Their Deal
What Is Love?
“Give me a chance. Just once Jessica. I only need one.” The man is almost pleading. He is desperate. He doesn’t know what else he should do other than begging like this.
Jessica looks around warily. She notices how everyone starts paying attention to them and that is the last thing she wants to happen. They are right in front of the university library and this place is not really a perfect place to talk about something like this. But Luhan somehow manages to stop her from running away this time.
“Lu—”
“I won’t bother you anymore after that. I promise.”
“I can’t.” She answers almost immediately, like she doesn’t need time to think. “I don’t want to. I’ve told you a hundred times Luhan, I don’t like you.”
“But maybe you will, if we try. If you open your heart for me.” He looks at her with those big sad eyes, as though begging her to love him. The pitiful sight wrenches her heart.
She understands him. Really, she does.
There’s nothing more saddening than unrequited love.
She knows precisely how painful it is when the person you love pushes you away.
When you fall in love with the person who doesn’t care about you.
“Luhan, we can’t suddenly start a relationship just because we want to try and end it when it doesn’t work out. A relationship doesn’t work like that.”
“Then how does it work?” He asks with quite intensity.
She opens to answer but he beats her.
“You’ve never been in relationship to know how it works.” He states matter-of-factly.
“I know, but I have a good reason for that.”
“You mean a reason like you fall in love with your childhood friend?”
She is a bit taken aback but quickly recovered, “how did you..”
“I know you long enough, I have eyes, I can see clearly how you look at him.”
She doesn’t respond but slightly opens.
He mentally slaps himself. “Damn, now I look like a stalker.” He mutters loud enough for her to hear.
“You don’t look like a stalker. You are a stalker.” She emphasizes. “You have been stalking me since forever, but I never thought you would go that.. far.”
“Look, I’m not that creepy as you might think I am.” He explains, a little bit too defensive.
She raises her eyebrows, as if saying ‘no I don’t believe you at all’.
“okay,” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “how about this, let’s be friends?”
“I told you—”
“I don’t want to be your friend and this will be the last time we talk to each other.” He says it all in a nonchalant way.
She blinks.
“That’s what you wanted to say, right? You’ve told me that for like a million times Jessica.” He throws his hands in the air.
“Well, if you already get it, please excuse me.”
She shakes her head, turns around and walks away.
“Hey Jessica! What’s so great about that poker face guy?! I’m way cuter!” He shouts behind her.
She groans in embarrassment as she quickens her pace. People around them start giggling and whispering. This is so humiliating. She facepalms.
He is angrily stomping his foot and decides to let her go today. But as he watches her walks away from him, he realizes he can’t let her go. At least not until he makes sure he has completely no chance with her.
