Foreword
The rain had been pouring down all day, and it didn’t let up as Oh Sehun sped out of his driveway in his BMW 3 series coupe. The air was chilly; the kind of romantic temperature that would have young couples flocking to Ambrosia in droves with sweet laughter and chapped lips.
Maintaining his one-handed grip on the wheel, Sehun slid his other arm into his double-ed white jacket, cursing as he caught sight of the time on his watch. Thankfully, he lived fairly close to work, so it didn’t take long for him to swing his beamer into an empty parking space and leap out; bag in hand.
“You’re late,” Bora, Sehun’s sous chef and second-in-command, commented, amused, as Sehun rushed to key the door and let his team in.
“I am aware, thank you Bora,” Sehun replied, flicking the light switch to the kitchens and moving to his office as he yelled over his shoulder; “everyone to your prepping stations and working double-time, I have a new dish to introduce before opening.”
Quick and concise, Sehun’s team nodded and rushed to the sinks to wash their hands before shrugging into their jackets and setting to work.
The door clicked shut behind Bora as she slid into Sehun’s office, watching him as he rifled through his top drawer in search of something.
“What’s the new dish?” Bora inquired, leaning back against the door and folding her arms.
“I want to try a modern take on Lobster Newburg but we’re switching sherry for a dry rice wine and I want some sautéed mushrooms tossed through a light vinegar with maybe paprika or perhaps white pepper- that one is up to you,” he paused, having found what he was searching for in his desk. “When are the new employees due?”
“They should be here within a half hour,” Bora replied, eyes trained on the sheet of paper Sehun was now holding, “What’s that?”
“New recipe! Been working on it for weeks!”
And then Sehun was gone; an impish smile gracing his features like the stain of blackberry wine.
