Description
In certain parts of Seoul like Nonhyundong and Chungdamdong alone, there are an estimated 5,000 trainees hoping for a chance to debut. Last year in 2016, over 150 idol groups debuted and half of them didn’t even have the chance to promote on television.
TV broadcast companies have been taking part in this game in recent years. Mnet Superstar K, MBC Star Audition and SBS K-pop Star are amongst the more popular programmes on survival singing competitions.
Now MBC has announced a new reality programme that will focus on all aspects of being a “triple threat” idol: singing, entertaining, and acting. Auditions for So You Wanna be an Idol? will take place in 9 different countries. 10 contestants will pack their bags and come to Seoul where they will be filmed constantly from auditions, to practices, performances and even in their personal dorm lives.
