Foreword
She sat near the window, absent-mindedly watching the late afternoon sunlight as it refracted on the glass panes. Her stare was fixed on the fine dust motes floating in the air, turned golden by the light, though she wasn’t really seeing them.
He will come.
But she had already been waiting for quite some time, and the hour that he was supposed to be there had already passed.
He’s just late. But he will come.
She looked at her wristwatch. She realized that almost an hour has passed since the time he was supposed to appear.
He will come if he loves me.
She waited for some more, refusing to believe he would easily give them up. With every tick of the clock, she could feel a pin pricking at her heart.
In the hallway, the grandfather clock chimed, indicating the time. It’s been two hours since the time he would have arrived.
She bit her lower lip to keep it from trembling as tears threatened to spill from her eyes. He will come if he loves her, and he would have come two hours ago, so it only means one thing.
She slowly got up from the chair.
It’s time.
She picked up her suitcase which was on the floor beside her chair. It’s time for her to let go.
