his wish to make it to the moon. Jongdae and Minseok climb into the cockpit before him, and Luhan trails behind.
They’re all finally in their proper spacesuits, all finally putting all of their years of training to rest in this one moment.
“Cabin checks?” Minseok announces.
“Right on it,” Sehun responds.
He flicks a button or two on the wall next to him and clicks in his belt.
“Ready!” he nods.
“Ready too!” Jongdae repeats, strapping himself in with a smile.
Sehun watches out of the corner of his eye as Luhan does the same, and he wishes Luhan’s nimble fingers would be touching things other than those buttons.
He thinks that things might have been different with Luhan, different to now at least. He thinks of a lighthouse, and a stuffed teddy bear atop a hill.
But he quickly shakes the thoughts away.
They can’t be real.
“Ready Luhan?” Minseok calls.
“Yes.”
“OK, ers engaged, countdown in 3… 2… 1!”
There is a large explosion, and Sehun thinks of the worst. This is the trickiest part of the mission, aside from landing on the other end. Anything could happen.
“ers at max!” Jongdae exclaims.
The craft goes from a weak shake to a quick, fast, agitated jolts of motion, rocking the whole shuttle back and forth.
Minseok looks out the window at the ground below.
“We have lift-off!”
Sehun holds onto the edges of his seat as the craft seems to palpitate faster and stronger as it ascends. He knows not to look out the window because the sun will blind him.
Once the sun is on the opposite side of the craft, he sneaks a glance. They’re actually doing it! They’re actually flying.
There’s a rattle, and Sehun knows that this is just the carrier rocket beginning its descent. This is all part of the mission; things are going much smoother than he could have hoped.
“Look Sehun, the moon!” Jongdae exclaims, pointing.
Sehun waits for the angle of the craft to change slightly, and the moon slowly comes into view.
“We’re actually doing it, for real!” he says excitedly.
He looks at Luhan and blushes. It’s now or never.
He removes his right hand from its death grip on the armrest, wiping it on his suit to get rid of any anxious sweat. He leans across the craft and holds it out in front of Luhan.
Luhan gives him a smile, and takes his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I…”
