Minho was not even 16 when their father died in a large motorway crash. 

After that their umma left, finding it too hard to be around both sons who looked so much like their father.

Minseok had just turned 18 and he knew he couldn't let Minho fall into the system, so he gave up on University for the time being, scholarship aside, and tapped into his funds, scraping the rent for a cheap apartment and still being able to support Minho's schooling.
